Gender of miscarried baby

Hey,

I think I know the answer to this but I just need to know for sure. I have a scan of my baby at 10 weeks 5 days, I then found out at 13 weeks 2 days that I had a missed miscarriage. Went on to miscarry the baby at 14 weeks.

It's always been on my mind if the baby was a boy or girl, I know it doesn't matter but I still feel so connected and want to be able to say he or she rather than baby.

Is it possible in anyway at all to tell from a scan picture that early?

I don’t think it is however, I am 100% convinced that my first baby I miscarried was a girl.
I even had a name for her.
The miscarriages after that, I didn’t attach the same connection. I don’t know why. I had that many that it became an awful routine.

Ttcmumma · 22/04/2023 18:34

@Mightyouandiconfabulate thank you for replying! I find it hard not knowing. I know it's silly.

I'm convinced this baby was a girl, my first born is a boy and this pregnancy was a lot harder and nausea was far worse etc but I also know each pregnancy was different and maybe it was because I was going to lose this one!

I'm so sorry to hear you have had any miscarriage let alone many! I wouldn't wish the pain on anyone. Are you still trying to concieve?

Sorry for your loss ❤️

I miscarried at 13 weeks and was convinced it was a girl. Pregnancy to that point was mirroring my pregnancy with my daughter- no sickness/symptoms etc

I asked the nurses who did the erpc and they said they couldn't tell for sure but they thought a girl too.

Mightyouandiconfabulate · 22/04/2023 19:43

I now have 2 children thankfully.

Theduchy · 22/04/2023 19:48

It's not possible to tell from a scan at that gestation I'm sorry OP. A friend miscarried at the same gestation as you and saw the baby. She saw her baby (miscarried at home) and couldn't tell if it was a boy or girl looking at it. At that stage they have a nub which grows to be either genitalia.

I'm so sorry for your loss.

Sorry for your loss

i convinced myself that my miscarriage was a girl because I thought that I would never have a girl

but ive no idea really

SummerInTheSky · 22/04/2023 19:54

Sorry for your loss. ❤️
Looking at the scan picture, I think this may be a girl.
I have had a boy and currently carrying a girl and the main difference was the forehead.
Girls tend to have a rounder forehead also.
X

I'm so sorry for your loss. Thank you for sharing such a special picture of your beautiful little bean. I would go with your instinct as its really the only thing you have to go on, and proceed from there (whether you wish to pick a name etc).

Aria20 · 22/04/2023 19:56

Sorry for your loss. Looking at shape of head and also the nub I would say girl too x

Ttcmumma · 22/04/2023 19:59

I'm so sorry for your loss! It's so strange not knowing for sure isn't it? x

Oh wow that must have been so hard on her. Thank you for reinforcing that there is no way to know for sure. I know in my heart noone can tell me but need to know I atleast tried you know?

I miscarried at home in the end too, tho I saw nothing but clots. Nothing of any shape or form so didn't even know if flushed baby until the hospital informed me bubba was actually gone 😔 I thought I just hadn't lost that part of the pregnancy yet.

Thank you x

I think we just do anything we can to connect and remember the baby. I'm convinced this is my baby girl I will probably never have too

I thought the same but thought maybe I was just convincing myself. I know it's not a definite but thank you so much for your opinion. Makes me feel a little less crazy. I have a little boy I need to dig out his scans and compare. I don't remember his head being this round x

♥️ thank you this was so sweet to read.
Yes I think for my own sanity I'm settling on this being my little girl, now I have an Earthside boy and an angel girl. This pregnancy was the opposite of everything with my son's really which gives me the thought it's a girl. He asks me sometimes too if it was a baby brother or baby sister. I guess that makes it play on my mind more too x

Thank you! Definitely makes me feel a little less crazy that others can speculate a gender from such an early scan too. I guess my mother's instinct is telling me something too x

So sorry for your loss. I've had 3 losses and I understand wanting to know more, including the sex. You could try sending the scan photo to one of the online gender predictor sites. There's one called gender pros and I've used them before and know several people who have too and got accurate results.

DeflatedAgain · 22/04/2023 20:08

It's extremely early to say. If I had to make a guess from the picture I would say a girl.

Hope you're okay - sending hugs ❤️

WhisperingAutistic · 22/04/2023 20:10

I lost mine at 12 weeks and never knew either. I was convinced it was a girl as the pregnancy was so different to my 3 boys.
I named her and its a comfort.
I'm so sorry for your loss xx

Princesspuppy · 22/04/2023 20:11

I‘m so sorry ❤️

I completely understand wanting to know the gender of your baby. Because it wasn’t just a baby and and ‘it‘, he or she was a little boy or a little girl.

For what it’s worth, I would guess girl. As other posters have said, the rounded forehead makes me think that.

Of course that is only from my own anecdotal ‘research‘- my son (square head) and daughter (rounded head), plus looking at scans of friend‘s babies.

Same

i called her millie and our local hospital had a chapel where you could arrange for their name to be written in a book of remembrance which was lovely

Having said all that dd turned up a year later…

thinking of you tctmumma i agree with others that if you think she was a girl then she was, I hope ‘knowing’ brings you a little peace

pimplebum · 22/04/2023 20:18

Sorry to hear about your v sad loss
Boy baby's are the waker sex medically speaking
I know this is a random suggestion but why not go to medium if you vaguely believe in that malarkey they always say something along the lines if granny is coming forward holding a baby girl// boy

I clearly saw my sons genitals at 12 weeks but sorry only an expert ( maybe) could tell you

Hope you find peace somehow xx

PickledScrump · 22/04/2023 20:47

Unfortunately baby needs to be above 12 weeks to see a nub. Did you have a feeling of what it may have been? I would go with whatever you felt it to be. I’m so so sorry for your loss.

FixTheBone · 22/04/2023 21:03

We had two miscarriages, one at term, a girl, the other at 14 weeks.

For the second we were offered genetic testing to see if there was a cause for the miscarriage, but also if we wanted to know the sex.

thebaneofmylifeisacat · 23/04/2023 23:17

So very sorry for you op snd all the loss on here or maybe better to say all the love. Xx
