@LifeOfRiley1 thanks. Just to clarify I didn't fill 5 syringes in first sitting lol. Im managing half a syringe per night which I'm content with (ftm). Its quite time consuming and find works after a bath as my body is all 'warm' (I assume anyways). Can be quite therpeautic. I think I'll aim to fill the 5 and leave it at that.

@havananana ooh exciting. Let us know if you decide to go with the sweep. I'll have to decide on Monday (at 38 weeks and ftm) so unsure still

Rainbowbaby23 · 09/03/2023 11:34

Last scan and (hopefully) a sweep at 2pm today. Am i being a wimp if I ask for gas & air for it😂😂😂

Missy95 · 09/03/2023 11:43

Choc2022 · 09/03/2023 01:12

Congratulations on the new babies x

Those who have experience with colustrum harvesting/doing it now - how many syringes are you aiming for? Also how often are you 'pumping'? Started it last night but only have 5 syringes and wondering if worth ordering more

I started collecting colostrum at the weekend but ran out of syringes. I think I have about 9 at the mo and plan on picking more up from the midwife today. I want to try and collect as much as possible, ive found it easier and the flow to progress the more I have been trying. At first I struggled to get hardly any but its defo getting easier and I manage 3ml in one session. I've no idea how much to take to hosp or what to collect so just going to keep going as much as i can 🥰 xxx

Missy95 · 09/03/2023 11:46

Day 3 of period like pains, sharp, stabbing pains in my back, across stomach, down into my pelvis and into my legs. Comes in waves but no regular pattern and not an obvious cramp but my stomach does tighten sometimes. Probably just BH but reeeeally hoping it progresses 😅 37+5 today xxx

AGirlsNameIsAryaStark · 09/03/2023 12:27

Just coming for a rant...

I've been going into the hospital 3 times a week for the last few weeks for monitoring after my preeclampsia diagnosis, and i'm just getting more and more frustrated. Every time i go something else has progressed (urine protein up from +1 to +3, blood pressure still unstable even though i'm on tablets and had the dose increased, blood platelet levels now dropping) but no one seems to actually want to do anything about it.

Up until this week they kept saying they wouldn't consider induction until its safe to do at 37 weeks etc, well now i'm 37 weeks and all i keep getting is come back again in 2 days time for more monitoring! I don't feel unwell but i'm so swollen everywhere, but its starting to feel like i have to actually get seriously ill for anyone to do anything about it

JB2021 · 09/03/2023 13:48

@Blocklynn congrats! You were due just after me, I'm due 21st. Did you have any signs?

Hope you got to St Mary's

Dreamingof3 · 09/03/2023 14:22

Reduced movements again today so about to call the hospital to go in and get checked over. Feeling really tearful as I suspect that'll be my vbac out the window now

Dreamingof3 · 09/03/2023 14:28

That sounds awful 😅 obviously would rather be sure everything is ok with the baby but just generally feeling rubbish

Perexi · 09/03/2023 14:51

Erm so hospital called and due to the strike next week my c-section has been brought forward to Monday! Aaaargh

havananana · 09/03/2023 14:55

I declined the membrane sweep.

Waiting on the hospital to confirm which date between 16.-19.03 I'll go in for induction.
The midwife said an induction can take up to 4 days, and either will be with some hormone filled tampon (pessary I believe) or with some non-hormonal rod.

If things aren't going or if I'm contracting too quickly from the hormone and baby gets distressed, then we can opt for a section.

I feel much better now knowing baby will be out by latest 42 weeks🙌

Moonicorn · 09/03/2023 14:56

@AGirlsNameIsAryaStark i wouldn’t be happy with that! Have you spoken to a consultant? I would say I wouldn’t leave until I could speak to one.

@Dreamingof3 you’re doing the right thing. I understand your disappointment but the method of birth is just icing. The worst thing in labour is unpredictability in my opinion, so with at least with another CS you wouldn’t have that and know what to expect. Hope baby is ok in there!

@Perexi eeeek! All packed and ready?

AGirlsNameIsAryaStark · 09/03/2023 15:05

@Moonicorn when i was there last Wednesday they booked me a consultant appointment and said it should be for the week of the 13th, but then there weren't any available that week so it had been booked for the 22nd. Went back this week on Tuesday they said it needed to be brought forward as the 22nd is too late with everything going on now and they would send me another one but i'm still waiting.

Due to go back tomorrow and the midwives said if i still don't have the date tomorrow they will chase it up for me. I heard them talking amongst themselves about strikes next week which doesn't fill me with any hope it'll be any time soon!

Moonicorn · 09/03/2023 15:07

@Choc2022 I started 2 weeks ago now, I do 1ml from each boob twice a day so 4ml a day. Think I’ve got about 30ml in the freezer. Aiming for about 60ml to cover me until milk comes in, in case he won’t latch (like DD).

I’ll probably mix feed as the weeks go on, but I’m a big believer in colostrum for the first few days.

Rainbowbaby23 · 09/03/2023 15:12

Bum. Attempted sweep but cervix is completely closed shut:( cervix is short though, was hoping to get things going as I’m completely fed up now.
induction team will be in touch next week for another sweep and induction

Cats23 · 09/03/2023 15:13

@AGirlsNameIsAryaStark - That all sounds just so ridiculous , like passing the buck to whom ever will take your symptoms on and deal with action going forward, Keep nagging and insist on a consultant perhaps.

Exciting @Perexi .

@Dreamingof3 , hope all goes well, I got really upset at my last monotering a few weeks ago, I just felt like tge baby was safer out than in as it seems to be happening 1-2x a week.

havananana · 09/03/2023 15:44

About strikes / shortage of staff - I was told that I might have to wait 1-2 days if there's loads of labouring women and no free delivery suits or available midwives.
Hence the induced labour could potentially take the 2 days of pessaries and 2 days of waiting...
🥴

Choc2022 · 09/03/2023 16:11

@AGirlsNameIsAryaStark try not to worry. Try to maybe push to see someone sooner or same person consistently. The reality is that they are soo busy, each time I see someone (even if I saw them just a week before) I go through EVERYTHING again so that they're fully aware. Its a pain but I guess stretched service. If you are genuinely concerned healthwise maybe try triage?

Choc2022 · 09/03/2023 16:11

@Moonicorn 4lm a day??!! Wow I am impressed!!! I was thinking 6 syringes will be enough 😐

Blocklynn · 09/03/2023 17:18

@JB2021 we started off at St Mary’s, I was 7cm on arrival but then seemed to stall a bit.
They weren’t happy with madams heart rate and I was bleeding so we were blue light in an ambulance to Leicester Royal.
Got to the Royal at 9cm and baby back to back and was told not to push, my body wasn’t giving me much choice at that point 🙈
It wasn’t anything like my birth plan but was just glad to have her out and ok.

I’d had some mild period type pains on the Sunday then my waters started going at 2am Monday, contractions started about 4am I think. Went to St Mary’s to check it was my waters at 7am, then home again as not contracting enough, back to St Mary’s at 12.30pm. Little Miss was born at 7.13pm.

JB2021 · 09/03/2023 17:20

@Blocklynn glad all ok. Prob too early to say but how were/was St Mary's and being blue lighted. That's my concern still.

My birth plan I'm totally open with as don't want to get too fixed then be disappointed/upset if it has to change

Blocklynn · 09/03/2023 17:30

@JB2021 they were really nice while I was there. I got myself a little out of it on gas and air 🙈 so the first thing I knew about the ambulance was when it had arrived to transport me. They had been updating husband and trying to explain to me but I can’t really remember. The ambulance ride was ok and didn’t take long. It was worse for husband trying to follow through Leicester in rush hour.
The midwives at Royal have all been very nice too.

JB2021 · 09/03/2023 17:32

@Blocklynn thank you. That's a bit reassuring. At the open evening they said they try and give partners a head start driving but obv traffic/rush hour cant be helped (then you have to deal with parking!)

Moonicorn · 09/03/2023 17:35

Glad you’re both okay Blocklynn! Sounds very much like my friend’s experience at her MLU, she had forceps in the end. Labour is wildly unpredictable, particularly for first baby. Are you just waiting for the green light for feeding to be discharged? Remember hospitals have pumps if you need them (nobody offered me one and it didn’t occur to me to ask until about 2 days into my stay) xx

Blocklynn · 09/03/2023 18:00

@JB2021 he did set off first but then we passed him. Found a parking space, well sounded like he kinda dumped the car and was with me quickly. I was still on the gas and air so was ok. They took it off me in the end so I could focus on pushing 😂

@Moonicorn thankfully I didn’t need forceps but they did cut me.
We have had issues with her having a heart murmur when checked a few hours after birth but at the 24 hour check that had gone and then onto jaundice, which wasn’t bad enough to treat or good enough to go home so had to have several tests all 12 hours apart. Thankfully got the all clear on that earlier so we are hopefully being discharged today, I really want to go home!
Feeding has been harder than I expected. I am using nipple shields at the moment as had got really sore on one side and that is working well for us. My milk is definitely on its way as I have been dripping a bit today.

JB2021 · 09/03/2023 18:04

@Blocklynn thanks. Sounds like if blue lighted they "cope" well. Are you going back to St Mary's for feeding support?
