Hello all, today we had our 20week scan, we told the two ladies that we didn't want to know the gender keeping it a surprise, they started at babies feet then told us as they were moving up they told us to look away and they kind of laughed and said ah like they had saw it just seemed obvious that its a boy very noticeable (i cant remember what they said but it definitely sounded obvious) later into the scan my husband thought he heard them say 'he' i know its very common for sonographers to say he or she sometimes without baby being that gender, im a bit upset as I feel it isn't a surprise anymore my husband is like its not 100% but im like I just know 🙈😂
here is our scan photos do you think boy or girl now i think I want to know for sure its a boy cause I feel like I do anyway if you get me :) x

With my son they referred to him as a boy throughout the scan but told me in advance they do this.

With my daughter I told them I didn't want to know. Then I asked if they knew and could tell and they laughed and said it was obvious. I was so sure it was a boy but turns out I was wrong.

So, I wouldn't read too much into it

@ratherbthedevil thank you for replying, its when they both kinda laughed and muttered something moving towards the genital area after looking at babies feet I was thinking its obvious you see a nub straight away it stands out more of you get what I mean 😇 tbh from the 12 week scan symptoms and my little low bump I did think boy anyway but still nice to have a surprise 😂🙊x

We had the exact same thing. I cried all the way home as I wanted a surprise but when baby arrived it was the opposite of what I thought the slip up revealed.

2kidmum · 01/02/2023 20:29

@MummaLeonax they was probably laughing at he/she having its legs wide open, im having a girl and my sonographer laughed because she was literally feet in the air 😅

MummaLeonax · 01/02/2023 20:32

@freezingpompoms it just feels like the surprise has gone, gosh wow I bet it was a shock when baby arrived then hehe 🙊 to me I just think them laughing and muttering it seems like yeah there it is noticeable nub 😂 x

I was 100% sure I saw the typical"hamburger"at the 20 week scan for Dc4. He's a boy 😂

MummaLeonax · 01/02/2023 20:33

@2kidmum tbh I wish I just said now is it a boy 😂 x

You could start a new thread with the title: 'any sonographers here to look a this scan photo?'

You can be reassured that it doesn't show anything. Or put your mind at rest?

MummaLeonax · 01/02/2023 21:21

that is a good idea I feel like I want to know now to see if I was right about them making it obvious its a boy it sounds petty as I did want it to be a surprise but my gut feeling is on the go 😂x

My first baby’s scan- we wanted to know- the professionals and my husband both went “oooh” at the same time, it was the potty shot of a girl.
I don’t think they’ve given anything away tbh

Ifyoudreamofsanddunes · 01/02/2023 21:26

It was probably a reaction to baby having their legs wide open making it super easy!! Don't overthink it! We didn't want to find out and near the end of the scan the sonographer said 'there's her spine'. I was so upset, i wanted to find out at the birth. Both sets of grandparents bought dresses. We were convinced it was a girl. He was the biggest 11lb baby boy I'd ever seen!!!

I’ve had 3 very small, very low neat bumps with my 3 previous pregnancies OP and I have a girl and 2 boys so do try not to read too much into any old wives tales. They were identical pregnancies too in terms of symptoms etc and sweet cravings every time.
I know it’s easier said than done but do try to put it out of your mind. If you do want to know though, book another scan.

MummaLeonax · 01/02/2023 21:36

@OnlyFoolsnMothers yeah I get what you mean I think its because im thinking well a nub is more noticeable than baby girls parts :) x

@Ifyoudreamofsanddunes bless what a surprise that was! brilliant this made me chuckle thank you 🙊🤗x

Hevviie · 01/02/2023 21:38

Were you hoping for a girl?

MummaLeonax · 01/02/2023 21:42

@ratherbthedevil yes thats exactly what I seem to do read the wives tales 😂 and then im like well i had the same symptoms with my son so its a boy 😂 I will be bloody shocked if a girl honestly after all this reading and then thinking the professionals may have pointed out the obvious x

OP posts:
MummaLeonax · 01/02/2023 21:49

@Hevviie I knew someone would ask this question as it sounds like I was 🙈😂 im just upset about it seeming like it's not a surprise now, with my first my mum came and she got told what baby was going to be, they said to her 'can you not see it' when they were showing her where to look so I was thinking in my head well a nub its more noticeable to me anyway.. so again I felt like I knew it was a boy and when we done the balloon reveal it was a boy :) id be the same if a girl its just about the surprise of not knowing x

LoveBluey · 01/02/2023 21:49

I've had 2 girls, during the scan of the first one they pointed out how they could tell it was a girl (three lines) and then during the scan on my second pregnancy I spotted the lines immediately and they confirmed it was another girl. It was really obvious to me it was a girl so I don't think their comment means it is necessarily a boy.

Wouldn't the absence of a nub be as obvious as a nub?

MummaLeonax · 01/02/2023 21:54

@LoveBluey yeah I get where you're coming from to be honest like I've said the the other mums i think it's because im thinking to my self seeing a nub is noticeable cause it sticks out a bit x

OP posts:
Hevviie · 01/02/2023 21:55

I think give it a few days and see how you feel, the scan pics aren't the right angle so I don't think anyone here could tell you either way. If you feel like not knowing is stressing you out then I would see if you can ask the midwives, I'm sure they would have made a note. If you still feel like you want a surprise then try to stop overthinking their reaction because it literally could have been for any reason 😊 either way congratulations! Don't let it dampen your pregnancy x

Ruffpuff · 01/02/2023 21:55

I don’t think they’d shout ‘oh’ more at a male foetus’s genitals than a female’s tbh. The baby probably just flashed them, whatever sex it is.

MummaLeonax · 01/02/2023 21:57

@ancientgran very true point there, then im thinking but would they laugh at it not being a nub, I dunno im overthinking to much into it 😂x

So there you have it. Assumed. Cried. Got it wrong.

I don't think they do make notes on the sex. I think I read that on mn once.
