Advice please on Clearblue weeks digital tests

Hi ladies,

I should be 5 weeks and 5 days pregnant today according to my LMP which started on 16/04. So this would make me nearly 6 weeks as I should be 6 weeks on Sunday of this week.

I have taken a CB digital test this morning and I still am only getting 2-3 on the test and I had 2-3 on there last Saturday so nearly a week ago!

I am so worried and concerned and I do not have any pregnancy symptoms at all either other than being slightly tired at some points in the day. No sore boobs, no nausea, nothing!

I am worried that my HCG and pregnancy is not progressing as it should be as I would have expected to see a 3+ on my test this morning.

Does anybody have any advice or have experienced anything like this please and what was the outcome if so?

Thanks xx

Some people never get a 3+ on a clear blue digital. To be honest I don’t think they should be sold! They cause such anxiety.
I didn’t get a 3+ and I have a healthy 11 month old. X

Hi @GrowBabyGrow thank you for your post.

I have read that a lot of people do not get to 3+ on the tests. The reason why I am concerned is that I have already been pregnant once this year (unfortunately ended in MMC) but last time the tests did progress as I would have expected them to and I did see a 3+ at this stage and I also felt much more pregnant.

I know this is a new pregnancy and things will be different but I am just struggling to stay positive at the moment! x

I am the same, 5w2days was expecting 3+ but still on 2-3 this morning. HCG bloods came back at 490 was expecting more. Have over a week to wait for our early 6 week scan. It’s going to be the slowest week ever!

Hi @Hedgehugs,

Fingers crossed for us both that it's good news. I have a scan booked for next Wednesday I would be around 6 and a half weeks. I'm going to stop testing now and just see what my scan brings.

Is this a normal range for your hcg bloods? I haven't had any bloods taken x

Do you know exactly when you ovulated? Could it be you ovulated a bit later this time?

I don’t think these tests are very accurate and they cause a lot of worry for people.

Hi,

No I don't know exactly when I ovulated. To be honest I did not even think I had ovulated that month but I obviously did. It was my first cycle after a miscarriage in March and I was tracking ovulation but I didn't see any surges so I gave up.

So I don't know when it happened but I would have thought even if it was a little later I would still be getting 3+ by now even if I ovulated more towards the end of the month?

OP posts:
allgoodthings84 · 26/05/2023 12:50

@lmp69 the weeks tests are based on when conception happens so just after ovulation. If you ovulated later it could be why it’s not quite got to 3+ yet. All sorts of things can delay ovulation by a week or even more. Hopefully it’s just this 😊 either way they aren’t that accurate so I wouldn’t worry. Wait a few more days and try again

allgoodthings84 · 26/05/2023 12:52

I do understand your worry though as I had 2 early losses myself before this pregnancy which is why I didn’t take a digital weeks until I knew I was definitely 3+ weeks past ovulation this time (I knew when I ovulated).

@allgoodthings84

Thank you, I hate to admit this because I have been serial testing with CB digitals (only because I am so anxious due to what happened last time) and it isn't only this test I have been concerned about as they have been so up and down, my tests have been as below;

1-2 18/05 (the day I found out I was pregnant)
2-3 20/05
1-2 22/05
2-3 23/05
1-2 24/05
2-3 26/05

So although I am worried about not being on 3+ yet I am also worried as to why they have been so up and down and going back down to 1-2 more than once.

I just have a bad gut feeling about it because last time even though it ended in MC my tests did progress as I would expect them to so very different to this time.

Probably not the experience you want to hear, but not progressing to 3+ weeks at the right time was the precursor to me having a miscarriage. I knew it wasn't right, and within a fortnight I had lost the baby. In my successful pregnancies, I always progressed on schedule. I caveat this with saying that I knew each time when I ovulated (using OPKs), so could be pretty accurate in my expectations. If you're not sure of your dates, there's a chance it might be ok, although the flipping between dates on the tests would also worry me.

I only share this because when I was experiencing this, I did want all honest advice. But I will keep my fingers crossed that it's a happy ending for you!

Hi,

Thank you so much for sharing this with me, I totally am open to honest experiences even if they are not positive.

I am the same, I feel like I have a gut feeling and I just know! I feel so unlucky to feel like I could be experiencing this twice in a row which is my worst nightmare but I am expecting the worst.

I have not experienced the dates on the tests being so up and down before either and this was my initial panic! Also as I said a complete lack of pregnancy symptoms. Did you experience this too?

OP posts:
sexnotgenders · 26/05/2023 14:18

Yes, weaker symptoms was also a red flag for me - I did have some, but in hindsight they just weren't anywhere near as strong as when I had successful pregnancies. I didn't flip up and down on dates, so moved from 'pregnant' to '1-2 weeks' on schedule, and stayed there. It just took 2 weeks longer than it should to get the all important 3+. My hormones did eventually get high enough to trigger it, but clearly baby was growing slow for dates and shortly after I did miscarry. As I said, I really do hope you have a better outcome, especially given this follows a miscarriage already - that's rough. If it helps I'm now 35 weeks pregnant so whilst the miscarriage was hard, I did manage to conceive afterwards (on cycle number 2)

CR7 · 26/05/2023 14:37

@lmp69 have you considered paying for a private hcg blood test? I did it twice (currently 7weeks pregnant) and the numbers were reassuring. The tests were £49 each and quite quick for me to get the results. You will need two though to see if your numbers are going up xx

Hi @CR7 no I haven't considered this yet, another lady had mentioned these too on here though so I guess it could be a good idea.

How far apart did you have them? Was it same day results? I am not sure what kind of places around me would offer these would it be like a private clinic?

Were you having the same issue with the tests?xx

OP posts:
CR7 · 26/05/2023 14:52

@lmp69 no issue with the tests just had no symptoms (still don't) so looked online and booked myself two tests. Need to be a minimum of 48 hours apart as you need to see a clear rise in the numbers x

There's even one you can do at home and post off. The money was well worth it for the piece of mind. Results came back the next day but i didn't do a home test. I went to a clinic.

If you do one and the numbers come back seriously low then perhaps no point in a second one xx

thecapitalsunited · 26/05/2023 15:04

There’s such a variation in HCG levels at this stage that these tests aren’t really that accurate. And that’s before you get into how concentrated your pee is affecting how much HCG is in any given sample. Even if you take the test with first morning urine every time if you drank loads the night before or got up in the night to pee then you aren’t even comparing eggs to eggs.

My advice is to stop testing. I know that it’s hard though - I was so knocked down to get a positive in the first place that I couldn’t help but keep testing to reassure myself. And when I didn’t get that 3+ weeks I when I expected I felt like maybe the universe was playing a prank on me with the whole thing. Luckily that was my last test so I didn’t buy any more and waited the few weeks until an early scan. If I had more tests I’ve no doubt I would have driven myself crazy with worry.

Good luck.

Totally agree with you.

The blood tests are conclusive though and would give you peace of mind if you need it xx

I have just had a look online and there are a couple around my area I could do. One is going into a clinic and the other one is the one you do from home and post it off for the results.

I do have an early scan booked in however for next Wednesday so although this feels like a lifetime away I think I might just hold on and wait for this as I am hoping they will be able to tell if the pregnancy is viable from this xx

@thecapitalsunited I know, it really isn't good for my mental health, I know I need to stop and also I have purchased that many of them hoping to see them increase that I have also spent a small fortune on them 😞

It is just so hard to stop myself, I am just deep down hoping to see that 3+ and that is why I keep testing but in my heart of hearts I feel like I know what is happening.

Do you mind me asking if yours was a successful pregnancy? I have a scan booked for next week at 6w3d, I am unsure if they will even be able to see anything but the earliest I could have had it was 6 weeks so I thought I would wait a couple of extra days just in case, but I couldn't wait any longer than this.

@lmp69 It was a successful pregnancy and she’s now 16 months old.

I know exactly what you mean about not being able to stop yourself and it’s so easy to just dole out the just stop advice but when you want something so desperately and it’s something as uncertain as pregnancy your instinct is to search out all the information you can find. It would be so much better if we could find out more at an earlier stage. I managed to hold out until 7w+6 for a scan but only because I couldn’t get an earlier date.
