Random question from a FTM, looking at a sweep next week as I'll be 40 weeks on Tuesday. What do you wear?!

havananana · 16/03/2023 09:37

Thank you @TeddyBeans !

I'm getting induced at 12, but my hospital is full, so being sent to another one. I'm just buzzing!!

Whatever you feel comfy in, I went in leggings and a jumper but you could easily wear a dress if you prefer. They'll give you a sheet to cover your modesty

@TeddyBeans thank you. I'll likely just wear leggings then. I'm assuming similar attire to a smear!

Nettlestea · 16/03/2023 10:16

Best of luck to everyone going in for inductions today, hope it goes smoothly and quickly for you all, let us know how you get on ❤️

Hrf1503 · 16/03/2023 10:22

requesting positive induction stories

Had my 40 week appointment yday and no signs of anything happening any time soon (cervix high and closed, baby not engaged, no braxton hicks/twinges/discharge I just feel normal). They want to book me in for an induction at 41+5… I really didn’t want to be induced I just wanted to wait it out but the longer I’m waiting the more I’m considering it (and apparently if I refuse they won’t let me on the MLU I have to be on Labour ward!)…. I’d be super grateful for any positive induction stories to help me make a decision 🙏

TeddyBeans · 16/03/2023 11:29

@Hrf1503 with my first induction I was in the same position as you, no sign of anything happening on it's own but had to happen because of preeclampsia. I had the pessary put in at midnight and had a lot of period type cramps overnight, cervix made it to 1cm by 6-7am ish. Didn't seem too positive but my waters went on their own about 3pm. Contractions ramped up and I was given diamorphine to help and was moved to delivery suite around 7pm. Because I'd asked for a water birth and they'd said no because baby needed constant monitoring, I opted for the epidural. They gave me the drip and let me dilate fully and then let baby descend naturally for 2 hours before I started pushing. I had to have a couple of top ups of fentanyl because I was a wuss with the pain from the drip. Bubs was born at 5.35 with a second degree tear and I was blissfully unaware. As inductions go it was really good and I was told so many times after that for a ftm, not having to have any other interventions was impressive so I felt really good about it all 😊

DD shot out like a rocket in comparison. Gel at midnight, contractions ramped up by half past and I was pushing by 1am. She was born at 1.25am, also second degree tear but I managed on just gas and air this time. There wasn't time for anything else 🤣

@Hrf1503 hopefully between now and the 12 day overdue mark things will might have kicked in for you. Replying just in case you are like me...I'm about to hit 42 weeks. I declined induction and have opted for section instead which is being booked in last minute....I'd really hoped to have gone spontaneously by now and with no sign of my body going into labour or cervix playing game I've chosen what I think (might be wrong!) is the better option giving how overdue I am.

Choc2022 · 16/03/2023 11:56

Was due to have induction today but its been delayed until tomorrow. Apparently I wasnt booked in on the list ( a little annoying). I suppose I can rest today as everything has now been sorted (cooking, cleaning) just annoying having been told and it being delayed - I know by only a day.

Rainbowbaby23 · 16/03/2023 11:56

this heartburn is enough to put me off ever having anymore babies. I havent slept all night because it’s so painful and making me throw up, tried gaviscon, rennies and even omeprazole and nothing is helping its making being overdue that bit more miserable 😩

havananana · 16/03/2023 13:58

I just had the pessary put in - my cervix is high and closed so it was super painful and uncomfortable, felt cramps too ugh. Deep breathing helped to get through it

Now having to lay down for 30min, then the waiting starts. I was told I can go to the cafe, have the ball or take a bath, and every 6h they will check on me and baby unless there's anything sooner than that

I've decided that if this does nothing in the 24h, I'll ask for a C-section rather than the 2nd pessary.

Rainbowbaby23 · 16/03/2023 14:49

Just after another VIGOROUS sweep and bloody show came away
now getting waves of period/back pains
was only 1cm though

BabyTalbot1 · 16/03/2023 15:34

Good luck to everyone who has started their delivery journey. I will be joining you on Monday!

I think the baby has moved today. I have a constant pressure in my bottom that makes me think I need to go to the toilet. Also baby moved whilst I was in Tesco and for the first time, I had pain in the bottom of my back, more or less on the spine. I really hope things progress naturally over the weekend to ease the induction on Monday.

@havananana I am considering just having the one pessary and if it is unsuccessful I will ask for a c-section. I have a gut feeling I will need a c-section anyway. I am back in the hospital tomorrow for a scan and monitoring so might ask a few questions then.

Choc2022 · 16/03/2023 16:11

@havananana you not doing the rods/dilaplan?

havananana · 16/03/2023 16:23

Choc2022 · 16/03/2023 16:11

@havananana you not doing the rods/dilaplan?

No, spoke to the midwives on arrival and changed my mind.
It's been 3h though and I've had 0 contractions or anything so far.

havananana · 16/03/2023 16:25

@BabyTalbot1 same! I just don't see the point if nothing happens.

Having a surgery doesn't scare me, and at least I would know I'm not going to have piles, episiotomy, incontinence etc.

They examine you every 6h, so will see then if maybe cervix has had any progress

Dreamingof3 · 16/03/2023 17:36

@havananana I'm definitely with you on opting for a section rather than a long drawn out induction that might end in a section anyway! Although saying that I've had 2 sections and looking like I'll be having a third and I'm so worried about it 😭

Rainbowbaby23 · 16/03/2023 19:55

Definitely been getting some contractions but arent that bad that I can’t talk through them, also seem too inconsistent

Due March 2023 - Thread 9
June628 · 16/03/2023 20:50

@Rainbowbaby23 have you called your hospital? Those seem quite regular! I was told to call them when I had 2 contractions in 10 mins.

Rainbowbaby23 · 16/03/2023 20:52

@June628 not het, they have stayed about the same consistency from about 3pm and so far are bearable at home. I would imagine they would tell me to stay home until they are unbearable or in an even pattern

LRiddles · 17/03/2023 01:59

Hi everyone! I’m new here but have been reading your posts and am excited for all the ladies with upcoming deliveries. Wishing you all luck!

My first baby, William, was born on 3rd March so I’m here as a very new first time mum looking for a bit of virtual company on the night feeds and in general. So far I’m loving it but am of course exhausted! We’ve settled into a bit more of a rhythm in the past few days but I still have moments of finding everything overwhelming and being consumed with worry about every little thing, especially a feeling of dread approaching night time (even though most nights have been fine)… anyone else experienced this?

Happy to answer anyone’s questions on a natural delivery with Ventouse/suction cup. I was 41+1 and went into labour a couple of hours after my first sweep.

Rainbowbaby23 · 17/03/2023 03:31

congratulations @LRiddles !!
how did you know when to go to hospital after your sweep? Im afraid of going to early and being sent home

LRiddles · 17/03/2023 04:45

Thanks @Rainbowbaby23! I was timing my contractions using the Freya app which flags up when you’ve reached 3 in 10 mins lasting 45 secs or more. Once this was happening regularly I called delivery suite and they offered to send out a midwife to my home to examine me rather than me going in only to be sent home again. She came out and I was only 2-3cm so she advised staying home as long as I could and I ended up going in a few hours later. Would definitely recommend that if they offer so you don’t go in too early!

Rainbowbaby23 · 17/03/2023 05:08

@LRiddles the app ive used has told me to go in for a while but I was only 1cm earlier today so going to try get a bath hopefully makes it bearable to sleep

havananana · 17/03/2023 05:13

I'm so annoyed, spent 15h with the pessary, 9h of nothing, then 6h in pain just to be told that my contractions actually are weak, no sleep, it messed with baby's heart for 3h, and then at 15h mark fell out in the loo!

There's not a doctor to prescribe me a new one yet, but I don't want a new one. Will push for section as it was too much for me and baby. 😩
