We’re having a girl and calling her Eira, it’s a welsh name. I’ve always loved it and I’m welsh and lived my first 18 years there. I now live in Canada and eira is welsh for snow, which feels appropriate.

@GreenAventurine I took prenatal religiously before we conceived, for about 4 years. But ever since the nausea in the first trimester I haven’t really been taking them - much to my partners annoyance. We argue about it most days but they just remind me of throwing up. I probably need to more than most as I’m vegetarian, but I do eat pretty healthy, lots of fruit and veg and I get outside a lot. I feel guilty though…

DollyGx · 20/07/2023 04:52

@Mimi2022 I’m on the fumarate ones and they’ve actually been totally fine for me luckily. Was worried about nausea/constipation but I’ve had neither even though I take them on an empty stomach. Did try to up my fibre a bit since being on them so maybe that has helped too. Hope you find one that suits you I know some women just really don’t get on well with them at all 😕

Mrsrobinsonx · 20/07/2023 07:13

We don’t have names yet as not sure on the gender, think that makes it harder 🤣
Ive been taking pregnancy multivitamins all the way through and will continue to the end. I actually believe it’s the reason I’ve felt so great in comparison to my other pregnancies lol x

I've found DarkGreener is a great resource to help gauge name popularity.

I hadn't heard of DarkGreener, thank you for this. I know of little ones called Brody and Thea but only 2 Brodys and 1 Thea so I guess they are fairly uncommon names. My 7YO girl's nn is a top 10 name and my 5YO boys name is around 3100th and I'd like this baby boys name to fall somewhere in-between-so not too difficult!

Mummypig23 · 20/07/2023 08:01

I stopped taking prenatals in the first trimester as they were making sickness worse. Took vitamin b, folic acid and vitamin d as separates and now just taking vitamin d.

Finding boys names tricky. DH wants a long name with a nickname. Thinking maybe Freddie.

Love that name Freddie , I wanted Freddie but we had a Freddie in the family already so we had to keep thinking boys name are harder than girls xx

TMI2000 · 20/07/2023 09:06

What lovely names! We have decided on Elijah David for our little boy, we loved Elijah and David after my late grandad ❤

As for pre-natals I was so good up until 12 weeks and now I keep forgetting to take Vit D as I have been so focussed on taking my Aspirin but getting back on it now!

reememberly · 20/07/2023 09:46

Loving hearing everyone’s name choices. We haven’t even spoken about it yet, but I’ve been on DH’s case about coming up with a few suggestions to add to my list, cause we don’t even have any front runners. Our last baby didn’t have a name until he was three wks old (the day you have to register here in Scotland) and it was horrible and stressful worrying about it constantly in the newborn days - don’t want to repeat that!

I’m taking vit d every day and iron (the fumerate one which is apparently gentler than the other) every second day and even then I’ve not been able to face it the last week cause it’s really messing with my system. Will have to start up again though as my iron was low coming into pregnancy and levels not come up much. I tried the liquid stuff for about 6 months as it’s not as harsh, but wasn’t seeing enough improvement.

Thack · 20/07/2023 12:35

@spanglesj have you had your scan now? Finger's crossed for it.
I had a growth scan this morning, I'm on the other end of the scale, measuring under the 5th centile. Nothing I can do, they're sending me for more scans.

medicmumma · 20/07/2023 13:14

Anyone finding themselves really teary atm?

I feel sad and I don’t know why - I’m so excited to have a baby girl but since I became 23 weeks I feel so bleurgh

JoyApple · 20/07/2023 14:40

@medicmumma Yes! I had a good ole cry today. It has been a bit rough recently tbh but I am definitely more teary and emotional. Was meant to have a mental health assessment and misplaced my phone, so missed my appointment after waiting 2 weeks for it! :(

JD90 · 20/07/2023 15:04

@medicmumma yes!! 100% I was at work yesterday and had a bit of a funny turn and my colleagues checked my bp, hr, bm etc but for the rest of the day I could just feel my eyes welling up constantly on the verge of tears! It was horrible! Everyone kept asking if I was okay and I was like yeah I'm fine, just want to cry for some reason! Really doesn't help when I'm definitely not an overtly emotional person. 🤣

FlyingHighFlyingLow · 20/07/2023 15:45

@medicmumma I've needed a few good vent cries. I'm now up to 6 complications after most recent visit. Most of them not too uncommon (they range in incidence of 1:200 to 1:10) but even the consultant was amazed to find them all in one person, none of them are linked!

They reassured me all of them still have a good chance of healthy baby, but include various levels of monitoring, scans, swabs, injections etc.

I have 5 neighbours and close friends who are pregnant and they all seem to be sailing through. Met up with a couple after my consultant appointment and they were talking about names and how awful it was that they last saw baby at 20 weeks and won't see again until birth unless they went private. Meanwhile I need a repeat 20 week scan as baby didn't co-operate, and I have 3 more growth scans booked, and more placental scans, other tests and 2 more specialist meetings due to new complication. I'm genuinely so happy for them and glad their pregnancies are going well but I did have a good frustrated/jealous cry when I got home. Especially after one said they were jealous I got to see so much of baby and how much scans excite them. I know they didn't mean it and were trying to find silver lining but it did upset me. I can safely say none of my medical appointments excite me, I go into them wondering what they're going to find wrong next! I think next time I'll make sure not to meet on same day as appointment as I need time to digest and let stuff sink in so I'm less of a fragile mess. I feel much better now I've slept on it and had time to look it up myself and just sit with it.

Sb86 · 20/07/2023 18:28

I can definitely relate to that @FlyingHighFlyingLow one of my best friends is due 4 weeks after me and I'm genuinely happy for her but obviously we just wish our babies the best start in life. I wish I weren't having more scans because like you I go into them thinking what is going to be wrong this time, what's going to have got worse? It's very nerve wracking. Sending you love and strength 💪🏽 ❤️

Mldn · 22/07/2023 11:09

Has anybody leaked fluid? I was just sat having my nails done & just felt sooo sweaty. Then when it finished I noticed a huge wet patch between my legs. I didn’t feel anything come out, but it looks suspiciously like I’ve weed myself 🙄 unsure what is considered normal & what should get checked! Sorry, TMI I know. Pregnancy is defo not glamorous 😩

Sb86 · 22/07/2023 11:16

@Mldn funny you should sat that, I had this happen to me last night and my underwear had a big wet patch. Sounds disgusting but I smelt it to see if I could determine what it was, it definitely wasn't urine but it hasn't happened since so it could just have been very watery discharge 🤷🏼‍♀️ Keep an eye on it and if you get any more leaks then maybe go get checked just to be safe.

Mldn · 22/07/2023 11:19

Thanks for replying @Sb86 Yes, I smelt it too 😂 - it doesn’t smell of anything & feels too watery to be discharge. The last few days I’ve been weeing like there is no tomorrow - sooo frustrating. So I wonder if baby is on my bladder. I’m busy today, so can’t go to get checked. So I think I’ll do as you say & just monitor it & get it checked if anything else happens!

whatamess100 · 22/07/2023 13:03

Anyone else a nervous wreck regarding movements? Begining of the week he was going crazy to the point i thought he was too active but then the last few days hes not moved much at all. Its stressing me out. I think tomorrow i may ring mau to get checked out if he doesnt move much more tonight.

FfoxRedN · 22/07/2023 14:58

@whatamess100 mine seems to vary week by week and day by day. I am sure I've read they don't have a routine until 28weeks?
I find when I've laid on my tummy (with two pillows above and below the bump so I'm not leaning on him, or on a lilo 🤣) I feel the movements so much more! Also if I'm busy I just don't notice them, have you had a busy few days?

I feel quite chilled about the movements at this stage but DH is a real worrier and keeps asking, which is naturally making me worry more 🤦🏼‍♀️.

Might be worth a midwife call if you're starting to feel anxious about it xxx

Travellingislife · 22/07/2023 18:07

@Mldn I had it at 17 weeks and I’d just been for a wee so didn’t think I had wee’d myself but it felt like a big gush. I put a pad on to check that it didn’t continue to leak and then I phoned the EPU who asked me to come in. They were sure it wasn’t amniotic fluid since it was just one gush but since I was worried they did check that my cervix was closed and they also tested the fluid. It was most likely just vaginal discharge which had built up.

spanglesj · 22/07/2023 22:09

hi has anyone else started getting restless legs / body at night? I had this in my third trimester before, can’t believe how intense it is this time so early! Also I think pre-third trimester tiredness has kicked in. I’m absolutely floored again and feel like am barely coping!

@medicmumma with you on the teariness since 23 wks! The sobs aren’t far away! I’m having to have extra scans and saw that baby had nearly doubled in size in the last few wks so I think a big extra dose of hormones is probably responsible!!! xx

@FlyingHighFlyingLow sorry you’re having to go through that with extra scans for those reasons. It’s hard enough to cope with without well meaning comments - I have only been on the receiving end of those regarding fertility treatment and early losses and I have to say it just adds to the stress, I just had to keep reminding myself that ppl didn’t know better. Sending love X

GreenAventurine · 24/07/2023 18:55

Hey everyone. 23 weeks 2 days and I’m suffering a lot with extreme bloating 😞 It’s just my stomach and usually towards the end of the day. Really getting uncomfy. Ive started peppermint tea (which I remember is good after a section so I’m trying to get used to and enjoy the taste). Not sure it’s helping at the moment!

I seem to be a little more tired these last few days too.

Also, we were set on the name Violet, but that’s totally out now. I have learnt my lesson with buying personalised things 😂😂

How is everyone doing?

Psqueak87 · 24/07/2023 19:47

ive been looking at prams and travel systems for the last month. There’s so many options at so many different prices, it’s a minefield.

then I realised I’m giving birth in November, in Alberta in Canada. Weather is gonna be between -5 and -40c for her first 5 months of life. Also, lots of snow on the ground.

is it reasonable to just buy a good baby carrier instead? I can’t imagine I’m going to want to push a pram around much, I walk the dogs a lot but they’re on trails I don’t think prams would do great on at the best of times, let alone winter.

the only place I can see using one is the mall, or food shopping, but that can be done with a carrier too. This is my first baby so maybe my thinking makes no sense…

Psqueak87 · 24/07/2023 19:49

@GreenAventurine yep I’m 25+2 and I’m also very bloated every night! I’ll try the peppermint tea, although I went off it after drinking it in the first trimester when I was sick.

otherwise I feel pretty good. Heartburn comes and goes. Baby kicks felt most nights, but never really that strong (anterior placenta). Got my gestational diabetes test tomorrow!

PinkPlantCase · 24/07/2023 20:01

Hi @GreenAventurine I don’t know about bloated but I definitely get very full! Like my bottom stomach is very full of baby and my top stomach is very full of food 😂

On the whole though I feel good 😊 it’s nice to be feeling baby more often and not be too achey yet. DH is able to feel the kicks sometimes now too.

@Psqueak87 I lived in baby wearing coats with DS, they were so good because you’d know baby was as good temperature as you’d share body heat in them. I imagine one of those and a baby carrier would do you very well for the cold. I preferred a stretchy wrap sling, after a few YouTube videos I soon got the hang of doing it up and it put much less weight on my shoulders than a ‘baby carrier’ as they weight is more evenly distributed. I was probably still using it when DS was 18 months old as it easily grew with him.

https://www.wombatandco.com/babywearing-maternity-clothes/wallaby-coat/ this is the winter coat I had, it was so warm as faux fur lined and a good length so especially as baby got longer I was sure their legs would still be warm and covered.
