Brown discharge along with backache 8 weeks pregnant

Hi everyone, just here looking for some advice. I'm really worried as I had a miscarriage about a year ago I already have a 7year old which that pregnancy went so smoothly. Recently just found out I'm pregnant again, I'm around 8 weeks and started getting brown discharge yesterday and again today, I am actually thinking the worst but still have that little bit hope. I also started getting backache when the bleeding started yesterday but it has calmed down.
Has anyone else experienced this and it turned out to be ok? It's so hard when we're just left to deal with this situation having to see if the bleeding stops or not.

I had this with both my pregnancies which both ended up healthy. The discharge lasted a week and was light brown to very dark brown.

I went to the doctor when it first happened and she gently told me that it is very common and it’s likely to mean nothing but in some cases it can be an early sign that something is wrong, but there was no point in going for a scan as whatever is going to happen will happen so best to wait it out.

I found early pregnancy so stressful and I was so anxious until the first scan. With my second baby I booked an early scan at 8 weeks which helped.

Will, it happened to me and that baby is now in her twenties!
Bleeding in pregnancy does not always end in a miscarriage.
Can you arrange a scan?
I hope thinks work out well for you. It's always worrying. Have you still got pregnancy symptoms?

Thanks so much for your reassurance. My first miscarriage started with red bloody so it's happened different this time but I did have a lot of what I'm having now that time around which makes me worry. Mines exactly that, seems to only be when I wipe watery brown, quite abit dark then seems to just go back to watery.
Yeah I've been told the same thing and to basically ride it out. That's so true I was trying for a scan but obviously there could be a heartbeat one day and not the next so they put it so it's best to wait.
I'm exactly the same. So pleased everything tuned out ok for you.

So pleased to hear that. That is what I'm hoping 🙏 I think I'm more worried about the bleeding because of the last miscarriage to be honest. They've basically told me to wait to see if the bleeding stops first as there could be a heartbeat one day and not the next. Thanks so much. Yeah I've only really had sore boobs so far and feeling bloated and I still feel both 🙏

Aw this gives me so much hope 🙏. Yeah my first miscarriage started with red blood then turned brown. It's so stressful.

Thank you so much ♥️

That's good, @Tyler2015 Please update us if you get a chance.

I’ve got my fingers crossed for you. I found the wait agonising and just couldn’t think of anything else. Maybe book yourself in for a reassurance scan if you can afford it in the next few days. I did one around 8 weeks and once you see a heartbeat at that stage your likelihood of miscarriage shoots down to around 1% (from 1 in 5) so that really reduced my anxiety

mewkins · 31/01/2023 19:31

I had one miscarriage which started with discharge and got gradually heavier. Then I had a straightforward pregnancy (dd is now almost a teenager). Then I got pregnant some years later and had the heaviest bleeding for a week. Oddly though once it stopped I still felt pregnant and sure enough my ds (now 8) was holding on I there. I've no idea what happened but I realised that all you can do is wait and see (and keep fingers crossed) xxxx

Thanks so much. We're totally considering this as I've got what seems abit more than the last couple of days of brown and a ache in my lower tummy. Which would be completely normal if it wasn't for the bleeding making me think otherwise. X

Yeah I feel mine is abit heavier today but still brown 🙏. I still feel pregnant so far I just hope it stays that way.
Thank you so much! Xxx

I'm okay thanks so much for asking, I've had more brown discharge again today, so I called the midwife and she's got me booked in for a scan 16:30 tomorrow.
I just hope everything is ok 🙏

I had brown bleeding and pains around the same time. Very worrying but all was fine. Good luck, hope all is well.

I had brown bleeding and terrible backache like what I get whilst on my period from 5-8 weeks, they put me on progesterone at the early pregnancy unit which stopped the bleeding and I'm now 24 weeks. Good luck op xx

StillWantingADog · 02/02/2023 08:37

I had lots of light brown discharge in my pregnancies
MW told me it was likely nothing to worry about unless it turned red (it didn’t)

in a scan much later in pregnancy they found something which they said was the source of the bleeding. Can’t remember what it was called. But it had healed by the next scan and wasn’t harmful to the baby I was told.

I hope I have the same outcome at my scan this afternoon. So stressful.
So glad everything turned out well for you and hope you continue to have a stress free pregnancy 🤰 xx

So glad everything turned out okay for you, I've came across a few things that can make you bleed just hoping I have something similar and the baby is ok.

My midwife said the same thing, I dread going to the loo, It seems to be getting abit heavier last night and today but still brown so there is still hope.

Ps. Do not get a dog they're like having another child 🤣

Had a scan today the baby is measuring 8 weeks 6 days and we seen the little heartbeat, such a relief ♥️. They couldn't find where the discharge is coming from but apparently it's not coming from the womb and the baby is in the right place also the cervix looked fine. Sadly they're still treating it as a threatened miscarriage. I just pray the bleeding stops 🙏.

Thank you so much for asking x

I'm very glad you saw the heartbeat!
