My first two were 8lb 9 and 8lb 5… so I’m going 8lb 7!!

Do use think it looks like my bump is maybe starting to drop?😂 so excited for my scan next Thursday to see how big bubs is!!

Very similar to my bump, how far along are you? I think as baby gets heavier it sort of ‘weighs down’ more so higher bumps tend to look a little lower as the traits trimester goes on.

AGirlsNameIsAryaStark · 26/01/2023 10:07

I've got the first growth scan on Friday so once we've got an idea how much baby might weigh i'll sort out clothes sizes, although i'm an overpacker so i'll probably end up with a bit of everything just in case!

Rainbowbaby23 · 26/01/2023 10:52

@Cuppasoupmonster im 33+2!:)

Cuppasoupmonster · 26/01/2023 11:11

I’ve packed one bag for the labour room, one for a couple of days stay after, and another for a few days after that. Last time I packed one bit sports bag for everything and it was a nightmare, dirty things getting mixed up with clean and the bag was just a mess by the end. This way I’m hoping that won’t happen and if we end up staying in a bit longer DH can just switch the bags when he visits and take the dirty stuff home with him.

Hope I’m not teaching you to suck eggs but you can often end up with a longer stay if baby is born at 38 weeks or less because they’re prone to jaundice and this can take a few days under the UV to sort out, plus they like to keep you in for a few days after a CS/instrumental to keep an eye on you particularly as a FTM. If you have bfing problems you also might need to stay an extra couple of days as they don’t discharge you until the baby is feeding well. All of this happened to me 😂

@Cuppasoupmonster im 33+2!:)

Eek I’m 30 tomorrow, but feel much bigger this time! 7 to go 🤞🏻

Rainbowbaby23 · 26/01/2023 11:23

This is my first so I’m expecting to go over unfortunately 😂 so 7ish for me too!!

Bobduncan · 26/01/2023 11:23

@allthingssparkly I like the spanx mama nursing bra (it's on sale at Asos at the moment). It's more like a sports bra so probably best if you are smaller up top like me 😃

Deut28 · 26/01/2023 11:30

Last time I had separate bags for me, baby and DH. This time I'm using packing cubes inside one bag to separate everything. Figured it's easier to move between rooms in the hospital.

On the UV point, I'd recommend packing an eye mask in your hospital bag. My DC1 didn't have jaundice but another baby on the postnatal ward did and the room was lit up blue all night!

I found the breastfeeding support in hospital to be a really mixed bag, having chosen to stay overnight after birth to get the support. Different staff giving contradictory advice and waiting hours in-between to be seen. Ended up being discharged 'against medical advice' (they can't force you to stay) and with some scary warnings from a not very helpful midwife about dehydration and readmission. Our first day at home, the community midwife came round, was unhurried, and gave brilliant advice with compassion. Babies often have a sleepy 24 hours after birth and then feed like mad on day 2. I also found it so much easier when in my own space after a little bit of rest. We had no problems feeding from then on but I think they would have kept coming out to us if we needed it. This time I'll be running (waddling) out the door of the hospital as soon as humanly possible!

Rainbowbaby23 · 26/01/2023 12:27

I’ve recently gotten new pain on the inside of my thighs and it goes all the way down almost to almost my knees. Does this sound like spd? I have a number for physio I think ill maybe give them a call

havanamama · 26/01/2023 12:47

I'm 34 weeks today, feels like a nice milestone as from now on preterm counts as late preterm I believe. ☺️

Same sort of place I have burning pain but lower down - mine is on that ‘line’ though but in the groin. Ow! 🙁 I tried to close my bottom wardrobe drawer with my foot the other day and OMG white hot pain!

Cuppasoupmonster · 26/01/2023 12:50

Yes agreed! They seem to think babies should latch on moments after being born and have a long feed, but they’re knackered! My plan is simply to syringe some colostrum into is mouth then let both of us have a kip.

Franklin321 · 26/01/2023 12:53

Yes my son was super sleepy for the first night/day after birth and barely fed/was just asleep! The second night however…😵😵😵🤣

Rainbowbaby23 · 26/01/2023 12:59

@Cuppasoupmonster its awful! Especially when trying to walk down the stairs, think I’ll just try to avoid them😂

havanamama · 26/01/2023 13:15

This might be a niche question, but is anyone already raising or planning to raise a bilingual child?
If so, what method did you use? One parent one language or did you have a "family language" as well?

allthingssparkly · 26/01/2023 13:26

I will have a look at those @Thirdtimesacharm3 thank you and @Bobduncan I will have a look on asos at the one you mentioned 😊😊

GreenIsle · 26/01/2023 13:37

Feeding bras - honestly have a look on Amazon I got some from last pregnancy and they are still going strong I've been wearing them already at 34 weeks because they are so comfy and hold me up well, just check reviews.

So I went to the new hospital yesterday, it didn't get off to a great start because it really felt like a cattle market (other hospital felt like it was private so sad they aren't do delivery's at the moment). I was also there for 2 hours mostly waiting about. They said that although the last hospital said I needed a growth scan again that they would disagree and think that the fundal height was done wrong. So my measurements are a little bit all over the place but they said the current ones correct Hmm

Talking about the UV has brought back some memories of last time with DS he was under the lamp for 3 days he was so bloody yellow were he was prem it just wouldn't go but turns out he actually had meningitis and that's why he couldn't fight it off. He had a little mask on it was so cute we called him our little superhero!

Cuppasoupmonster · 26/01/2023 14:02

Oh I have a similar photo @Babynum2 ! Gosh meningitis that’s scary did he recover okay?

@GreenIsle i can’t quite make the chart out, has there been a drop in growth?

Babynum2 · 26/01/2023 14:06

@Cuppasoupmonster yes he's completely fine now it took a long recovery we was in hospital until he was 6 weeks old but he's a little fighter. 4 years old now and so smart! He was born at 34 weeks it's amazing what they go through they are a lot stronger than we think!

ChristmasJumpers · 26/01/2023 14:32

So much going on on here today, I'm just catching up now!
It's looking like I'll have to stay in for 24 hours minimum after having baby due to my GD. Does anyone know why this is? Are they wanting to keep an eye on me or baby (or both)? I had grand plans of getting out of hospital ASAP so long as we were both healthy and well.

Cuppasoupmonster · 26/01/2023 14:41

@ChristmasJumpers baby’s blood sugars. They can drop after birth and need to be monitored for a full 24 hours to ensure they can maintain them themselves. My babies have the same as I’m type 1!

Cuppasoupmonster · 26/01/2023 14:44

For what it’s worth in my NCT group, a lot of the women who were discharged within hours struggled when they got home - it can be pretty handy having the maternity care assistants there to help, establish feeding etc, for a couple of days. Although my 10 days definitely dragged towards the end…

iratepirate · 26/01/2023 14:49

I am hoping not to have to stay in at all this time.
Thankfully all v straightforward last time; we were home working 12hrs of going in.
Keeping my fingers crossed.
