@havananana sounds promising fingers crossed🤞🏻

had another attempted sweep today, was only a fingertip dilated so couldn't do the sweep but she said my
cervix was really soft which is an improvement from lastweek! Think those evening primrose oil capsules work!

dmb91 · 14/03/2023 20:08

At what gestation can we have a sweep?

firstlittleone · 14/03/2023 20:18

@dmb91 as a FTM with no complications (toughwood) my midwife said she would only offer at 40 weeks

Saltandpepperr · 14/03/2023 20:21

@dmb91 it really does depend on hospital I'm FTM and had mine at 38 weeks (I had baby next morning after 1hr40min delivery so definitely worked for me.

dmb91 · 14/03/2023 20:51

Ohh hopefully I get a nice midwife tomorrow and she lets me have one then! It's my 38 week appointment, I'll be 38+2

iratepirate · 14/03/2023 20:56

They said they would offer a sweep at 41wks for me. But the next midwife I saw then asked whether I would prefer induction, and I said that if I made it to 41wks I definitely would. I was really hoping I wouldn’t get that far but it’s looking more and more likely. Two days to go. Unbelievably fed up.

dmb91 · 14/03/2023 20:59

My worst nightmare would be an induction, I'd rather go straight to c-section! Is that an option?

iratepirate · 14/03/2023 21:00

No idea but CS would be my worst nightmare tbh.

iratepirate · 14/03/2023 21:01

Given the low success rate of the sweeps I didn’t really see much point in extending things any further. They wouldn’t offer sweep any earlier.

dmb91 · 14/03/2023 21:03

I just wouldn't want to go through potentially days of induction just to end up with emcs anyway which the stats say is quite likely 😞 so I'll take any other option I can before induction!

Cats23 · 14/03/2023 21:18

@Clarps84 and @AGirlsNameIsAryaStark
Many congratulations to you both.x

havananana · 14/03/2023 21:24

Thank you @Rainbowbaby23 !

I declined sweeps too.

M

Rose429 · 14/03/2023 22:24

@dmb91 Yes I’d rather have a sweep first if that means avoiding induction as well. It’s unlikely your midwife will offer a sweep right then and there though.

I’m FTM low risk. My midwife said we’ll talk about sweep next appt at 40+2, then have it a week later at 40+9.

Rose429 · 14/03/2023 22:28

@havananana Sounds like your baby knows their time is up and show themselves before Thursday 😄 Good luck!

😄 thank you!

Will see what happened tonight and tomorrow! Exciting!

Choc2022 · 14/03/2023 22:52

@dmb91 why is induction the worst for you? (If you dont mind me asking)

@havananana exciting!!

LifeOfRiley1 · 15/03/2023 00:03

Congratulations to all the girls finally meeting their babies ❤️

I had my ELCS this morning and brought our little miss into the world, 8lbs 6 of absolute perfection! I absolutely loved my C Section and shouldn’t have been so worked up about it. For anyone booked in and feeling scared, please don’t be!! I’m the biggest wimp and if I can do it, anyone can. Happy to answer any questions people may have 🙂

Choc2022 · 15/03/2023 03:54

Random question - but did everyone set uo baby bedding before they went to the hospital or was the expectation that DP or someone else would do it whilst in hospital. I know its a trivial question but just wondering.

dmb91 · 15/03/2023 04:33

@Choc2022

If I make it to induction it’s likely I’ll be 41+5, knowing that I may have to be pregnant for another 24 days fills me with dread.
My initial fear with induction was the chances of instrumental delivery (specifically forceps) but we did the let’s talk birth and baby online course for induction and instrumental delivery which only made me fear induction more. Knowing it could take up to five days, I’d have to be in hospital, away from my partner, with strangers for such a long time sends my anxiety through the roof. On the flip side of that, I know of a few people lately who have overstimulated during induction, not been listened to and ended up with traumatically quick births.
I’m exhausted enough now, the thought of putting my body through induced labour AND an emergency section doesn’t appeal to me when I could just have a nice relaxed planned section instead.

We're putting the next to me crib up later today but won't put bedding on yet. DP will do it while I'm in hospital or I'll do it when we get home.

Suchardchoccy · 15/03/2023 05:00

@Rose429 @dmb91 I didn't have a sweep with my first I went into labour naturally but with my second a few weeks ago my midwife said she would discuss a sweep at my 40 week app and do it at 41 weeks but when I turned up for my 40 week app she offered it to me there and then. I was relieved because I was prepared to beg her to sweep me there and then I was so fed up 😂

Dreamingof3 · 15/03/2023 08:23

I'm having a sweep today at 39+3, I've accepted because it's the only form of 'induction' they'll offer as I've had 2 previous sections. Hopefully it helps 🤞

havananana · 15/03/2023 08:25

@dmb91 you can choose Dilapan induction which is non-hormonal so you can't overstimulate. Unless you mean overstimulation with the hormone drip once waters are already broken.

havananana · 15/03/2023 08:28

40+6, the bloody show either all happened yesterday or has stopped since last night. Only very light period ache remaining at the bottom of the belly.

I'm fine with that, at least I know my body is somewhat thinking about giving birth 😂
I'll use today to rest some more, have a nice long shower and get even more excited about the induction tomorrow 🤗

MrsD0147 · 15/03/2023 09:44

Yes @TeddyBeans they got me in a room for last few minutes and 3 pushes but he was already part out 🙈. Waters hadn’t gone so was as he was born!
