Has anyone had this in pregnancy and does this look like it?? I was shocked as thought it was just pregnancy acne??

oh heavens. My younger two have both had impetigo when at nursery and it didn't look like this. It was a red rash with a golden crust and they scratched stupid. What did he give you for it if he thinks it's impetigo?

Theirmumxx · 18/05/2023 18:11

I really don’t think it is!! He’s given hydrogen peroxide cream but I’m reluctant to use it as I don’t think it is impetigo!? Xx

Dds looked scabby. She needed antibiotics to treat it.

NotMyDayJob · 18/05/2023 18:15

DD had impetigo that looked more like a spotty rash than the classic golden crust that I'd always been told about. She got antibiotics and it did clear up. If the Dr does think that is impetigo I can't see how hydrogen peroxide will help

Theirmumxx · 18/05/2023 18:21

It took him ages to find a cream that was safe for pregnancy? It says online hydrogen peroxide is used to treat impetigo?

My daughter has impetigo at the moment and it’s very scabby and crusty. Doesn’t look like yours? She was given cream that cleared it up literally 2 days later

J21x · 18/05/2023 18:41

haven’t had it in pregnancy but when I had impetigo it was more spotty with a crust rather than lumpy. Maybe worth a second opinion? Not saying the doctor is wrong but always with another set of eyes examining

lissie123 · 18/05/2023 18:53

I would ask for a second opinion

bluebirdsongs · 18/05/2023 19:00

Impetigo looks like crushed cornflakes stuck to your face

Yes, good description!
Get 2nd opinion, doesn't look like impetigo.

Flufs · 18/05/2023 19:04

Is it both sides? How long have you had it?

Goodfuckingriddance · 18/05/2023 19:07

I had it and it definitely did not look like that plus spread rapidly and was highly contagious.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 18/05/2023 19:12

That looks like it could blister and look like classic impetigo any minute. I'd use the cream, why wouldn't you?

Lavendersquare · 18/05/2023 19:13

That looks like cystic acne rather than impetigo, my son suffers with it. The treatment is hydrogen peroxide cream so you have been prescribed the correct thing. My son had to use once every 24 hours before bed. Use the cream as directed and you'll see a difference in a few days. Just remember that this has a mild bleaching action so protect your clothes, bedding etc

Candymay · 18/05/2023 19:14

I don’t think that’s impetigo. Please get a second opinion. It looks like acne. Possibly roseacea.

Favouritefruits · 18/05/2023 19:18

It’s peri oral dermatitis, I had it last year and after months of back and forward to the Dr I used my private medical insurance and as soon as I sat down she diagnosed me and the tablets only took two months to work and I’ve been free ever since!

FatAgain · 18/05/2023 19:20

He should have given you topical antibiotics called fucidin and oral antibiotics, that looks like a really bad outbreak.

Zeonlywayisup · 18/05/2023 19:21

I think it’s shingles is it just on that side/quadrant? If it is you need treatment depending on where you are in your pregnancy.

Thank you I was trying to remember what this was caused!!! @Theirmumxx i think you have an extreme version of this which I have developed during perimnenopause (so suspect hormonally exacerbated as luckily always had good skin )….I have finally worked out that toothpaste triggers mine after 5 years of getting it. Was given an oral cream at 1 point but never fully cleared til I changed toothpaste type.

Alphabeaters · 18/05/2023 19:45

I

Alphabeaters · 18/05/2023 19:46

I had this. Doctor wasn't sure what it was but prescribed canestan. It went within a few days of applying the cream.

Theirmumxx · 18/05/2023 19:47

Wow thanks for all your replies!

yes it’s just on one side of my mouth! I do suffer with acne pre pregnancy anyway but I went to the drs with conjunctivitis and he said I have impetigo?? I’ve had it for about 3 weeks though?? Some days it’s better than others?? Surely my kids would of caught it now I’ve been kissing them and sharing towels etc because I just thought it was spots xxx

Canestan cream is totally safe in pregnancy so it's worth a try.

dwightschrutebeets · 18/05/2023 19:55

Mine didn't look like this. Not sure what it is though sorry

Zeonlywayisup · 18/05/2023 20:01

Google images “shingles chin” and go back to the Dr.
