What's the temperature?

Winterfellismyhome · 14/01/2023 22:33

I turned mine off, made me paranoid. Just felt baby's chest and back to get a feel of their temp

kd1992 · 14/01/2023 22:34

Does it not say the temperature?
Just make sure baby is in correct clothes and tog/blankets for the temp of the room. Mine flashes blue at the moment but dressed DD for this. From what I've read a cooler room safer than a hot one
:)

14.6 I’m genuinely panicking he’s due next week and I cannot have him if it’s freezing… it’s making me feel sick that it’s colder…

Does it feel like 14.6? I got rid of mine; i had a baby in a heatwave, the angry red face was doing me no favours when we were literally down to one light muslin as a blanket, a nappy, a fan and windows open!

Mumof1andacat · 14/01/2023 23:05

I got rid of mine. You will know if baby is too hot/ cold

Strawberriesandcreammm · 14/01/2023 23:06

My partner said it feels cold in here, but I just wear a nightdress at night I don’t really feel ‘cold.’ But I don’t know if that’s just pregnancy! In my spare room it had a smiley face and said 16 but in our room it’s 14.6 with a sad face and it’s making me paranoid about making him ill or anything worse..

I have one ready for when baby arrives soon - currently says 17 something and is yellow. Does your room feel cold? Are you concerned it's not showing the right temperature?

Strawberriesandcreammm · 14/01/2023 23:09

baby is due next week and it’s turned blue, in a smaller room it’s ideal temperature but in our bedroom which is much bigger it’s blue… I’m just concerned on the temperature in general and the fact the heating has been on a hour and it’s only budged a couple of degrees…😭

OP posts:
IWillBeWaxingAnOwl · 14/01/2023 23:12

All it tells you is the temperature in the room. I like it as it's helping me prep for what we will need for our room - this doesn't mean your baby can't sleep in your room! It just means they might need a sleeping bag and a sleepsuit on under it! People have babies in v cold places all the time.

BabyMomma2021 · 14/01/2023 23:16

Try not to worry. I always feel better if the room is slightly colder as baby is less likely to overheat. They get warm in their sleep. When they are hear you'll be able to see how they feel and dress them accordingly

Strawberriesandcreammm · 14/01/2023 23:16

That’s what my partner said he said babys are born in worse conditions than a temperature of 14.6 I think I’m just overly stressed as it’s nearly time for him to be here. My friend mentioned to me it’s dangerous and that he wouldn’t be able to sleep in a cold room so I feel like a absolute failure that I should of checked this sooner.. my plan was sleepsuits and a sleep bag etc but now it’s stuck in my head that it’s dangerous for him and she mentioned SIDS which I’ve been in tears over

OP posts:
Strawberriesandcreammm · 14/01/2023 23:18

It’s increased the smallest amount with the heating on, I’m now currently sweating as for me it’s too warm I end up kicking the covers off without the heating on normally… I’ve just ordered some black out blinds as apparently that’s a good thing to have?

If baby seems cold you put another layer on, if they seem hot you take a layer off.

If the Gro Egg is stressing you out, put it away. People have babies in all kinds of climates and always have done, so it will be fine.

Irishgirl55 · 14/01/2023 23:24

Your friend should not have worried you like that... the gro egg I found to be a nightmare. Always had the room as too cold, but it was always a considerably lower temp than both my monitors that had a temp reading in them.

Just try and follow the guidelines on dressing baby in the correct clothing and you can adjust that as you get to know baby and how he feels as he sleeps!

You will do great...

BCxx · 14/01/2023 23:45

I think it’s quite dramatic! I only used it when he was a newborn and I’d try and open windows etc before closing them again before he went in if it was showing red or use it loosely to guide me with what he was wearing to bed but on the whole I’d say take it with a pinch of salt, you very quickly get to know how warm or cold they are when you go to pick them up and can feel/see if they’ve been roasting or not

rickandmorts · 15/01/2023 00:18

I had my baby in December during that really cold snap and the bloody gro egg was always blue, I was so stressed! I'm 5 weeks in now and a lot more relaxed. The bastard thing is blue as we speak but DD is plenty warm enough in her vest, baby gro and sleeping bag plus we co sleep so she gets some warmth off me. The blue light is a pretty handy nightlight for when I'm feeding her!

purpleme12 · 15/01/2023 00:29

Well I loved mine. It was often blue in winter but I loved it because I knew what clothes to put her in if I knew the temperature.
She's 9 now and I've still got it 🤣

Strawberriesandcreammm · 15/01/2023 09:52

The temperature went to 16.9 last night with the heating on for a hour then dropped back to 14.8 when it was turned off… shall I keep the heating on all day & night? It’s going to cost me a fortune but also don’t want baby to be cold 🥲 the temperature is definitely stressing me out

OP posts:
purpleme12 · 15/01/2023 09:58

We just dressed her appropriately for the temperature

Winterfellismyhome · 15/01/2023 10:07

The heating doesnt need to be kept on all the time. Just layer the baby appropriately

Strawberriesandcreammm · 15/01/2023 11:05

I can’t seem to find a 3.5 tog… do you think a long sleeved vest, baby grow and a 2.5 tog will be enough until I order one?

OP posts:
GoT1904 · 15/01/2023 12:46

Baby will be fine. If you feel like they're cold have them in a vest, babygrow, sleeping bag etc. Nobody's house stays at the optimal temperature all the time.

I was very much worried about temp with my first. For the house and for baths, but you get to a point where you can use your common sense and everything is okay. I never bothered with room or water thermometers after my first. X

tfh · 15/01/2023 17:44

Don't let it stress you out - just use it for a guide to help you know what to dress the baby in at night. It will be cold next week but then it will get warmer next week so don't worry :)

wishuponastar1988 · 15/01/2023 17:49

Try not to let it stress you out. You can layer your baby up if they seem cold. Asda do a 3.5 tog sleeping bag that I bought and it's really good https://direct.asda.com/george/baby/baby-girls-sleeping-bags/disney-bambi-pink-frill-sleepbag-35-tog/G007325775,default,pd.html?redirectFromInt=1&cmpid=ppcgeoreor----dskwid-927000711955528277dm&utmcampaign=pla::Fashion--BabysBAUU-SmarttShopping&utmsource=google&utmmmedium=cpc&gbraid=0AAAAADt8WclCJ112lU5RVPWQzIwA6tpaP&gbraid=0AAAAADt8WclCJ112lU5RVPWQzIwA6tpaP&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI3brm3ZDKAIVAu7tCh3MJwr2EAQYASABEgJnzvDDBwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

When our bedroom temp dropped to 15 I had my baby in a 3.5 tog, long sleeve vest and long sleeve sleepsuit. You can also buy togged sleepsuits which I have found handy. I have a couple of 2.5 tog ones for my baby that I bought off Vinted - just means their arms are fully covered in there too instead of being more exposed in a sleeping bag. Sainsburys sell them x
