you could just have my 6 year old.

schneebly · 17/02/2008 21:22

apparently the 'male' sperm swim faster and die quicker so sex as close to ovulation as possible is supposed to be better for a boy.

schneebly · 17/02/2008 21:23

and make sure you achieve orgasm before dh (no idea why but I have heard this)

dontwanttogetoutofbed · 17/02/2008 21:25

sorry but how do i know exactly when i'm ovulating (rather than guessing)

Nappyzone · 17/02/2008 21:26

drinking caffeine before nookie i think as speeds em up.... buy ovulation kits of ebay for about a fiver instead of £25 in boots!

To Get A Boy (According to Shettles):

Time intercourse as close to ovulation as possible: The idea is that since the Y-chromosome sperm are faster than the X-chromosome sperm, there will be more Y-chromosome sperm who reach the egg, making it more likely that a Y-chromosome carrying sperm will fertilize the egg.

Abstain from intercourse for four to five days prior to ovulation. Have intercourse only just at the time of ovulation and just before.

Have intercourse that allows for deep penetration. Shettles recommends rear-entry (aka, ?doggy-style?). The idea is that the sperm will be deposited closer to the cervix where cervical fluid is most friendly to the Y-chromosome sperm and where the ?boy sperm? are more likely to survive since there is less distance to travel.

Men avoid tight clothes: heat kills off both types of sperm, but will kill off the less protected, smaller Y-chromosome sperm faster, according to Shettles.

Women have an orgasm: According to Shettles, female orgasm increases the alkaline secretions in the vagina that are favorable to the Y-chromosome carrying sperm. Shettles recommends having an orgasm before or at the same time as the male partner.

Heated · 17/02/2008 21:38

To Get a Girl (According to Shettles):

Have intercourse 2-3 days before ovulation and avoid intercourse just before ovulation until 2 days after ovulation and when you have peak cervical fluid: The idea is that when you have sex a few days before ovulation, only the X-chromosome ?girl sperm? will be left in the female reproductive tract waiting to fertilize the egg when it is released.

Have intercourse with shallow penetration: Shettles recommends ?missionary position?or any position that will deposit the sperm slightly away from the cervix, giving advantage to the longer living, but slower X-chromosome-carrying sperm.

Women avoid orgasm: Shettles suggests women avoid orgasm because it makes the vaginal environment more alkaline, and less acidic and is disadvantageous to the X-chromosome ?girl sperm?.

For both boys and girls you can also make subtle alterations to diet:

Diet high in potassium and sodium for a boy.
Diet high in calcium and magnesium for a girl.

kayzisbroody · 17/02/2008 21:39

Hopefully it will work for you, I'll keep my fingers crossed.

kayzisbroody · 17/02/2008 21:42

Thanks Heated, I'll have to try that.

Heated · 17/02/2008 21:44

S'all right. Just name her after me

dontwanttogetoutofbed · 17/02/2008 21:46

IIRC the diet stuff says for a boy cut out dairy, jam, etc and focus on meats, breads etc- I'm dary allergic so maybe theres a link?

there's a book- by HAzel somebody or toehr- on Amazon- has a lot of this and more in it. I shall try and get you a link.

Peachy · 19/02/2008 09:46

this one (as wella s the shettles one- very similar) is the 'standard' text I think. Easy tor ead, lots of stuff about diets and timing and knowing when you ovulate etc. Worth a read i think.

Did it work for us?

Well I didnt conceive within the girl period at all so we gave up and just went for it, and all the indicators said a boy and lo and behold one was conceived ina month LOL- so yes, in a way!

mumblesmummy · 19/02/2008 13:46

Peachy- I'm dairy intollerant and I'm having a boy too.

I just had sex all the time and got pregnant with a boy. Try it, it's lots of fun.

We had sex all the times you're supposed to, to get a girl. The first 2 times by accident, the second 2 times on purpose. We are expecting our 4th boy! Dr Shettles, bah-humbug! I also did the diet thing for ds3.
Hi Peachy!
