@LeeanneD11 bless you it really is. Defo speak to your midwife and hopefully she can answer any questions you have and put your mind at ease a bit xx

TMI2000 · 07/06/2023 13:35

Morning all!
just had my first midwife appointment at 16 weeks and feel really lucky, she was lovely, listened and heard heartbeat which was really nice, and said the guidance is to wait until 24 weeks I think but she wants the pregnancy to feel more personal and was basically saying all these guidelines are codswallop and care should be fit around whag mum thinks best so I will be seeing again after 20 week scan.
I will also have the same midwife all the way through which makes me super happy. Feeling a lot of peace today as well as determination to eat a more balanced diet for baby!

how’s everyone doing today?x

38andtrying · 07/06/2023 14:27

@TMI2000 hats great news, i hope my midwife is nice, although when i spoke to one previously she was adamant they wouldn't listen to baby's heartbeat

I found the below when researching so surely they will do it if i ask?

"Midwives no longer check baby’s heartbeat at 16 weeks because it can still be difficult to locate so they wait until baby is bigger to prevent any unnecessary anxiety, but NICE guidelines say it can be available at 'maternal request'. "

BabyBabyBaby123 · 07/06/2023 15:51

I had my 16 week appointment today at 17+1 and it was mainly just admin and making sure that all my details from booking appointment were correct. She generated a growth chart for me, which will be used from my next appointment at 26 weeks.
She didn’t listen to heartbeat, but I also didn’t ask to, I’m content to wait until 20 weeks can and then my husband is off work when I will have my 26 week appointment so he can hopefully come along and have a listen too.
I will be having a repeat ELCS due to complications in my first pregnancy which make me unsuitable for VBAC, but she said I probably won’t hear from the consultant til 32-36 weeks to book me in, which seems incredibly late, I had my c section booked at 22 weeks last time, so 32 weeks + is going to be a long wait!

TMI2000 · 07/06/2023 15:59

@38andtrying i would definitely ask them at the appointment, all you can do is ask! I was lucky I didn’t even need to ask! Hopefully it goes well for you🤞🏻

Psqueak87 · 07/06/2023 17:49

Had my third OBGYN doctor apt today. He’s great, very blunt but I prefer it that way. He’s been listening to heartbeat since 10ish weeks, so I’d definitely push if you want to hear it. I never ask he just does it at the end of every appointment. He said as I’m a “healthy” BMI I should be feeling the baby between now and the next 2 weeks. Said if I was carrying more weight it could be into the 22+ weeks. But also mentioned anterior placenta and that he’d take a look at the ultrasound I have next week to see where mines located.

Was also wondering if I could do a pretty intense mountain hike in the Rockies next weekend and he had no issues with it, just told me I’d likely be out of breath more often than usual so to take regular breaks.

after every good appointment I now buy something small for the baby, so I bought a couple of cute onesies today!

I had put on 3.5kg in the last 4 weeks! Not surprising after the road trip I just did, eating out every day! He said 1-2kg a month is normal, but he’s happy with the gain as I’d lost in the first trimester. BP is also now normal at 100/60!

so happy I got to hear the HR as I had been worrying a little that I hadn’t felt movement.

hope everyone’s having a great week!

Just looking for a vent/reassurance - 18 weeks and I was coming home on the tube this evening and this obese woman fell onto my bump from standing (?for some reason she didn't bother holding onto the pole on a moving tube). Had some mild-moderate pain since, but not sure how much of is just stress. Luckily no bleeding - going to call maternity helpline in the AM, because not really sure how much ED would do this evening/overnight especially as I am less than < 24 weeks - i.e. viability

Feeling angry and upset but trying to stay level headed

Mrsrobinsonx · 08/06/2023 20:35

@medicmumma did you fall over or anything? How hard did she hit your bump? Usually they are so well protected inside that most of the time it will be fine but definitely keep an eye and ring if you need to xx

Mrsrobinsonx · 08/06/2023 20:37

Evening!
bit of a weird one but has anyone had ‘pressure’ down below already? 🙈
I remember it when I was further along with my girls and obviously when they are head down but it feels like my bits are really heavy already 😂

No I was sitting down, but she fell onto me as she was standing - it was quite a hard jolt and I had to push her off because she didn't get up straight away so just quite worried because of her size. So upsetting it's happened it's really worrying me as I know the things that potentially go wrong (I am not an O+G doctor so I don't know how worried to be) - really hoping its all ok

You’ve done well to stay so level headed @medicmumma!!

I had a fairly nasty fall in the shower a few weeks ago, luckily I landed on my bum and not belly but I was reading about falls and general bump related trauma. From what I understand the biggest risk is the placenta detaching as a result of impact but this isn’t a risk until much later on in pregnancy. I think towards the end of the third trimester. So hopefully all will be fine at this stage, baby is very well protected.

Take it easy over the next few days x

38andtrying · 08/06/2023 21:45

@medicmumma I think unless you're rhesus negative you don't have to worry too much about bumps, but always best to get checked out incase. I'd he infuriated too tbh, how thoughtless some people are

Thack · 09/06/2023 05:36

@medicmumma hopefully it will all be fine. I take comfort in how hard they push during ultrasounds - these bumps can take some pressure! I'm sure the maternity line will respond quickly.

@Mrsrobinsonx I had that same thought yesterday. It wasn't all day, I wondered if baby had turned up for a bit?!

I told boss' boss last week, went OK. She was nice about it but I can tell she's not impressed (there's been a spate of pregnancies recently)- not my problem! Just glad the conversation is done.

medicmumma · 09/06/2023 08:35

Called maternity helpline and they said most likely it will be fine because baby is only small - but I can go to a&e for reassurance scan so now spending my 1 day off this week going to hospital 😭

MeganC104 · 09/06/2023 09:04

I'm worried about my Toddler jumping on my bump. He's very boisterous.

I'm officially half way today and it's our 20 week scan this morning. Can't wait to see them again

38andtrying · 09/06/2023 09:56

@MeganC104 good luck with your scan today, let us know how things go x

Sb86 · 09/06/2023 09:57

Good luck with the scan @MeganC104 🥰

Travellingislife · 09/06/2023 12:10

@medicmumma I’m sure all is fine as like so many others said, they’re well protected. It’s good you can go for a scan and get reassurance though.

@MeganC104 good luck with you scan! Can’t wait for mine!

Travellingislife · 09/06/2023 12:14

Does anyone not feel pregnant? I’m not feeling nauseous anymore and I don’t feel any movement. At my 12 week scan they thought I had an anterior placenta so I probably won’t feel anything for another few weeks either. I’m nearly 19 weeks.
I’m starting to get a bit worried and can’t help but thinking something might be wrong and I’ll find out at my 20 week scan. I heard the heartbeat at 16 weeks though which made me less anxious for a while.

38andtrying · 09/06/2023 12:18

@Travellingislife im nearly 18 weeks and i feel exactly the same, since yesterday as well i have been in a strange mood, not exactly down but not really feeling motivated and could be on edge of tears if someone spoke to me wrong way, making me feel anxious that all is ok too, i went for a scan at 16 weeks and all was ok, its crazy how scan contentment lasts max a week isnt it. I was told i have anterior placenta at that scan and it is my first baby so im freaking out about feeling baby move as well

medicmumma · 09/06/2023 12:23

Just back from my scan - everything’s ok 🙏🏼 Placenta has moved from anterior to posterior so hopefully will start to feel movements a bit earlier than I was expecting now

PinkPlantCase · 09/06/2023 12:35

Great news @medicmumma enjoy the rest of your day off x

38andtrying · 09/06/2023 12:35

@medicmumma amazing news :)

TMI2000 · 09/06/2023 12:37

@medicmumma ah brilliant news! At least you weren't there too long on your day off, time to relax!

LeeanneD11 · 09/06/2023 12:41

Hi

Is this normal? I've not felt any flutters and this is my 3rd pregnancy. I'm coming up to 16 weeks so hoping to feel movements soon. The anxious wait is killing me for my scan . I've got midwife in 2 weeks which doesn't help me in anyway .

Am I over thinking or panicking . Or this normal

I don't feel pregnant . I've had so many complications already . I feel drained and emotional xx
