Hi,

Can anyone please help me try to make sense of this? I went for an early scan today thinking I was 8 weeks but was told 5w5d. My lmp was 10th Feb but cycles have always been about 35+ days long and not sure about the conception date. I had a positive test on 12th March which doesn't seem to make sense if I'm only 5 weeks. I'm wondering if I maybe ovulated late or if they measured wrong? HB was detected and going back for another scan next week to make sure its developing.
any help would be greatly appreciated as I'm starting to feel very stressed, thanks.

If they found a heartbeat that’s a very reassuring sign. Also, some people can get a positive pregnancy test something like 7 DPO (and with your irregular/ long cycles I would not be worried about the dates as much) also measurements can be just slightly inaccurate at this stage but just a mm is so much difference. I hope it goes well for you next week OP.

worryingalot · 07/04/2023 14:21

I’m in a similarish position but measuring more behind than you currently and have to go back in two weeks.

Gt1986 · 08/04/2023 12:49

@avotoastlover i am in exactly the same boat as you. I should be 8w1d, lmp also on 10th Feb! Cycles are between 30
-36 days. Went for a private scan this morning and I'm measuring at 6 weeks. B
There is a baby, and a heartbeat. I'm puzzled also 🤔

Skatrina33 · 13/01/2024 15:38

How did this work out ? This is me and I’m so scared 😟

Myhubbyisasweetheart · 13/01/2024 15:46

As long as their is a heartbeat please relax a little as it rules out a blighted ovum.

When the pregnancy is that early on the measurements are often surprisingly inaccurate, and suddenly snap into a more accurate time frame later on

I hate the early days of pregnancy too, but a heartbeat is the single most important thing to find - miscarriage rates drop significantly at that moment

Skatrina33 · 13/01/2024 15:53

I was supposed to be 7 weeks 5 days and measured 6 weeks 2 days and cardiac activity was detected 😩 but my doctor literally did not seem hopeful and just to come back in 2 weeks 🤷🏼‍♀️ I told her I was scared and she said I know - and left the room

Gt1986 · 13/01/2024 18:46

Hi both,

So mine was not a good story unfortunately. The baby stopped growing at 6 weeks so just after the scan. This was picked up at the 12 week dating scan, so was a missed miscarriage and I had to have medical management to end the pregnancy. This was in May.

I can now advise that I am currently 18 weeks pregnant, and touch wood all is going well.

If the outcome isn't good, don't blame yourself there was nothing you could do.

I hope this helps xx

Skatrina33 · 13/01/2024 19:06

How did this work out for you ?

Gt1986 · 13/01/2024 22:13

@Skatrina33 are you asking me? If so, it's in my response above yours.

Many thanks.

Skatrina33 · 13/01/2024 23:32

@avotoastlover how did this pregnancy work out

loulouhind · 14/01/2024 10:46

We had the same back in June. Went for a 7 week scan and baby was measuring more like 5 weeks but they found a heartbeat which is unusual before 6 weeks.

asked to go back two weeks later and baby was still behind, however she was certain she seen a heartbeat. Asked to go back a week later and no heartbeat and baby hadn’t grown at all.

hoping it works out for you and we read at the time that babies can measure behind and just grow behind throughout the pregnancy, so please don’t think the worst just yet x

glasshalffull0 · 14/01/2024 13:04

@Skatrina33 just so you hear a positive story- I should've been measuring 9 weeks when I went for my first private scan and I was only 7. However, it just so happened that I ovulated really late in the cycle I got pregnant. I'm now 16 weeks and I heard the baby's heartbeat for the first time the other day

Skatrina33 · 14/01/2024 13:09

Thank you so much I have a follow up us on the 25th I’m so scared

GemPear · 14/01/2024 17:27

Hi all,

I am pregnant with my rainbow baby after a loss in Oct. I thought I ovulated around 28th Nov to 2nd Dec. My periods are irregular so I don’t use that as a guideline.

I got a faint line on a pregnancy test the 14th Dec which progressed into a darker line as the days went on.

I thought today i was around 7 weeks 6 days pregnant. I’ve been for a private scan today and there is a gestation sac and a tiny bean measuring 5 weeks 2 days with no heart beat yet. I have been asked to go back in 2 weeks time, but this is a crippling wait.

I suppose what I’m asking has anyone ever experience this before? I was adamant I was around 8 weeks and how is it possible to get a positive pregnancy test just possibly 1 week post ovulation?

LollyBob123 · 24/01/2024 18:47

Hi there

please can I ask what happened with this? I had the same yesterday as I had slight spotting so we booked in for a same day scan, I was expecting to be around the 8w mark. Sonographer did a vaginal ultrasound and measured two yolk sacs with Fetus poles so I’m pregnant with twins but one is measuring 5w 5d the other 5w 3d.

i can only assume they’ve stopped growing as it seems so far out vs where I expected to be.

she said that everything looked as she would anticipate based on a scan of that gestation, and that she could see signs of implantation bleeding around the sacs which explained the light brown spotting, but didn’t understand how I could be measuring so far out.

im booked back in for a re-scan this weekend to check for growth but wondering how likely it really is that any growth is still happening

ThelastRolo20 · 24/01/2024 18:55

@LollyBob123 sorry you're going through this. It's so anxiety inducing.

I had this - measured 2 weeks behind, a follow up scan 2 weeks later showed no growth or HB (there had been a HB before). I had my surgical management yesterday.

I hope you have a different outcome as I know some people have, but unfortunately there is a chance that it won't work out ❤️

Wishing you all the best x

Skatrina33 · 24/01/2024 21:51

Found out yesterday there was no growth 💔 headed to hospital Friday for a procedure

Gt1986 · 25/01/2024 04:19

@ThelastRolo20 @Skatrina33 I am sorry to hear this, 😞 please look after yourselves and please do not think it was your fault this happened. Show yourself and your body some love ❤️

@GemPear @LollyBob123 wishing you luck at your follow up scans ❤️

GemPear · 25/01/2024 07:27

@Skatrina33 @ThelastRolo20 I’m sorry your going through this too.

Unfortunately I did miscarry (well am currently), which is my second one in a row 😢. Was hoping for positive news this time.

@LollyBob123 I really hope your scan goes well, I have literally everything crossed!!!

@Gt1986 thank you for your well wishes ladies 🤍 I am always here to chat. It’s been a hard week xx

Skatrina33 · 25/01/2024 13:18

I also had a miscarriage I am going in to a dnc tomorrow 💔 this is also my second one

ThelastRolo20 · 25/01/2024 14:08

@GemPear I'm so sorry, this is my second in a row too. Do you have any children? I have a just turned 2 year old who is keeping me distracted.

We're off on holiday in April so taking a pause until after then x

GemPear · 25/01/2024 14:23

Hi @ThelastRolo20 we sound in similar situations. I do, I have a 2 year old little boy as well! We are hitting the pause button for now as well and concentrating on house renovations depending on planning etc. it’s a crap time isn’t it xx

ThelastRolo20 · 25/01/2024 14:29

@GemPear how funny! How long are you thinking of pausing for? Exciting about house renovations - what are you doing? We've just had a utility built and a new kitchen fitted.

Next big task is to take down the very crap conservatory and rebuilding as a brick extension but we won't do that for 2-3 years

GemPear · 25/01/2024 14:33

@ThelastRolo20 isn’t that mad!

I’m not totally sure yet, I’m going see if anything come from this latest MC and then how far along the renovations are.

We are also knocking down the old conservatory to build a brick extension!
we are also ripping down all the interior walls and redesigning the inside of the bungalow. Then we are joining the bungalow with the garage to make a utility, open plan kitchen, diner all being well with mortgage rates etc.

How are you feeling since your last MC if you don’t mind me asking ? X

ThelastRolo20 · 25/01/2024 14:46

@GemPear that all sounds very exciting 🤩

I'm okay, I found the first MC harder, it was my 12 week scan when we found out and we'd had a positive early scan too. I ended up miscarrying naturally and it was all quite crap. I was desperate to get pregnant again and did the following month but an early scan at 7 weeks showed them measuring 2 weeks behind so I kind of knew, even though it wasn't confirmed until I was 10 weeks. Because of the scans I was prepared mentally and had surgery which is a different experience.

I think having two in quick succession has made the idea of having a break easier to take. It's hard as it means I'm unlikely to be pregnant by my due date of 28th April (the first due date which somehow feels more.poignant given the circumstances - second baby never even measured 6 weeks so feels very different. First baby got to 10 weeks).

I get annoyed when I think about where I should be - but then I can't control that. Realistically I'm going to be about 9-12 months behind where I wanted if the next pregnancy goes to plan but that's really not the end of the world. In the meantime I'm trying to do positive things for the next three months, take vitamins, exercise a bit, enjoy a couple of nights out 😊

How are you doing? X
