Hi all,
Desperately reaching out to see if anybody can help.
I am trying to work out my take home net pay per month, 37.5 hrs on an NHS band 8a - bottom of band.
Is there anybody who would be happy to share what their take home was split over 12 months on a 8a on Mat leave please?
our HR won’t forecast it for me - being very difficult 🙈
Many thanks for any help x

HR didn't forecast for me, it was actually payroll that ended up doing mine-have you checked with them? Also, if you do end up with a forecast, ask them to confirm if its net or gross! They gave me gross without stipulating, and then my pension was deducted and it messed up my budgeting 🤦🏻‍♀️ isn't help you re how much though, sorry as I'm B7.

Hang on and I’ll calculate it for you now. (Ex-NHS HR.)

LucyW321 · 27/04/2023 20:54

Bless you, thank you for replying ❤️

Yeah they’ve said it will be gross that they will forecast but not until 31+ weeks.. neither of which is any good when you’re trying to get organised 😂🙈
Nightmare!!
Thank you so much for reaching out x

If it's any help, my bottom 8a + essential car user (£60?) Is ~£2850 pm

bookish83 · 27/04/2023 20:58

Sorry for hijacking but how do you get an essential car user payment? Do you still get standard mileage rate @RNLD1981 ?

OP the maternity calculator for nhs was very accurate for me

Catipepo · 27/04/2023 20:58

Hopefully this is helpful!
However, mine does include the inner London allowance.
This is gross pay before pension, tax etc

48526 is 933.19 per week

8 weeks full pay = 7465.54
18 weeks half pay = 8398.73
18 weeks SMP = 3104.64
13 weeks SMP =. 2242.24

so 21211.15 over 12 months is £1767.60 gross.

Sorry for split posts. I would recommend getting the pay as it comes rather than splitti g over 12 months. Every friend or colleague (various trusts) have had their pay completely messed up when splitting it over 12 months.

Having it as normal wages allows you to keep track of each week's allowance. Just of course have to be strict on your budgeting.

I literally posted this 15 minutes ago - with all these replies and support.
What an amazing group of people you are helping others - thank you!! Xx

Just be aware they can't average your SMP out so your first few months of pay will be significantly lower until the SMP kicks in. Obviously then you'll see the benefit at the end of the your leave when you wouldn't normally get pay.

OnceAgainWithFeeling · 27/04/2023 21:08

Eh?

frostyfeb · 27/04/2023 21:20

Don't forget you also get annual leave so in theory you could take 11 months, followed by 4/5 weeks annual leave that will be paid. This really helped me. I also did my KIT days when o had 0 pay so it was a benefit.

And you will get child benefit too

What that poster has said makes zero sense.

Camaccarr · 22/10/2023 11:35

How much change did your take home pay work out as in the end?

MummytoTeddy · 09/12/2023 09:46

Hiya
im in this same situation now and just wondered if you would be able to share your forecast with me please? I am bottom of band 8a , no extra allowances.
desperate to try to work out whether I can have a year or just the 8 weeks full and 18 weeks half pay!

baguettehead · 09/12/2023 09:56

Shocking that band 8 nhs staff can't do basic maths!

MummytoTeddy · 09/12/2023 10:01

that is so rude!
I can actually, but it’s good to sense check it against someone that has actually received! If you don’t have the answer do you have to post?

CLS89 · 07/01/2024 07:54

Hi
can anyone advice what you actually bring home monthly whilst on maternity leave bottom band 8a nhs?
thank you in advance
