My little boy was 8 and a half lbs so quite big but luckily I had taken newborn into the hospital as that’s what he was in at first. I actually had some of the next ones called first size which is smaller than newborn I think and he fitted into that for a few days before he stretched out. I’m having my second and think 0-3 will definitely be too big this time so I’m just going to take a variety of newborn sizes. So many shops are so different

hellosunshineagainxxx · 18/01/2023 18:54

8lb8oz didn't fit into newborn sleepsuits though because he was super long! We took newborn and up to 1 month into hospital which was a good job :)

Twotolove · 18/01/2023 18:56

Both mine over 8lb boys went straight into up 1 month size or up to 10lb size.

Butwhytho · 18/01/2023 18:57

9lb8 and long, I didn’t bother with anything newborn and I only had one or two up to 1 month sleepsuits that were gifts. He was mostly in 0-3 from the word go.

CastleTower · 18/01/2023 19:00

I think it's length rather than weight. Mine was 9lb 10 but did wear newborn size for a few weeks. Massive head and tummy, rather than long!

fairgame84 · 18/01/2023 19:01

6lb 11oz and newborn was too big so was in first size for the 1st 2-3 weeks.

RicciardoPerez · 18/01/2023 19:01

5lbs and even the up to 5lbs premature range at next and George were too big. Little one is now 13m and only just going into 9-12m clothing.

J1290 · 18/01/2023 19:07

7lb 1 and 7lb 3
both far too little for upto 10lb (1mth)
so got upto 7.5lb lasted about a week so only got a couple
iv bought both sizes again

MyBloodyMaryneedsmoreTabasco · 18/01/2023 19:10

5 1/2 pounds but with positional talipes so effectively had no length past her bottom - she was in Tiny Baby size with empty legs.

4thonthe4th · 18/01/2023 19:11

7lb 8oz, 7lb 3oz & 7lb. All in newborn / first size for about 2 months.

allgoodthings84 · 18/01/2023 19:12

6lb 12oz and at first was in tiny baby. She was estimated to be bigger at a growth scan so we only had newborn and her dad had to go out and buy some tiny baby size

allgoodthings84 · 18/01/2023 19:13

Ah just seen you asked for people who have just had a baby. Mine was 7.5 years ago 🤦‍♀️

20viona · 18/01/2023 19:16

5lb 3oz for both my girls. In tiny baby for 6 weeks.

Oh really newborn fitted, my 1st was 9lb 14 so I took newborn and family members had to rush out and get 0-3 🤣 my 2nd was 8lb 1 and I can't remember what he was in so I'm going by around 8lb baby size x

5lbs 12 and in tiny baby until she was around 10weeks i think (she lost a lot of weight due to being very poorly at birth and took a while to catch up)

I've always found M&S sizing to be more generous so you could go for some from there to treat as 'in between' sizes.

BCxx · 18/01/2023 19:50

@Laujade88x oh wow, maybe you’re expecting a big baby then 😂 maybe up to 1 month is a safe bet and have an emergency 0-3 there. I had a big in the car of every possible size up to about a year old I think 🤣

user147283190 · 18/01/2023 20:02

8lb 10 baby and she fit perfectly into 0-1 month/ first size sleepsuits (which is up to 9/10lbs) when she was born. I didn't bother buying anything in 'newborn' size luckily. All her clothes were 0-3 months and she wore those straight away with some growing room.
Just check the weight guide on what you buy as different shops call them different things!

Laujade88x · 18/01/2023 20:03

@BCxx my 1st was 10 days over hence she was so big and my 2nd he was born at 39weeks so gona guess around 8lb as this one will be at 39weeks too, I have most of my stuff 0-3 as don't want to get to much in smaller sizes as don't last 5 mins and never know how big they're actually gona be, iv just ordered a few sleepsuits etc upto 1 month to so me while in hospital then once I'm out someone can pop and get me more once we know

Both under 8lb but were in first size for at least 4 weeks. If you haven't bought any yet I'd just buy one pack of first born and 0-3 and take both in the hospital bag. Partner or mum can then go get more on arrival

SunshineClouds1 · 18/01/2023 20:13

7lb and was in tiny baby for a couple of weeks.

simplesimply · 18/01/2023 20:22

My daughter was 7lbs and wore newborn for 3 weeks and then up to one month until she was 5 or 6 weeks. At the moment she's 3.5 months and is almost outgrowing the 3-6 months clothing, her body is long and legs are short.
Each brand runs slightly different at the beginning I had 1 pack of 3 andM&S babygros and a pack from Tesco and the Tesco ones ran significantly smaller than the M&S. however I also noticed that the M&S ones shrank more after washing.

justwantobeamum · 18/01/2023 20:29

7lbs 5 and only next first size (up to 7.7lbs I think?!) was the best fit. Most other shops newborn was quite big so we went next first size, then newborn, then up to 1month then 0-3. I don’t think he was in 0-3 till 2/3 months.

TheHopefulMum · 18/01/2023 20:30

DC1 was 6lb 8oz and was in tiny baby clothes for a few months.

DC2 was 7lb 7oz and in tiny baby clothes and newborn / first size.

DC3 was 7lb 2oz and was in tiny baby for about 3 weeks before moving on to newborn and first aid. At almost 4 months she's still only 12lb and in up to 3 month sizes.

From experience and not being prepared with DC1 I'd definitely recommend getting a few tiny baby outfits ready.

Also worth noting we aren't overly tall!

BluIsTheColour · 18/01/2023 21:34

8lb fitted into newborn with room and first size which is a bit smaller. The smaller ones she was out of but the end of the week and not long after into upto 1 month sizing. She went in to 0-3 at about 6weeks.

Second was 6lb13 and fitted in to same sizes but the smaller ones were a better fit for longer. She didn't go into upto 1 month until around 4weeks and then 0-3 was at about 8/9weeks.

PointyMcguire · 18/01/2023 22:52

DD was born weighing 6lb 8oz and tiny baby size swamped her. 2wks later she’s weighing in at 7lb 2oz and is wearing a mix of newborn and up to 1 month.
