Talk about every stage of pregnancy, from early symptoms to preparing for birth.

I got my dates wrong, I’m 6+1, had a scan today due to low hcg level and no yolk sac was seen. Freaking out.

Any advice appreciated, I posted the other day saying I was anxious as we have done IVF and I got a positive test first time round. I went for a blood test to check hcg levels, and I’m at 1303 and apparently 6+1 weeks. They booked me for a scan today and only saw the gestational sac (measuring at around 5wks), no yolk sac or embryo. They said to prepare for the worst, but also that I could have just implanted late, so it isnt 100% a mmc. I’ve been referred to an EPU, but won’t be seen until Monday at the earliest now. Has anyone else had low hcg levels and no yolk sac or embryo at 6+1 and had a healthy pregnancy after?

Hello! I think it happens sometimes when the scan is done too early. Sometimes what you can have is a silent miscarriage. If you can look it up, there's a lot of information on the net. I just went through this last year. Due to spontaneous chromosomal abnormalities, the baby stops growing in the early weeks. But again, your tiny baby could just be hiding. I'm sure you'll be scheduled for another scan soon. Wishing you the best❤️

@LeeanneD11 I haven’t had the call from the EPU yet to arrange an appointment sadly. I hope they will get in contact tomorrow morning. I’m getting some cramping and had a tiny bit of spotting earlier so I’m doubting that there is going to be good news for me. I really hope your appointment goes well tomorrow xx

How far gone are you? I only saw a sac myself and they done my bloods for hcg levels but they want to rule out ectopic for me too I haven't had spotting just cramps xx

IVFfirsttimer91 · 02/04/2023 16:52

We did IVF and I’m supposed to be 6+3 today, they did say I could have implanted late and that might explain the small sac size, but my hcg level was a lot lower than they were expected 1303 so they aren’t hopeful that it’s just late implantation. What was your hcg level? Did your cramps start today too? Xx

My hcg levels was 3324 Wednesday and by Friday they was 7884 but I've been having cramping for a few weeks xx

Thats good news about your hcg level! I’ll keep everything crossed for you for tomorrow. I really hope you see what you want to see on that scan and that the cramps are just part of early pregnancy for you xx

They want to rule out ectopic . As they could only see the sac on my last scan on Wednesday so measuring around 4-5 weeks I think , these hcg levels confuse me loads lol 😂 I would ring up about yours and chase them xx

IVFfirsttimer91 · 02/04/2023 17:21

@LeeanneD11 im going to call them tomorrow if I don’t hear from them by midday. This weekend has been torture just having to sit and wait and knowing nothing for certain. I very much hope you get good news. And maybe I might get some good news of my own too, there’s always hope :). If I have to go for another egg transfer and do the whole two week wait again and pay another 3k I’m going to go insane. Especially as I’ll have to wait a few months before we can try again. Xx

The hcg levels confuse me too. Online there is such a huge variation in the appropriate level per week, it’s hard to know what’s right and what isn’t xx

Thank you , I hope it's good news for you too, I worked out that I should be 6 weeks + but according to the scan people I'm
Around 4-5 weeks and saw a small gestational sac but nothing else . This weekend has been torture for me too not knowing what's going on with my body xx

It’s really horrible, especially as I’ve still got all the other pregnancy symptoms going on and I’m testing positive on home tests. But it’s just the not knowing and agonising over every cramp and twinge. I’m cramping on both sides of my lower stomach, but they aren’t bad cramps like I get with my period. It’s infuriating and stressful and upsetting all at the same time, whilst trying to hold out hope and be positive that I’ve just got a slow burner growing in me and that in my next scan I’ll see something. Total mindfuck. Xx

I'm the same I've never experienced these kinds of things before but I'm testing positive still but all are getting faint . It's so wierd . It's confusing me so much . I can't work out anything lol 😂 it doesn't help I had the implant out just over a month ago . So my periods are irregular and all over the place lol . I'm pretty certain I ovulated around 28th feb but had implantation bleed 13-14th feb lol 😂 xx

It’s awful, im really sorry to hear you’re in the same boat as me! Im just trying to be as kind as possible to myself today and just prepare myself. Do let me know how you get on tomorrow. Will be sending good luck vibes your way xx

I had early scans in both my ivf pregnancies due to bleeding. As you know there's a lot less scope for dates to be wrong with ivf. I was advised that measuring up to 5 days behind expected was within the margin of error of measuring something as tiny as an embryo at the gestation. More than 5 days behind and they would be concerned.

It's not certain until you have two scans showing no/little development between them (or big bleed and nothing showing on the scan that has been there before) but I think you need to be prepared for the worst

OP this happened to me, I had to wait until I was between 7-8 weeks for another scan, and there was baby complete with heartbeat. It's a horrible limbo though. Hope all goes well.

I've been in this boat too. I had an ivf pregnancy, a scan at 6 and a bit weeks but it measured a full week behind. I went a week later and it had grown a little bit (but not a weeks worth) and had a heartbeat. They said it could go either way. Wasn't good news for me that time as a week later there was no heartbeat and it had only grown the tiniest bit.

I'm currently pregnant again but with superovulation (letrazole and a trigger) and again it's measuring a full week behind, which is still a worry, although less exact than ivf. It did grow exactly 8 days worth between scans 8 days apart, so there's still some hope for me.

I don't want to be all negative, but I think it could go either way, and I think it's good to be mentally prepared. I've had 4 losses and secondary infertility so I know how shitty it is. I hope epu get back to you. I think I'd call them earlier than noon. Or can you pay for a scan at your ivf clinic? I have mine all at a private recurrent miscarriage clinic - trying to see the epu where I live is near impossible and has to be a referral through a gp.

Dancemonkee · 02/04/2023 18:51

I didn't do IVF. But i had slight bleeding at what I thought was 6+3 I think. It was definitely over 6. They said I looked more like 5 weeks, booked me in for a week later. A week later it had caught up to where I thought. Try and remain optimistic if you can. X

seven201 · 03/04/2023 15:27

@IVFfirsttimer91 did the epu get back to you?

IVFfirsttimer91 · 03/04/2023 15:30

@seven201 they did, but unfortunately were not helpful at all. Due to protocol they will not scan me until two weeks after my previous scan and they will not do any blood tests. So I’m going to have a private scan on Thursday at my IVF clinic. It’s made working today so difficult as my head is all over the place. Thanks for checking in though :)
