@Moonicorn Thank you for helping. Do you collect the watery thirst quenching bit or wipe that away and continue squeezing?

Moonicorn · 06/03/2023 15:39

I wipe it away usually with a cotton pad. I find it takes a few minutes to get going, but once it does it does and it gets darker and darker. Make sure your hands (and boobs!) are nice and warm, I put on a podcast so I’m nice and relaxed.

BabyTalbot1 · 06/03/2023 16:02

@Moonicorn I will persevere and try again tomorrow whilst laying in the bath 😊

Choc2022 · 06/03/2023 16:02

@Moonicorn are you 37 weeks?

Im 37.4 weeks, gestational diabetes since December (soon after 20 week mark) which was diet controlled up until 3 weeks ago. Now im on metformin.

Baby weight is 3.5kg at 37.4 and off the chart, previously 90th/97th centile. Im only 5foot so thats why big baby for me, may not be classified as big as someone taller. Babys abdomen is measuring large.

Also I thought the sweep was at 38 weeks but will be 38.4 - 4 days before 39 week mark which isnt too bad - I thought it was earlier but really I hadn't realised how close to due date I was.

At what point did you start colustrum harvesting? Do you think if I was to start but then stop it could cause issues? Ive ordered 5 syringes.

Moonicorn · 06/03/2023 16:10

I’m 35+3. Induction booked for 37+0 as my diabetes is type 1. I’m 5’9 though - I didn’t know they took mother’s height into account in any way? My baby was 5lb6 at 32+4 😬 I’ve decided if the growth scan on the 14th puts him at over 8.5lb I’m asking for a c-section. DD was vaginal but she was 6lb and didnt have a large abdomen like this one. The issue isn’t just the weight, it’s the difference between head and abdomen - if a smaller head is delivered the abdomen can get stuck. Apparently if there’s 2.5cm+ difference between the 2 measurements you’re at much higher risk.

Sorry if you’ve already said this a thousand times my memory is terrible but is this your first? It’s your legal right to have a caesarean if you have a form of diabetes and a baby measuring bigger (not saying that’s what you should do but might be helpful if you’re considering it!).

I started harvesting at 34 weeks - I figured at only 3 weeks before eviction date it would be fine to start then. Currently expressing about 4ml a day, very handy for diabetes babies as they can be prone to low blood sugar just after birth and need that quick hit. I don’t think starting and stopping would cause issues, none I can think of anyway Smile

Deut28 · 06/03/2023 17:10

I think everyone's individual 'normal' for colostrum can look a bit different. If you look at photos there's a huge range from almost orange to white. This is mine.

You can definitely start and stop. With DC1 I just did a bit to make sure I knew how to hand express easily (which was really handy) but didn't store any. Second time around I'm finding it much easier, faster, and producing more.

havananana · 06/03/2023 17:15

I tried to massage colostrum our but only a minuscule clear drop appeared.

Choc2022 · 06/03/2023 17:39

@Moonicorn yeah first baby. Yeah I read into the difference in head and abdomen size and freaked myself out. The DR didnt seem too concerned (but really how much time do they get to fully understand patients). They've mentioned the height thing to me a few times 'baby's big for you, for your size' but no one else I've spoken to have ever had it mentioned. Ill look into c section vs induction pros and cons.

Ooh im going to start to try and harvest from today but I dont think ill be too disheartened if I am unable to as I know its not for everyone.

Moonicorn · 06/03/2023 18:05

@Choc2022 i don’t want to bombard you with unwanted information but I have amassed a few good studies/journals on giving birth to bigger babies so let me know if you would like me to send them at any point!

And don’t be disheartened! It’s no indicator of your milk supply. Some people produce early, others don’t - it’s random.

Choc2022 · 06/03/2023 18:23

Oooh yes please do send my way. I like to research as much as I can, and still stay undecided lol

ChristmasJumpers · 06/03/2023 18:27

Cats23 · 06/03/2023 15:18

@ChristmasJumpers Ive had to have the anti D as presented bleeding ( though as said bleeding was pink and minimal) Im considered hig risk though and I am rhesus negative.

On way home, all fine, determined a Poss uti or thrush so given meds.

Ohhh that makes sense, hopefully all is well after the meds with the uti/thrush. I'm also rhesus negative but baby is too so I avoided the anti d jab

Dreamingof3 · 06/03/2023 19:02

I finally finished my blanket today! It's literally taken me the whole pregnancy but I'm so glad I've actually made something usable!

ToffeeEl · 06/03/2023 19:05

I've not managed any colostrum, after over week of trying. Think Ill give up now as I think the frustration isn't helping

ToffeeEl · 06/03/2023 19:06

@Dreamingof3 love that!

Saltandpepperr · 06/03/2023 19:10

@Moonicorn yes I get more teary in the evening. Its horrible and I keep thinking in my head something bad is going to happen I'm so anxious even though he was fine when he was born.

I'm so glad I delivered at 38 weeks I never had any growth scans only had my bump measured once and he was 8.4lb. Would have been interesting if he went overdue!

ToffeeEl · 06/03/2023 19:17

Would you say these are just braxton hicks?

They've been like this since about this time yesterday, which I've not experienced before(usually just a couple through the day), and are much stronger but don't feel like "cramps". I have had a lot of pressure with them in my bum, and they are making me wince.

The lack of pattern is throwing me off!

Full moon tomorrow! Wonder how many babies will be born😉

Dreamingof3 · 06/03/2023 20:28

I'm not too sure, they don't seem to be getting closer together or longer, which is what we're told to look out for. I'd keep timing them and see what happens, if you get particularly uncomfortable with it maybe just call the hosp and see what they think

Moonicorn · 06/03/2023 22:19

Sorry my PMs don’t work, every time I start a new sentence in a message it sends 😳 anyway here is one and I’ll dig out the others tomorrow if that’s ok as I’m 💤 and off to bed!

Marfs10 · 06/03/2023 22:22

Thanks for this! I’m going to have to learn to be a bit assertive I think. As for 4 days of MIL - no thank you!!! 😂

Marfs10 · 06/03/2023 22:24

Sorry, forgot to tag @Dreamingof3 🤦🏻‍♀️ above!

Blondewave · 07/03/2023 00:29

havananana · 06/03/2023 13:31

Had a hormonal teary wobble today.

I love growing our baby, however, I cannot wait to feel like myself again.
It almost feels like me and baby both live in this body that's a shell of what it used to be.

I can't get out of bed without huffing and puffing, my stomach is covered in bright red stretch marks, my ankles are swollen and no rings fit me. Walking more than 30min is not possible and my back aches so much.

If you have already gone through pregnancy before, how long did it take to regain your health and fitness and feel like yourself again?

I felt just like you - had baby 3 days ago plus c section (first time having a c sec so I’m not a pro) but literally within first day I felt more like myself. My older son said I looked ‘healthy’ again which is mad seeing as I’m sleep deprived, postnatal and recovering from major surgery.

however honestly I feel better 3 days postnatal than I did end of preggo. Hang on in there. I promise it will be worth it. I cried looking at my baby today as he’s just so perfect and I felt bad that I complained through my pregnancy as he’s worth every second 👶🏼💙😁

In desperate need of some help advice….

im 37 weeks and so unbearably uncomfortable. My bump is solid pretty much 24/7, sleep is virtually impossible, got carpal tunnel in both wrists and I’m so fed up.

is it normal for my bump to be so hard it’s almost painful? Like it takes my breath away sometimes but it’s not like it’s actually contracting if that makes sense?

Mine was like this for about 2/3 weeks so so painful and solid like a bowling ball. I had a planned elective in end and they had to pull him out of my pelvis with forceps when they went in via my abdomen as he was all ready to go 😭😂 so I was dilating and didn’t realise hahah. They say you can be In slow labour for weeeks don’t be disheartened tho as it clearly does something.

Rainbowbaby23 · 07/03/2023 00:37

I’m not actually sure what signs to look out for it comes to labour. My baby is back to back so apparently I’m more likely to feel everything in my back rather than in the front and it can be a constant pain rather than coming and going? How would I know the difference between normal pregnancy back pain if b2b labour back pain😅

havananana · 07/03/2023 09:44

@Rainbowbaby23 I've been told by my midwife the main things to look out are breaking/leaking amniotic fluid and contractions (3x45sec within 10min period)
