We're booked for NCT classes (starting in a few weeks!). I was mostly motivated by the chance to meet other people who'll be hatching around the same time as us, though I consider it a bonus that my husband will be fully prepped for what to do if I need to give birth on the kitchen floor etc!

@JustAnEqualParent I hate the DH acronym and indeed all the Mumsnet acronyms too - so difficult to follow who people are talking about!

@GC2023 I've read Phillipa Perry's The Book You Wish Your Parents Had Read and actually I think it should be issued to every human who plans on being in a relationship, never mind becoming a parent! Trying to get my spouse to read it next but he's a slow reader.
A friend has given me Secrets of the Baby Whisperer which I plan on reading at some point (14.5 weeks to go eek)! and Your Pregnancy Week By Week which is really helpful, I tend to read that while I'm eating breakfast!
I've just started listening to The Amateur MILF Society podcast, and that's quite lighthearted and real.

rach971 · 31/03/2023 20:28

@BackOfTheMum5net I keep meaning to buy that Phillipa Perry book!

Rutennotou · 31/03/2023 23:26

Welcome to all the newcomers 😄

My hips and lower back are really starting to give me trouble now! It's been affecting my sleep. Almost 27 weeks. I have booked a 4D scan for Tuesday afternoon and have glucose tolerance test on Thursday morning. OH and I also went to view a house yesterday (we are renting and wanting to move) and we got the house! Rental market in the town we are moving to is so competitive, just got lucky. Moving after Easter so I've a busy week ahead - so glad we will be moved before I get too big 🤣

Congratulations @Rutennotou. We rent also but I think we're going to start looking for somewhere else when baby is around 6 months. We've not been here a year yet and I can't face moving whilst pregnant haha. It'll be okay while baby can be in a crib in our room, just when she needs her own room we'll have to upsize.

I'm pretty sure she's changed positions again as well. She was moving around last night but I felt none of the kicks on my tummy, it felt like she was kicking backwards and I could feel it above my bum 😂 It just felt like a lot of internal movement, nothing I could see or feel on my tummy.

rach971 · 01/04/2023 07:51

@habiller I'll never be that organised by 26 weeks 😂 I was planning on packing mine at about 35 weeks 😂 I need to get a list together of what I'll need. Not even got many baby bits yet apart from clothes & bottles

BackOfTheMum5net · 01/04/2023 08:21

@rach971 this is reassuring! We’re barely started on the baby things buying, got some clothes and somebody gave us a crib and that’s it!
We’re off to test drive prams today so wish us luck… anyone made their pram choice yet?

rach971 · 01/04/2023 08:36

@BackOfTheMum5net I think we're ordering our pram next week on payday. Delivery is at the beginning of July which is perfect. Just need to double check the measurements to make sure it fits in the car boot!

Yes I need to start research for a double pram!

I really recommend the Babyzen Yoyo if you’re in a city. So light, so easy to fold, it’s really brilliant unless you need to go over rugged terrain.

I think we're going for the IckleBubba Zira. It's around £250 at the mo on sale from £300. Can't decide between black and the grey one with silver though 😂

SSimp24 · 02/04/2023 10:57

@habiller I'm 23 weeks, already got everything (had a couple of bits like Moses basket and cot from my older two) but I've got everything else now apart from teats for the bottles and I need a nappy bag too.

I need an actual hospital bag (though I just used a small suitcase with my last) and to pack it. With the two older ones I need to be prepared so that's why I'm sorted already 😂

We've gone for the Silvercross pioneer. I always wanted one with the others but never actual got one so I thought while it's my final baby I'm having it 😂 only second hand off Facebook as they're not in them 2 minutes anyway x

dunkedbiscuit · 02/04/2023 17:24

You lot are giving the need to get organised! 😂 I’ve sorted out the mountain of clothes from
my little boy but that’s about it. Need a get a travel system & moses basket as we didn’t keep our old ones and extra muslin clothes / some new baby toys etc. I’ll maybe write a list!

hallodarknessmyoldfriend · 02/04/2023 17:53

Did anyone buy a breast pump already? I am reading reviews online and still can't make a decision!

SkyBlue20 · 02/04/2023 18:54

I’m feeling very disorganised compared to you all 😂🙈 What will be the baby’s bedroom is being plastered this week then we can get it decorated, the floor done and some furniture in and THEN I can start organising! We’re in the middle of a house renovation so it’s all a big conveyor belt of work where one thing needs to be done before we can start the next! To be fair though, I have most things from my DD, so really just need to sort through all of her clothes and start calling back all of the bits and bobs we’ve leant to people over the last year or so that we’re going to need! 🙈

BackOfTheMum5net · 02/04/2023 19:39

I'm with you @SkyBlue20 , our nursery needs emptying (farewell, dressing room!), the wallpaper removing, probably re-papering and then painting, then carpet fitting! We have a crib but only because someone gave it to us!

Nothing like a deadline to focus the mind... hopefully Easter weekend will spur us on!

rach971 · 02/04/2023 20:05

I don't feel the need to get everything so soon personally. But I'm sure I'll be wishing I did when I'm further along having to buy anything 😂 Just we don't have a huge amount of space so I don't see the point of cluttering everywhere up too far in advance 🙈

@hallodarknessmyoldfriend I have done lots of research too and just bought the lansinoh 2 in 1 breast pump it's arrived and looks great! I had the medela swing breast pump last time but fancied something abit different this time so went with the double breast pump as i have less time now with this being our 3rd baby and a busy schedule.

Very laid back this time around I'll be 28weeks on Tuesday and just started getting things I have gone with the bugaboo cameleon 3 (I had the 2 last time) having tall children I found this was a great pram and lasted until they no longer needed a pram, also got the doona car seat which I'll use on the football run and school run!
I bought the coZee next to me which i love the look off and it's large so will hopefully last longer the the moses basket we had last time 🤞

Sending lots of love and hope everyone is well ❤️

Hjudge56 · 02/04/2023 22:24

Hey everyone I have a couple questions!

  1. which formula brand would you recommend from birth? I will be formula feeding my baby girl from day dot and thought I’d see if anyone else is doing the same/ has had experience of this. I have found Kendamil doesn’t contain palm oil so I am leaning towards it.
  2. any random newborn essentials people have added to their list/ know from previous experience? Trying to think of things I may not realise I’ll need! Also just want to know what items were a godsend for people in previous pregnancies!

thanks all!

rach971 · 03/04/2023 07:51

@Hjudge56 I used Aptamil last time and never had any issues. Will be going with it again this time around.

Essentials wise I can't think of many, but I'd say:

  • Nail scissors - So much easier for cutting babies nails than using nail clippers. My daughter is 8 and we still use the nail scissors even now.
  • A nappy bin - Won't be an essential for everyone but it doesn't half keep the smell at bay compared to just using a regular bin to put them in. Obviously pricier too, but I'll be getting one again this time.
  • Metanium - If my daughter ever got nappy rash it was the only thing that worked really well to get rid of it.
  • Angelcare breathing monitor - It's just like a mat type thing you put under the cot mattress and then it's linked to a monitor that alarms if baby stops breathing. Doesn't half give you a shock in the middle of the night when baby has managed to wriggle up the cot and off the sensor so the alarm goes off, but definitely worth having in my opinion for the peace of mind. Can pick them up second hand at a decent price.
  • Disposable changing pads - Again won't be for everyone, but I thought they were a god send for when we were out and about. Not everywhere you go has a nice, clean change mat. So I used to put a disposable one down on top, it's just a thin sheet like a puppy training pad. This was pre covid though so thinking about it now you could just take a pack of anti bac wipes really. But they're also handy if you're not near a change mat e.g. the park.
  • Dummy steriliser - We had the Milton one but Nuby also do a UV one which I think I'll go with this time. So handy to keep a spare dummy in, then when one gets dropped you just switch it out and you've always got a clean, sterilised one ready to go.
rach971 · 03/04/2023 07:52

@Hjudge56 Oh and also a bath thermometer! Really cheap off Amazon. The whole 'use your elbow' thing didn't work for me because apparently my elbows aren't very sensitive 😂 Could never tell if it was hot or cold 🙈

Thanks so much for your recommendation. I just found it on a sale on Amazon so good timing!

@rach971 this is so helpful thanks so much! Added all of that to my list :)
