We also got a 2nd hand Moses basket and purchased a new mattress for downstairs and a snuzpod for upstairs.

Out of interest, does anyone have any experience with Hypnobirthing? Did it work for you?

Dreamingof3 · 02/02/2023 10:20

@Choc2022 I get full brief (high waisted) in a size or 2 bigger. Mostly because I've previously had c sections so you then don't want anything that will sit in the area of the scar...but also I just find them really comfortable 🤣

@havanamama we've got a Joie swing chair to keep the baby out of the way of the other two playing 🤣 but also will probably just use the pram, or if she's anything like my last one she'll just be held all the time anyway

I've been having period type pains the last few days and feel really uncomfortable 😬 not looking forward to another 6 weeks of this

havanamama · 02/02/2023 10:34

Thank you all for your answers - lots of dockatot/nest users I see!

We have a Chicco Next To Me Forever upstairs that will be used from 0-5 years, first year in our bedroom.

I think we will try the pram bassinet
Downstairs first, as it's essentially like a Moses basket anyways, but up to 6 months. If it's too big, maybe I would invest in a Dockatot, but they are not safe for unsupervised sleep.

Basically trying to find something I'm confident in putting the baby in whilst make food or go to the toilet when home alone and downstairs.

havanamama · 02/02/2023 10:35

Our baby is now 35 weeks!! I'm so excited for her to come so soon 🥰

TeddyBeans · 02/02/2023 10:40

I have many pictures of DS asleep on the floor. They get tired so quickly that sometimes they just fall asleep where they are 🥰 we used the pushchair downstairs otherwise. We live in a flat now (was at my parents for the first 10 months of DS's life) so will probably just take the mattress out of the cot and put it on the living room floor during the day if she's happy to be put down for naps at any point in the first 6 months 😂

@Dreamingof3 The period type cramps are awful aren't they 😬 I've just been in the bath to try and get some relief and I had a couple whilst in there, not fun 🙄 the last few weeks can sometimes feel like they're going on forever!* *

I'm sooo tired too, but can't get comfortable to sleep 😴

Babynum2 · 02/02/2023 10:48

@allthingssparkly I ended up in the bath at 5am this morning because of this round ligament pain I have in my left side (self diagnosed). I hope it's gone now it was so painful I didn't sleep because of it and then had to get up and do school and nursery run the joys of pregnancy.

Dreamingof3 · 02/02/2023 10:50

@allthingssparkly I'm just hoping they're a good sign as I've never laboured spontaneously before! Not very fun though, sat with my hot water bottle today feeling sorry for myself

allthingssparkly · 02/02/2023 10:59

Oh no @Babynum2 😢 I hope it eases for you 🙏 x

@Dreamingof3 I haven't laboured spontaneously either 😬 so I feel I'm constantly on edge, wondering what's happening! How many weeks are you now? X

Dreamingof3 · 02/02/2023 11:07

@allthingssparkly 33+4 so plenty of time to go still 😵‍💫

I didn’t do any hypnobirthing first time round, I considered it this time but to be honest I just haven’t had time. I’ve heard good things about it though!

Bobduncan · 02/02/2023 11:11

@Splashh I have watched a couple of hypnobirthing videos and the breathing techniques look interesting. I'll definitely try those out. I also like understanding the biology (such as the hormones involved, how the uterus contracts etc.) There's other stuff I found a bit meh such as not using the word contraction as it's a negative word, and also apparently not being able to feel pain if you do it properly which sounds a bit questionable to me? I guess some of it may work for you and some of it might not!

allthingssparkly · 02/02/2023 11:16

Sending lots of luck to you @Dreamingof3 🤞

ChristmasJumpers · 02/02/2023 11:30

I am trying to work through hypnobirthing videos but struggling to find the time to watch them and properly take it all in. I like the practical aspects like learning exactly why your body does what it does during labour, so you can focus on the reason for the pain rather than the pain itself (hopefully)

I'm with PP though in that I'm not scared of the word "contraction" and they put a lot of emphasis on changing your language around birth. That bit just confuses me, and I don't find it necessary!

muminlndn · 02/02/2023 12:20

RE daytime sleep, last time I had a snuzpod so could bring the bassinet part to the livingroom but to be honest as a lot of people have said in the first weeks/months baby liked contact naps and didn't sleep/slept badly in bassinet.

I had a carrier wrap, this time I've also got a newborn ergo carrier, and you get used to making food, going to the toilet etc. with a baby strapped to you. Showering you tend to need someone with you unless you can shower after they're put to bed/before they're up for day.

Everything actually got easier when the amount of sleep reduced, and baby can sit in a bouncer or something in the bathroom while you shower and get on with stuff.

I'm basically planning for contact naps - and if I want to try to put her down it will most likely be in order for me to also nap so I can do that in the bedside crib anyway!

Deut28 · 02/02/2023 12:41

I found hypnobirthing really useful and did the Positive Birthing Company online course. Not particularly fussed by the positive affirmations/surge language, but the stuff about creating an environment you feel comfortable in was really great, especially in early labour when I was alone because of Covid restrictions at the time. Also the BRAIN decision-making process they set out (Benefits, Risks, Alternatives, Intuition, Nothing) was incredibly helpful to me when going through induction. Understanding how your body and hormones respond during labour was really interesting (although was also covered in the NHS antenatal classes).

havanamama · 02/02/2023 13:18

I've done a hypnobirthing course but as I meditate, it was nothing new really.

Eastybaby19 · 02/02/2023 14:13

We have this for downstairs. Had one for my son & honestly the best invention ever! Can wheel it from room to room can be strapped in tilts forward, (few different tilt settings) lies back and also turns Into a high chair! Honestly was the best baby product we ever had 🙌

What is it called and for what age is it suitable?

We have Maxi Cosi Kori for awake day time and night time Chicco Next To Me Forever, so just looking for something that's for day time living room sleeping

muminlndn · 02/02/2023 14:36

PSA boots now have buy one get one half price on all the mothercare baby clothes, especially good value for the plain white vests/sleepsuits.

beatingheartbaby · 02/02/2023 14:39

Back in maternity assessment so really think I need to pack my bag as soon as I get home as baby never plays ball when we are here 😂 she's all in my right side hiding behind the placenta, they said to me can you not feel her she's moving like crazy, I can literally feel nothing!

Eastybaby19 · 02/02/2023 15:00

@havanamama it's called a Chicco Baby hug 4n1, u can get ones 2nd hand as they are pricey enough but I highly highly recommend them. It says 0-36 months. We Absoloutely loved it for our son and was the first thing we purchased again after we found out we were pregnant.

allthingssparkly · 02/02/2023 15:12

@muminlndn will check boots out, thank for this - still looking for a few more sleepsuits for baby boy.

@beatingheartbaby keep us posted, how many weeks are you? hope all goes well x

beatingheartbaby · 02/02/2023 15:22

@allthingssparkly I'm 34+2 , just been told because I can't feel her moving I need to stay in overnight, because once we are home the only way we have to tell baby is ok is movement they aren't happy for me to go if I can't feel her. Even tho she is fine 😩

allthingssparkly · 02/02/2023 15:23

oh no 😢 @beatingheartbaby at least they can keep a closer eye on you and baby. I'm sure you will be home before you know it x
