@PinkPlantCase thanks so much for that, didn’t even realize a baby wearing coat was a thing but I’ll deffo order one now! You’ve made me feel more sane. I’d prefer to buy a pram in spring when I’ll be using it more.

I have actually already bought a carrier as my local shop had the Ergobaby ones for 40% off this morning, I haven’t received it yet, but hopefully I’ll like it. If not I’ll try out a sling!

Sb86 · 25/07/2023 08:54

@Psqueak87 I've bought an ergobaby one too, my friend recommended it. I'm going to buy a fabric sling for babywearing around the house and little strolls but I'll be using the carrier on treks. Quite a few companies do the coats and hoodies for babywearing, there's some really nice ones.

24 week appointment tomorrow! Anyone had theirs yet? What do they do? Will they listen to babies heartbeat?

When I had my midwife app at 17 weeks , I was offered to listen in to baby heartbeat & was told at my 24 week app , they measure the belly and do check baby heartbeat as your further along hope it goes well xx

Thack · 25/07/2023 21:58

No appointments til 28 on second baby, but from what I remember it was as said before - doppler, belly measurement, urine, blood pressure.

I recall discussing birth plan at 34 weeks as I was anxious to get it done, I think it'd have been 36 weeks otherwise. A bit early for that side but MW might prompt you to start thinking about it over the next few appointments.

GreenAventurine · 26/07/2023 08:27

Exciting! Im hoping I’ll be able to discuss birth plan soon, I want a second C-section and want it confirmed.
I’ll be seeing my consultant in a few weeks so hope it’ll be done then.
Does everyone get offered the gestational diabetes test? I’m sure my midwife has mentioned that too.

BabyBabyBaby123 · 26/07/2023 08:59

I’m sure I was told by my midwife at 16 weeks to make an appointment for 26 weeks … so I have, but can’t seem to find any reference to a 26 week appointment anywhere, so I wonder if I have misheard or misunderstood what she meant.
Well I have the appointment and will be going to it, this is my 3rd baby, so not sure if it will just replace the 28 week appointment that is listed on the nhs website if I have got it wrong 🙈
It would be much easier if appointments were made the way they were with my first DD, where before I left my appointment the midwife wrote the next appointment down in my notes. This time (and last time) I have to battle through my GP’s phone line and make an appointment with the receptionist, when they are made available - which seems to only be 4 weeks in advance.

JD90 · 26/07/2023 09:05

@GreenAventurine you get it offered it as routine if you're considered 'at risk' of developing it. So if you've had it in a previous pregnancy, are over a certain age or bmi, had a 'large' baby, have a sibling or parent with diabetes, had weight loss surgery or from specific ethnic backgrounds. There is probably more criteria too but those are what nhs website state. Your midwife may also suggest it if you develop symptoms at any point. I've got mine in a few weeks time as my mum is type 1. Was absolutely fine in my first pregnancy though so 🤞 same again, that's really the last thing I want on top of all the other complications I seem to be accruing.

Also if you've have a c section before I am pretty sure your consultant will agree straight off, so hopefully it will be a simple conversation for you.

PinkPlantCase · 26/07/2023 09:14

@BabyBabyBaby123 I think different trust/teams might do appointments slightly differently. After 16 weeks had 1 at 22 weeks which I think was a week early because I was going on holiday and my next one is booked for 28 weeks. This is second baby, low risk pregnancy.

They didn’t measure the bump at 22 weeks but they said they will next time. They also said that at 28 weeks they’ll do a blood test to check iron levels and to cross check blood type again.

I do find it quite silly how many times they check blood type. Firstly it won’t have changed from my last pregnancy with the same trust 2 years ago and they’re still checking it twice in this pregnancy. Just seems like a waste of resources.

LilmissCa · 26/07/2023 13:10

I have my 24wk appt a week later at 25wks cuz I'm away, this is with midwives.
Im shared care as my platelets have been low in previous pregnancies. So my 28wk appt is with consultant & have a scan then & also GTT test (father is type 2). I had GTT test at 9wks too as my blood sugar was borderline, not overly impressed I have to get it again lol.

Where's everyone feeling kicks ? All mines are very low, know it's early still :-)

GreenAventurine · 26/07/2023 13:32

Just got back from 24 week app. They tested urine, checked bp and just generally had a chat. They also took blood samples (my request) and they also let us have a listen to babies heartbeat.

Baby girls kicks have started getting a little higher up now, my partner felt her kick just below my belly button also 😊
When they listened to her heartbeat the Doppler a little lower down to the right of my belly button. I’m surprised at how high she is getting 😂

My kick varies from very low down to where my belly button is lol , but his always low down , I only feel strong kicks when laying on my side as I have an anterior placenta. But I felt my kicks from 21 weeks and they are becoming stronger which is lovely to see now , are you feeling strong kicks or faint kicks xx

PinkPlantCase · 26/07/2023 14:08

@LilmissCa you can decline the second GTT if you want to.

Tbf all it would have really showed at 9 weeks was if you had type 2 diabetes already as insulin resistance in pregnancy only really kicks once the placenta is really up and running.

LilmissCa · 26/07/2023 15:10

@LeeanneD11 pretty much the exact same as you.. anterior placenta & stronger kicks on my side, definitely getting more stronger which is good!

@PinkPlantCase I didn't even think of declining it but just incase something shows I'll ride it out. I already changed the day of it as I've plans the 1st date they gave me from last tests I be totally wiped out after it!

It's so lovely to feel , I have a very good pattern with mine , I get woken up in the morning between 6am-10am it's so nice and then in the evening I get them kicks around 5-8pm, xx

Shaker21 · 26/07/2023 16:53

Hi all,

I have been lurking and reading all the posts now for a few months but haven't messaged on here yet.

I am 22 weeks + 5 days today and due 24th November. We found out we are having a boy and also another with an anterior placenta...seems to be a lot of them on here!

I have been lucky to be feeling movement/kicks for maybe 3 weeks which has been lovely, they are definitely getting more frequent and stronger as the days go on. It is nice that I do tend to also feel them throughout the day when I am sat at my desk and although they say they don't get into a routine with movements until 28 weeks I definitely can tell there is movement more around certain times of the day than others such as lunch/dinner and bed time, don't ever feel much first thing in the morning when I get up around 6am.

I am struggling at the moment with feeling tired....not the kind of first trimester exhausted tiredness I did have but now a up 3-4 times a night needing a wee and not able to get back to sleep kind of tiredness which seems to be killing me later in the week as I work 7.30am - 5pm Monday - Friday so come end of the week I am struggling!

I have also been rather achy today, like a stretching/growing uncomfortable kind of feeling and definitely feel bigger in my bump the past few days than I did before. I am plus size so has been nice that the bump has been showing more and more the past few weeks and doesn't just look like its extra weight I am carrying!

LilmissCa · 26/07/2023 20:29

@LeeanneD11 fab you have a good routine with the kicks. My bedtime kicks are pretty routine but nothing else yet.

@Shaker21 welcome!! I have the night time toilet trips too, then wide awake for 2 hours. Every 3 or 4 nights I'll get straight back over. I've been trying to drink more during the day to cut the toilet trips out but doesn't work!

It's lovely , cause it was all different in my last pregnancies , and this one has been going well so far , 18 weeks to go and I can't wait to meet him now I have 2 very excited children who keep telling me he needs to hurry up and be here haha 😂😂 xx

TAW2502 · 27/07/2023 10:26

Has anyone been diagnosed with SPD / PGP (pelvic pain)?
I have been suffering for the past two days and think it was triggered by an office day where I have to lug a heavy bag around with my laptop/work gear etc! Our health and safety adviser at work thinks I have SPD and I'm wondering if i can hold off until my midwife apt next Friday or if I need to call GP/midwife sooner?
It's just tender and sore down in my pelvic area but I am able to continue with day to day things (walking the dog, standing etc) so don't want to push anything through urgent if not needed?

Any advice welcome!

I've been suffering with this since 16 weeks, i have finally been referred to physio , as im suffering so badly , I struggle with everything , standing , sitting , walking, mine is very tender . It does sound like you have SPD. There is exercises around helping with gridle pain on the badger app in the leaflet section xx

@TAW2502 I have suffered with this badly in the past (ended up on crutches) and it’s def started this pregnancy but not yet as bad as I was expecting by now. Can vary by area how much support you get, but I wouldn’t imagine it’s worth trying to pursue anything before your next appt since it’s reasonably soon. Where I am now, they won’t do hands on physio for this, so mostly we get leaflets with the same advice you can read online - basically keep your knees together as much as possible (eg when turning in bed or getting out of the car), and don’t do things which hurt (which eventually can be absolutely everything!). It’s really frustrating when you’re used to being active, but you really can’t push through it, you just risk making it worse. Hope your area is better than mine!

What happened at your appointment please? I've got my first one today as I've been suffering for 6 weeks with this and my midwife didn't do it so I called them myself and got an urgent appointment as I'm suffering so badly . I'm hoping I'll get something to help it as I do a lot of exercises to help but nothing seems to work xx

@LeeanneD11 I haven’t bothered with an appt this time as I didn’t find the service here v helpful before and I know all the advice for managing it inside out now. I lived in a different area previously and had actual physio for it (where the physio manipulated the joints, not just exercises to do at home) and that helped, but I’d have to go private for that here and I’m waiting to see how much worse it gets. Hopefully you’ll get hands-on help as sounds like you’re really suffering. Pillow between the knees at night makes a big difference and then it’s a case of identifying what you’re doing day to day that’s aggravating it and cutting out a much as possible. Obvs too much walking but lots of everyday household jobs like crouching down to washing machine, pushing a heavy trolley, hoovering and cleaning the bath can be big triggers. So get help with these if you can, or work arounds (I sit on a little stool at the washing machine to avoid the crouching). Try not to stand on one leg, so sit down to change trousers, def nothing like pushing a box or kicking a ball with one foot while your weight’s on the other. Don’t sit with one leg crossed over the other. It’s a total faff, but all these little movements do add up to make a difference to how bad it gets. If you have a toddler, try to get them to climb into car seat or buggy, climb up onto couch for cuddles etc, but not lifting them is the hardest one to avoid!

I have 2 older kids which is lucky but I walk everyday as school runs , the pillow between my legs at night doesn't help me at all, like I find it hard to sit down , I find it hard to get dressed too even sitting down or standing up, like it's frustrating me so much as it's affects me daily I'm only 23 weeks too . Luckily it's summer hols so makes a little difference but I'm hoping today I get a little more help with this even if it's a support belt xx
