Suggestions for baby moon in March

Hi all!

We're hoping to go on a baby moon (never been abroad together in the 7 years we've been together and hoping to before baby is born in June!) in March and looking for suggestions, hoping for a relaxing beach holiday - but affordable! Maximum 1700 for the both of us 😂

Malta is great in March. Not to much tourists yet. Water might be cold though.

Ursuala · 14/01/2023 10:28

How come never been abroad in 7 years in your entire relationship? Just being nosy.

Putting aside the “baby moon” reference and focussing on you wanting a chilled beach holiday, then couple of questions… duration and budget?

keepareaclean · 14/01/2023 10:31

Do you mean a holiday?

Stephanie226 · 14/01/2023 11:03

How many weeks would you be? Best weather would be canaries but my midwife told me 28 weeks and over you need to inject blood thinners for flights 4 hours and over so that put me off going away for new year. I'm such a woos!!

BabyFour2023 · 14/01/2023 11:05

I don’t think the typical winter sun destinations you’ll get for £1700 for 2. What about a city break. How come you’ve never holidayed together? I’ve just been looking for my parents for the Canaries for March and none were under 2k.

You had a midwife that was spouting nonsense

I’ve never heard of this! I’ve travelled between 30-34 weeks with all of mine, longest was 4.5.

FreyaHazel · 14/01/2023 11:11

Yep I certainly haven't heard that either and will be flying to Hong Kong on an 11 hour flight while pregnant. I was advised by my midwife that if the airline is happy for me to fly and no underlying health conditions make me high risk then to crack on.

Stephanie226 · 14/01/2023 11:12

Possibly different health boards, different rules 😂 I'm in Scotland. Maybe she was just jealous that I was planning a holiday and she wanted one 😂😂

FreyaHazel · 14/01/2023 11:13

To answer the OP, Croatia seems to be affordable with cheap flights and decent hotels well within budget. It's good weather, has beaches etc but also lots of history so lots to do depending on what your thing is Smile

No where does it mention blood thinner injections post 28 week flying.

she was giving you duff advice

Don’t worry. The midwife was not giving NHS England or Scotland advice she was spouting her own opinion.

https://www.rcog.org.uk/media/lrupol45/air-travel-update_v4.pdf

This guidance from the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists states that you may be advised to have heparin injections if you already have risk factors for DVT regardless of the length of your flight. Perhaps this was what your midwife was referring to? It would not be applicable to anyone without additional risk factors and there is bullet points of advice to help prevent DVT for those people.

I have absolutely no health concerns!! Raging she done me out a holiday 😂 saved a few pennies I suppose. Hope you get somewhere OP and enjoy your relaxing time on the beach with a mocktail x

In fairness, you could’ve checked for yourself online. Or asked another midwife. Loads of pregnant women travel in the 3rd trimester.

@Ursuala thank you! I thought it must’ve been.

Stephanie226 · 14/01/2023 11:25

Well I put my trust in these people who are looking after me so who am I to question advice they give me.

How long ago was this?

Stephanie226 · 14/01/2023 11:26

Just a few months ago, it was for a holiday over new year

Maybe it was because you were fainting so much you broke your nose and because of the possible gestational diabetes?

Pasithean · 14/01/2023 11:28

Baby moon. !!!!!!!! WTF.

Stephanie226 · 14/01/2023 11:28

That was an issue over the past few weeks... this was in October we wanted to book for new year. Thanks for your input which is really unhelpful. Sorry your clearly having a bad day but maybe try not to take it out on others next time

That’s something of a reach, isn’t it 😂😂 why is it unhelpful? Im offering suggestions as to why they didn’t recommend you travel… you said up thread you have absolutely no health concerns which really wasn’t helpful input either; was it!

Stephanie226 · 14/01/2023 11:32

Which I didn't at the time of the advice from midwife, trying to save going into such long info when all the OP wanted was recommendations for a holiday. Enjoy your babymoon OP, it's a great excuse for a little holiday before baby's arrival 😁

In that case, you need to mention at your surgery that the midwife has given incorrect advice
