Putting a frer upside down?

Can putting the frer face down by mistake affect the test at all? I done the test then laid it down but didn't realise it was upside down when I went to check the result. It was still positive but it was a lot lighter than Tuesdays test.
I guess I'm just clutching at straws as it's probably not a good sign it's getting lighter 🥺

I wouldn’t worry, lines change strength for lots of different reasons!

WishToBeContent · 13/01/2023 08:55

I just thought by now I should be seeing darker lines if the pregnancy is progressing :( I'd be about 5 weeks now

It shouldn’t make any difference though. But things like testing at different times of day/being more or less hydrated can make a difference? There isn’t always clear line progression too, try not to worry x

Nikla · 13/01/2023 08:59

Oh no, I hope it all pans out ok.

I think my line was a light-medium shade when I was around 5 weeks.

Having said that, if it is significantly lighter than previous tests then perhaps not a good sign.

I've had 3 miscarriages around that stage and the line seemed to get lighter and then disappear after a couple of days.

I really hope it works out x

I always test with fmu just to keep it consistent. I have 1 frer left so will do it tomorrow and see if it's lighter again. Thanks for replying x

Sorry to hear about your miscarriages. That's what I'm worried about. It was quite a lot lighter. I'll try and take a pic of the 2 to compare and post it on here soon.

@WishToBeContent I had a similar experience and feverishly googled and found the hook effect. Do you have another frer? At about your time I noticed the control line taking back colour from the test kine as I'd had dye stealers, thought I was miscarrying. Turns out when hcg gets over a certain threshold the tests can't cope and you get a hook effect. I'm now 13+6 like, seems like a million miles away from that day I thought it was all going away!
To test if it's the hook effect you need to dikute your urine sample with same amount of water. The line should get darker despite less urine! Fingers crossed for you Op

I had heard about the hook effect but I honestly thought I'd have to be later on in pregnancy! Is it possible that could be the case for me if I'm only 5 weeks along?
I do have lots of cramping but have had it since I found out I was pregnant a week ago. No bleeding though. I've got 1 more frer and lots of cheapies so might do it with them?

I think I was 5+3 when I noticed it, your hcg levels may he different from mine, hope its just the hook effect. If you can wait til tomorrow might be best with FMU x

WishToBeContent · 13/01/2023 10:01

Thank you. Maybe a stupid Q but how much water do you use to dilute it with?

Imisscoffee2021 · 13/01/2023 11:24

@WishToBeContent I just did same amount of water for urine :)

Honestly, and I’m sorry to say, it looks like my chemical pregnancy. Hope for the best but guard your heart just in case OP. Flowers

I was thinking that, was hoping I'd be wrong. How many days did it take for your tests to go from dark to light?

OP posts:
SBHon · 13/01/2023 12:12

It happened over a week. And then after that I started spotting a little.

I hope we’re wrong and it works out well though.

WishToBeContent · 13/01/2023 12:29

I hope so. I guess I'll just have to test over the next few days and see if they keep getting lighter. The cb digital said 1-2 weeks a few days ago so I'm guessing I had enough hcg back then but looks like it may not be the case now. Thanks for taking the time to reply

I really hope it will be ok @WishToBeContent and that it’s just lighter for whatever reason or the hook effect but I had a chemical in October and another in November but my test line didn’t get as dark as the control line either time. At 14dpo were more like you latest test then got lighter a few days later then started bleeding. It’s a bit soon to say it’s definitely a chemical after only one lighter test.

I would wait 48 hours so Sunday to do another to see if it’s considerably lighter. I’ve heard of the hook effect too but not sure it would be an issue quite yet when 3 days ago your lines weren’t yet a dye stealer but I don’t really know as I stopped testing this time at 22dpo (didn’t reach that far with the 2 CPs).

Don’t worry yet there could be many reasons other than a Chemical 😊

I did have a chemical back in November and like yourself the tests were super faint then they ended up being negative. Just feels different this time with the strong positives before and some pregnancy symptoms. I will hold off until Sunday to do another frer and hope it's stronger again.
I've got a few cheapies so will try the hook effect with those and not the frer. Don't wanna waste it.
Thanks for replying x

Did a cheapie test this morning. It didn't seem much lighter than the other tests I've done but I've started bleeding now. It's not like pure blood. It's more mixed in with my cm but it's still there and it's slightly red. I've got quite a bit of cramping too. I'll still do the frer tomorrow to see the difference with yesterdays test.
I'm really really sad. I was really hoping this was my time. Thanks to everybody that replied to me on here x

So sorry OP. I m going through something similar and I was crying about it a bit earlier... The uncertainty is so difficult to handle.

It's so so sad...and such a roller coaster.

I'm gonna try to have more tests before trying again. Everything looked fine so far but no pregnancy stuck...

Wishing you to find peace and strength and for your time to come as soon as possible!

SBHon · 14/01/2023 10:21

I’m so sorry to you both. I don’t know if it helps but you’re supposedly more fertile following a chemical. So the next few months may hold more hope.

It's such a difficult situation to be in. I had a cry earlier too so I totally understand how you're feeling

Thank you SBHon! just checked the cheapie and it's as dark as the other tests I done on the 6/8/10/11th of this month but the frer definitely was lighter yesterday so I guess I need to accept they're more reliable than the cheapies and that the frer will be even lighter tomorrow 😒. Expected the cheapie to be lighter too.

allgoodthings84 · 14/01/2023 10:44

@WishToBeContent I’m so sorry you’re going through this. I don’t want to give false hope but a lot of people bleed in early pregnancy and it’s ok. Until the tests are negative (or getting considerably lighter) then don’t think it’s all over quite yet.

If it it a chemical then what someone said above about being more fertile after I personally agree with as after my CP I got pregnant the following month. Unfortunately that was another CP but I then got pregnant again the following month (so 3 cycles in a row) and now I’m 8 weeks and hoping for the best.
