@Rainbowbaby23 - Dc#2 was back to back, for me, I felt the contractions in back, I wont lie- It was painful - I went on to have dc 3 & 4 , who werent back to back and the difference was the contractions at front.
This baby is b2b....dreading it

Rainbowbaby23 · 07/03/2023 09:54

I am completely terrified!😂 FTM so nothing to compare it to, but I am a big wuss when it comes to pain

Missy95 · 07/03/2023 10:00

Morning all! I hope everyone is doing ok! So exciting to hear about all the lovely babies being born!

37+3 here and suddenly all of the lovely energy Ive had lately has disappeared 🙈
I've been so so busy the past few weeks 'nesting', I think my body is telling me to rest .. but I am halfway through decorating my hallway now! I need my energy back 🤣 xx

I'm scared of the stretch and sweep pain 😄
Although I don't find smear tests and vaginal ultrasound examinations painful, the thought of the midwife poking fingers around makes me shiver 😮‍💨😂

muminlndn · 07/03/2023 10:04

@Rainbowbaby23 my first was b2b also and it was painful, came in waves though as contractions. It was more painful when I sat down & especially when I tried to lie down. Counter pressure like a back massage really helped (I screamed at my husband/midwife not to stop 😬).
In early labour even if not 4cm dilated yet you can request to be admitted to be given pain relief if you need it - I was put in a spare bed on the antenatal ward with gas & air for a few hours until I could go up to labour ward at 3.5cm and get an epidural.
Would also advise to avoid any sweeps while in labour as it can speed things up/strengthen contractions and ideally you want time for baby to turn before they come out - that's my opinion anyway but maybe something to check at the time. Make sure the midwives assessing you know baby is b2b!

Rainbowbaby23 · 07/03/2023 10:06

@havananana also scared of sweeps😂

@muminlndn at my hospital they won’t admit you unless you are 4cm, or unless you keep coming back and back in pain when id much rather them just admit me ASAP. That’s why induction sounds better to me as id already potentially be in the hospital 😂 I want that epidural asap

muminlndn · 07/03/2023 10:34

@Rainbowbaby23 I think any hospital if you are clearly in intolerable pain will do their best to accommodate, the 4cm threshold is the general policy but there are always a few exceptions. The midwife in triage commented how strong my contractions were so I think maybe they knew it wouldn't be long until I hit the 4cm threshold, or maybe I got lucky with a spare bed on antenatal. But don't be afraid to kick up a fuss if your contractions feel very strong, regular and you really need pain relief above paracetamol! Intolerable pain is a reason to be in hospital on it's own, not just in connection with labour.

Rainbowbaby23 · 07/03/2023 10:40

@muminlndn thankyou:) hopefully im as lucky to get a bed when I want one, although I know the wards are really busy at the minute!

Cats23 · 07/03/2023 10:45

@Rainbowbaby23 If it helps, I was able to use just gas and air and I didnt want anyone touching my back but everyone is different and you could easily find that its nkt as bad as anticipated ( Dc1 was a csect as v.prem , so dc 2 was my first experience of labour really)

LifeOfRiley1 · 07/03/2023 10:48

Has anyone gone through a bit of a wobble? I’m 38 weeks today, have c section booked for next week. Today is my last day at work and my head is a wreck! I’m panicking about not having work to focus on for the next week as I’m worried I’ll end up just getting myself into a panic about the section if I’m sitting around doing nothing. And I’m already pretty apprehensive about this as it is! I feel like I’m losing my sh*t

Rainbowbaby23 · 07/03/2023 11:00

@Cats23 ahh thankyou!! That makes me feel a bit better

I've been on Mat leave for nearly a week now and it's been the best time - sleeping more, reading, catching up on Netflix, ticking things off of life admin to do list, etc
It goes so quick!

I would focus on the positives - you know when your baby is coming, it's going to be in a very controlled way, you won't have to worry about tearing or episiotomy, or struggle with peeing or incontincence, etc
Obviously there are downsides to a section too, but at least you know it's a planned one!

Yes! I had my wobble on Sunday. I was due to finish work on 31st March, but Tuesday last week I was told to stop working. So I left on the day - it threw me and has taken nearly a week to feel somewhat okay about it all. We find out on the 13th if I am being induced or having a C-section. Feel like I am in limbo of not having a plan.

Rose429 · 07/03/2023 11:22

38W today and I don’t feel like this pregnancy is coming to an end soon 😂

Baby has been in the same position for the last 6 weeks albeit head down but no desire to move. I have had no Braxton hicks, loose bowel, leaky nipples nothing! Occasionally tired and fanny daggers, but I can still bend down and put my trousers on standing on one leg (I know, humbled bragging haha). The increasingly angry purple stretch marks is probably the only thing that bothers me so much being pregnant 😂

Cats23 · 07/03/2023 11:31

Its my last day today, Im looking firward to it- I might be induced Thursday or the week following so today is a good day as potentially just a day to sort out the last of housework !
However @Rainbowbaby23 , Im watching call the midwife and the nurse has just gone into labour with her first dc, baby is back to back!! 🤦‍♀️

Rainbowbaby23 · 07/03/2023 11:34

@Cats23 I love call the midwife! Havent watched it recently as was beginning to scare the crap out of me😂😂😂

I'm still working till Friday but have a section booked for nx Wednesday and I keep having little freak outs. I've never really had an operation let alone one I'm awake for so I'm a bit worried about what I'll hear/feel etc. I know it's the safest option for us but yeah kinda panicking a far bit.

Afternoon ladies!

Well nesting is in full swing here. Just cleared and cleaned the fridge, binned a load of old jars lurking at the back 🤢 and this afternoon’s project will be the cupboards.

Tomorrow will be the master bedroom and setting up the nursery area, I need to banish my bedside drawers to the spare room to make space for the crib and baby’s storage unit which is arriving this afternoon.

Thursday doing a couple of batch cooks and throwing out any freezer food which has had its day.

Planning to take DD on a day out somewhere this weekend as it will be our last as a family of 3!

Next week I have zero planned bar changing all the bedding, having a few takeaways and keeping DD off nursery on Thursday so we can spend the day together before I go into hospital. Scan is Tuesday, I’ll be a bit nervous until then as I don’t yet know whether he’s of a size where I’m happy to attempt an induction or whether I would be happier with a c-section. DH has no opinion on the matter and says I should just do what I want, but you know when you want someone to bounce it all off, it’s a really annoying attitude!

Off to take doggo for an afternoon run (her not me 😆), trying to stay on my feet as much as I can as when I sit down I just freeze up then it’s agony getting back up again.

10 days to go 🤞🏻

@LifeOfRiley1 I’m in a kind of pragmatic, calm mood at the moment and I’m hoping it carries through to delivery - if my first baby is anything to go by my mental dips seem to be the first trimester and up to about 20 weeks, then I have a good second and third trimester, then back to being emotional and low just after the birth. You’re not losing your shit!! Do you have anything planned to distract you this coming week or more of a chilled one?

Moonicorn · 07/03/2023 12:24

And I agree with @havananana

Having done vaginal birth it… wasn’t what I expected. I don’t remember a lot of it to be honest, midwives/doctors in and out of the room, they kept doing tests to make sure the baby’s oxygen was okay as her heart rate dipped. All in all it was quite stressful but also raced by and wasn’t the earth mothery experience I expected. The tea and toast after while cuddling DD was the highlight and we will all get that either way Grin

I didn’t have incontinence luckily but I did have the most awful painful fissure and piles which took weeks to go. I thought I was going to pass out on the toilet at times, worse than labour 😬 plus a very sore episiotomy which meant I could only crawl and not walk for the week or so after the birth. Not funny when you’ve got your bloody wider family over and they’re expecting you to look all glowing and delighted and ready to welcome them 🙄

Ups and downs to everything, I would prefer a vaginal as it’s familiar and limits damage to one place, but the safety of the baby is my main aim and the rest is just icing.

havananana · 07/03/2023 13:04

Is anyone declining a stretch and sweep?

I had said yes for Thursday at 40 weeks, but all I read on MN is that it's extremely painful and not resultative.

Looked at all these Cons on multiple NHS sites and this recent research, and now thinking of potentially declining it.
Only 15% success rate, but so many risks and even a 9% risk of accidentally breaking the waters.

Sorry if this is TMI.. I’m 37+1 and my discharge has really ramped up the last couple of days still very clear/light in colour so I don’t think it’s my mucus plug. Is this normal?
i also woke this morning around 5am with pain from the bottom of my back radiating down my legs and round my stomach it was pretty constant then went to every 10 minutes then stopped after an hour .. assuming this was braxton hicks?
FTM and I don’t want to rely on google cause that tells me baby will be here tomorrow 😂

Pickles23 · 07/03/2023 13:54

@havananana I'm 40 weeks today and my midwife said she'd offer me a sweep at my next appointment (meant to be tomorrow but she's ill so has been postponed to Sunday), but I was always going to say no. They don't sound great and I'd much rather let my body do its thing naturally if I can (might change my mind next week!)
Other than more Braxton Hicks I haven't had any signs of going into labour anytime soon, so I'm just going to keep moving and hoping for the best!

Happy due date! I'm leaning towards the same,
Letting my body start the process or just the induction of still nothing around 16th

Saltandpepperr · 07/03/2023 14:17

@firstlittleone my discharge was exactly like you described for a week before waters broke. I had pain in my side also but think it was round ligament pain as nothing like my contractions.

Clarps84 · 07/03/2023 14:23

I’m 40+6 today and just had my sweep about an hour ago. At this point I will try anything to get things started 😂 I’ve had no signs of labour apart from braxton hicks ramping up.

If you’re not sure whether to have a sweep or not, I can only comment on my experience today and that is that I didn’t find it painful at all, very uncomfortable but not painful. Pretty much like having a smear but went on for a bit longer. All in all, I was in and out of my appointment in 30 mins.
