Hey all,

Now I know Mumsnet can be a judgmental place, but even when people are judgmental, I actually think reading other opinions are really important.

I'm getting the whooping cough vaccine today (27 weeks ) and im just worried, I can't find anything to show any evidence of baby being harmed from this. But has anyone had any issues with it in regards to your pregnancy? Do people recommend this vaccine?

@Milkand2sugarsplease yeah I had it done as I read some stories and looked at some research! Sore arm today, nothing more!

I’m glad you have asked this question as I was thinking the same thing. There will always be people who have fallen foul to the divide and conquer that the government have so perfectly created, so you will get pointless comments and ‘anti vax’ comments alike, which quite frankly are boring and unhelpful. It’s good to see people on here who have commented with their experience rather than their opinions on vaccinations as they are most helpful. I am not an ‘Anti Vaxer’ but I am aware of the side effects that these vaccines can have, and it’s reason enough to want to question what we are putting in our bodies or our babies bodies, it’s quite reasonable and responsible to actually think for oneself, rather than be brainwashed by it all and just ‘do what you are told to do because they are right and nothing else could possibly be right’ Anyone who questions a vaccine MUST be a crazy anti-vaxer right!?… My god.
My Nan died from the covid vaccine along with two other friends who also died from adverse effects of the vaccine and both my friends died horrific deaths. I will not and will never get that vaccine, fact!
Does that make me an anti-vaxer, no. It makes me not want to go anywhere near said vaccine, obviously.

A lady I used to work for who is 23 had an adverse reaction the the MMR vaccine when she was a toddler and is now completely disabled, severely autistic and epileptic, it totally messed her up when she was a baby and she was born a perfectly healthy baby at that, does that make me an anti-vaxer, no, it makes me very cautious as to whether I’d vaccinate my baby with said vaccine.
After reading a few things on the whooping cough vaccine, I think I will get it as long as I am not allergic to any of the ingredients, I am medically exempt from the covid vaccine due to it possibly killing me too, what with the cocktail of ingredients in them and I suffer with anaphylactic shocks. So yes, I’ll do some more research and weigh out what the pros and cons are and risk factors of each vaccine, and decide from there. And that’s about it really, it about what’s doing best for you and your baby, weighing out the risks from both sides, and doing what you think is best all round.
I hope you’ve managed to come up with a happy solution 🙏🏽

@Wolfiefan anti Vaxxer? I've had all of my jabs apart from the COVID and flu vaccines so yeah I am totally against them.

I'm pregnant for the first time with concerns, valid concerns too. I have every right to ask others opinions without speaking directly to the midwife about it.

Why did you ask for opinions and then jump on @Wolfiefan for giving one, OP?

@Lnaomiw Excellently put.

I’m not keen on this one size fits all approach and I now approach vaccinations with caution.

I’m fully vaxxed against Covid, I’ve had my whooping cough vaccination in this pregnancy, but I, nor my children will be having the flu jab/spray.

I really deplore the narrative that you must be a “raving lunatic anti vaxxer” because you weigh up the pros and cons, make informed decisions for yourself and don’t just blindly follow the NHS guidelines.

I personally know, and am related to some anti vaxxers - Unfortunately they do come across as as uneducated lunatics and wouldn’t sway anyone with their arguments. They just shout and say really off the scale things.

I think there’s a middle ground and we shouldn’t just tar everyone with the same brush.

People are very unfortunate knowing 3 people who have died from the COVID vaccine. It must be a real cluster of unfortunate people. No balance it, I know of noone who has died from the vaccine or even had anything more than a sore arm. On the other hand, I know of 5 people who died from COVID before vaccines, and none since. All anecdotal of course, but statistics back this up.

bakewellbride · 25/09/2023 13:00

Please just get the vaccine op.

MrsSkylerWhite · 25/09/2023 13:02

Yes, please do get it. I had whooping cough as a young child in the 60s and was isolated in hospital for 3 weeks.

mummato1xo · 25/09/2023 13:19

Omg I've already had it 😂 this is months old

MrsSkylerWhite · 25/09/2023 13:20

Of good!

all was well?

Bellabellabelle86 · 25/09/2023 13:28

This is why there are measles outbreaks in 2023 in a "modern developed" country. Uneducated, conspiracy theorists who have no media literacy or ability to read/understand peer reviewed scientific research.

Daveismyhero · 25/09/2023 13:43

I had my whooping cough vaccine last Friday (I'm 27 weeks) and everything has been absolutely fine. Nurse explained to me that it provides baby with the antibodies for the first few weeks after birth so they are protected until they get their actual vaccines
