@Saltandpepperr I think I want to delay as long as possible. My sweeps booked for monday at midwife appointment and then induction on thurs. Id rather the sweep on Thurs - is that requestable/part of process.

Also for anyone who has had induction - what should I take to wear? I have a ragged knee length night dress that I was planning to wear during labour - with a view to throw it out afterwards but wondering if thats appropriate. Should I take more rhan one 'labour' outfit. Also should I be packing a dressing gown? I get quite hot and bothered.

Saltandpepperr · 07/03/2023 21:46

@Choc2022 I honestly would take the sweep. I understand why people decline induction because it has high rate of ending with intervention but sweep is much more natural. I had my sweep at 38 weeks 2pm on Thursday and my baby was in my arms by 6am the next morning I honestly don't think I would have gone into labour without having it because I had no symptoms before hand. It was pretty painless just very uncomfortable for a few seconds.

You're very lucky and definitely the minority in regards to success and lack of pain though

Whydotheyallhaverubbishwheels · 07/03/2023 22:18

@Dreamingof3 loveeee the blanket!

@Room4onemore congratulations!!

I'm 37+4 today and have really intense back pain but tends to be more on one side. Has anyone else had this? I did have a scan today as they wanted to check baby isn't breech (he's head down) and they didn't mention back to back so I'd assume it's not labour

Deut28 · 07/03/2023 22:21

@Choc2022 My induction with DC1 went on for 3 days in total. First few days with on-off contractions I just wore maternity leggings and T-shirts. Once in more established labour I wore a button up nightdress which was good because they want you to have continuous monitoring when on the drip, so could just unbutton around my belly. By the time I gave birth I was naked. Then opted for a hospital gown after delivery so the bleeding was someone else's laundry problem! Got my DH to bring in shorts for the postnatal ward because the heating was so high.

Well here’s my bags! My first induction took 5 days, hoping this one is a bit quicker…

Induction/labour bag:
1 change of clothes (leggings, t shirt, clean underwear)
1 pair of pyjamas
1 nightie for labour
Babygrow, vest, hat and nappy for the baby
Big fanny pad for me to put on after 😆
Towel
Wash bag
Flip flops for the showers
Medications
Phone charger
Kindle
Big bottle of lucozade, water bottle, flapjacks, dried apricots
Will also pack 5ish syringes of colostrum
My pregnancy pillow (hospital beds are so uncomfortable!)

Postnatal stay bag
1 pair pyjamas
2 vest tops
Big zip up hoodie
Change of clothes (leggings, long sleeve tee)
Spare pants, socks and bra
Pack of maternity/breast pads
6 babygrows and vests, 1 cardigan and fleece suit for baby
Pack of nappies
Pack of wipes
Sudocrem
More medication supplies
More drinks and snacks
Breast pump sterilised in a Tupperware box
Large muslin for swaddling/blanket
Will ask DH to bring in the rest of the colostrum (should be 20ml ish)

I’m a fan of over packing as last time the induction took so long I had used most of the supplies in my bag by the time I got to the labour room! Men are also useless at packing a bag ‘for you’, DH went home for spares and actually brought back a summer mini dress 😱

Rainbowbaby23 · 07/03/2023 23:14

I’ve completely freaked myself out thinking baby is now oblique with where i can feel his kicks and by where i can feel his bum/head and I have now googled (bad idea I know) and seen alot about cord prolapse and dont think I will relax until my appointment on Thursday lol

MoronikaFaceache · 07/03/2023 23:21

Hi all,
happy to announce DD2 was born at 40+6 in the early hours this morning Tues 7 March, 4:50am, weighing 3.5kg.
Had irregular low level cramping from Sun during the night that continued all day Mon. Tiny bits of mucus plug that morning. Mw was sure I’d be back in within 24hours. Cramps/contractions started getting more frequent/stronger Mon eve from 8:30pm. Timing contractions throughout the night but ramped up suddenly.
Got to birth centre at 3:20am, fully dilated, just ready to push, waters broke then!
No pain relief in the end😑
However, major blood loss and stitches, so feeling pretty battered.. but baby is perfect 🥰..looking forward to going home tomorrow..
Good luck to all those still to meet their little ones!

Shep21 · 08/03/2023 02:20

@MoronikaFaceache congratulations! Hope you and baby get home today and you start to feel a little less battered asap!

Shep21 · 08/03/2023 02:28

So after no signs of contractions from waters breaking on Monday AM, by 5pm contractions ramped up but were inconsistent. Held off going in until 9pm when the pain was becoming unbearable. So glad we did as within 90 minutes of arrival we had our gorgeous girl!

A super speedy arrival and a short stay in overnight and now we’re home starting our lives as a family! Baby Zara, weighing 7lb exactly on 6.3.23🥰💖

MoronikaFaceache · 08/03/2023 04:47

@Shep21 so happy for you, congrats! Yes we made it to hospital just in time too!

Room4onemore · 08/03/2023 04:53

Congrats, that’s 3 of us who had babies yesterday. Hope they are all doing well and going home soon

Choc2022 · 08/03/2023 05:42

Congratulations to all the new baby mama's!! Hope everything is well and you enjoy this newborn stage x

Love the blanket @Dreamingof3 well done for completing it!! Looks great. I did two lines of crocheting and forgot all about it.

Thanks for all the induction outfit advice, didn't realise that it could take 'days'. Were your partners with you the whole time or did you call them in later?

Obabybaby · 08/03/2023 07:49

@Perexi @LifeOfRiley1 is your planned sections booked for Wednesday when the junior doctors strikes are on? I have to see a consultant today to book mine in for next week and he’s already said it won’t be until atleast Thursday because of them (no inductions or planned sections can take place mon-wed) which is later than we’d hoped for but not much I can do! Just slightly panicking that when he goes to book me in there’s no space and it gets pushed back further

LifeOfRiley1 · 08/03/2023 08:02

@Obabybaby im in Scotland so I’m not sure that the junior doctor strikes affect us.. it’s certainly not been mentioned to me as being something that could possibly affect my section

Erm yeah I guess - it wasn't mentioned as a factor and the consultant offered up that date so we agreed! I'm in London so would assume that it would have been factored in and I'll be getting a more experienced doctor but good question that I will be asking the midwife today and the hospital when I go next week for bloods.

Perexi · 08/03/2023 08:28

@LifeOfRiley1 oh definitely I think it's natural and would probably be a bit strange if didn't have moment of worry!

It’s very much ‘how long is a piece of string’. Some women will have the pessary and be in labour a few hours later. If you’re sealed like a tomb then it can take 2 pessaries (which take 24 hours each) to get you dilated enough to pop your waters and put you on the drip. It’s faster the further along you are, early inductions (like 37-39 weeks) tend to take longer.

I would pack for 3 days to be on the safe side, hospital is very boring and it’s nice to at least have clean clothes, some snacks and a book.

DH didn’t stay with me during the induction, partners could hang about but were encouraged to go home until something happened. Induction wards often have quite a few ladies on them so I can understand not wanting men milling about until something kicks off!

This time DH is dropping me off, I’ll call him when it’s time to go to labour ward and he can come in then. Not much else for him to do in the meantime!

havananana · 08/03/2023 09:12

Congrats 🥳

What's the best app to track contractions?

Perexi · 08/03/2023 09:29

Congratulations on all the new arrivals yesterday 😍

havananana · 08/03/2023 09:30

Im 40 weeks tomorrow. Hoping to get an induction date, and will see if I go ahead with the stretch & sweep or not.

pamplemousse19 · 08/03/2023 09:33

Congratulations to all the new mamas who've had their babies in the past few days!

I'm 40 + 5 today with no sign of anything happening... I'm climbing the walls! Very impatient and just done with it all now.

Midwife tried to do a sweep yesterday but couldn't reach (?) so is going to try again tomorrow. Will book an induction for next week I think (was hoping for early next week but forgot about junior doctor strikes so that might not be an option...!) I don't really want an induction but there we go!

Same! My midwife said my induction would be between 16-19th (41 to 41+3 days), but I really hope baby comes before on her own

AK93 · 08/03/2023 10:17

Congratulations @MoronikaFaceache and @Shep21 ❤️ xxx

Has anyone gotten suddenly breathless when not doing much and feeling like their heart is racing at the same time? I've had this a couple of times over the past few days but didn't know if its usual or not? It feels horrible. Never had it with my son... I'm 37+6.

Yes, several times a day and have since about 32 weeks. It’s horrible! I can’t take a deep breath.
