Hi all,

I'm hoping to find some success stories regarding a second pregnancy with a resus negative blood type.

I've heard mixed things about it. My midwife thinks with anti D I should be ok with a second but there isn't a lot of information?

Thank you

I’m redid negative and my second pregnancy was absolutely fine. I just had the jags around 22 weeks, can’t remember exactly when, and again when they were born. No issues for me. Best of luck!

dementedpixie · 19/04/2023 17:05

I've had 2 children with no issues. I got anti d with both during the pregnancy and then after the births I got another anti d injection so I assume both my kids are rh positive. (I am B- and dh is A+)

Moorwoodsriver · 19/04/2023 17:08

I had no problems having a second despite him being positive

StandUpForYourRights · 19/04/2023 17:08

Just make sure you have the anti-D jabs and baby will be fine.

My 2nd was Rh negative anyway.

ifiwereaboy83 · 19/04/2023 17:08

It'll be on your notes, just be sure that if you have any knocks/falls or impact to your tummy during pregnancy you go to hospital for an anti d shot. I had to have two during pregnancy.

Holly03 · 19/04/2023 17:09

I’ve got 2 children and I’m rhesus negative just get the jabs when you bleed and bump your stomach and you will be fine. It’s only a problem if you don’t get the injections after your previous pregnancy (after you have given birth to a positive baby or miscarriage or abortion). I only had problems with my ds as I had an abortion at a very young age and wasn’t advised of being rhesus negative so had no jabs. Both children positive blood types

Scottishgirl85 · 19/04/2023 17:11

I'm negative and all 3 of my children were positive. Did the injections, absolutely no issues. I don't think it's a problem?

Jellycats4life · 19/04/2023 17:13

I’m rhesus negative and had two trouble free pregnancies. Both babies were rhesus positive too. I had anti D (2x per pregnancy) and all was fine.

17to35 · 19/04/2023 17:14

Rhesus negative and six healthy pregnancies. Anti D has revolutionised this.

violetcuriosity · 19/04/2023 17:24

Just had my second, didn't even know it could be an issue. Both my children are +
and I just needed anti-d.

caramac04 · 19/04/2023 17:42

With anti-d the vast majority of babies are fine but there is still a slight risk of rhesus disease. This can be easily managed in hospital but I would speak to your midwife for reassurance.

EndofDaze · 19/04/2023 17:57

No problems here. Miscarriage and then two more pregnancies. Anti D every time.

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 19/04/2023 17:58

It's not a problem, just have the injections.
I'm negative too and kids are positive

GMH1974 · 19/04/2023 18:03

I was absolutely fine. I had all the jabs they recommended.

Shopper727 · 19/04/2023 18:18

I’ve had 4 babies no issues all jabs at appropriate times, was 28 weeks for prophylactic dose of anti d with my last baby. All healthy babies no issues with it at all hope all goes well for you 😊

Capitulatingpanda · 19/04/2023 19:50

They can test your blood to find out baby blood type early in pregnancy so you wouldn't necessarily need anti d. I didn't have it in my second pregnancy.

dementedpixie · 19/04/2023 19:52

Not every area offers pre birth testing

Capitulatingpanda · 19/04/2023 19:55

Sara Wickham is a researcher and midwife that has some resources about anti d on her website and has written a book about it.

I don't think my hospital offers as standard but when I told them I wasn't going to have anti d as it was unnecessary they offered testing. They had to send it away so for analysis so they probably don't do that many.

BQ91 · 19/04/2023 20:08

I was rhesus negative, always had my anti d when I had a bleed and routinely but unfortunately still ended up sensitised during my second pregnancy which is quite rare. This meant they detected the antibodies in my blood and there was a chance they could attack baby. I just had to have regular blood tests which thankfully were fine. After the birth they checked her cord blood and they said that unfortunately the antibodies had transferred to her blood and she needed to be monitored as there was a chance of jaundice, reactions etc. we only had to stay in 24 hours to keep an eye on her jaundice and then allowed home! Was all good and it’s good they picked up on it as they can monitor and treat if needed. I was so worried when they told me but it was absolutely fine, hope this eases your worries.

YourMommaWasASnowblower · 19/04/2023 20:08

I am negative and my first baby was positive and I had a few falls during that pregnancy and extra anti-d injections as a result, so I was worried about my second pregnancy. My second pregnancy was more straightforward with no issues at all, I just had the scheduled anti-d injections and I fell during the second pregnancy twice too. Pregnancy seemed to make me clumsy!

toddlermum27 · 19/04/2023 20:15

I'm rhesus negative but so is my husband so no risks and I declined the anti D (they advise it regardless in case you're not being honest about who the father is but I knew it was definitely my rhesus negative husband!)

Lhdale · 19/04/2023 20:22

it’s a very common situation - about 15% people are rhesus negative. Just have the jabs when the MW says plus if you bleed and there won’t be an issue.

Ks86 · 19/04/2023 20:31

Hi I'm due to have to have blood test tomorrow to find out what blood type bubba is as I'm A negative I never had this with my other 3 this is new thing now apparently to see whether or not I will need anti D

Mrsjayy · 19/04/2023 20:36

My Gran lost 2 babies to Rhesus Disease and had a still birth. Take the Anti D it won't do any harm. I had it with.my second pregnant everything was fine.
