Congratulations on all your pregnancies!! I'm gate crashing from the conception board. I hope that's ok 😁

So, sperm can live for 5 days in good conditions. How true is this? And does anyone have any tales of a successful pregnancy from DTD 4/5 days before ovulation?

The reason I ask is that I'm due to ovulate tomorrow but only managed to DTD on Saturday and Sunday just gone and it's not possible tonight 😩

@overthinkersanonnymus I type as a 5 day survivor pregnant woman 😂
I’m currently 13+6 and our baby boy gave us the shock of our life.
LMP 14-19th of September
Had unprotected sex on the 22nd of September.
Ovulated around the 27th or 28th at the very earliest.
I have very very very regular cycles to the day.

babyyodaxmas · 21/12/2022 19:51

DS(18yo beside me on the sofa) was conceived on D5 of a 24 day cycle.

overwork · 21/12/2022 19:53

I'm pretty sure that must have happened to us, we were actively trying to not get pregnant and I'm still baffled I'm in this situation

glasshole · 21/12/2022 19:53

Sperm can live for much longer than that. A study was done where women that were about to have a hysterectomy has semen deposited into their uterus. The study reported that some persistent lil swimmers were still alive 9 days later!

BrewandBiscuit · 21/12/2022 19:55

Me! I fell pregnant on the last day of my period, so probably day 5 of a 27 day cycle. It was quite the shock!

FTMworrier · 21/12/2022 19:55

Possibly in this situation as DTD 4 days before and 4 days after, so either ovulated early, on time or late. Won’t know really until dating scan 😆

NoelNoNoel · 21/12/2022 19:56

I got pregnant 3 times on day 12 of my cycle.

overthinkersanonnymus · 21/12/2022 19:58

Omg so this is actually a thing 😂😂😂

I had like the tinyest big of EWCM just before sex and I know im definitely ovulating tomorrow (opk blazing positive this morning and some ov cramps) so that should put me at 4 days before ovulation

I might just carry on thinking there's still a chance!!

Thanks girls 😊

@overthinkersanonnymus this is little man laughing at us for thinking we were on a green day 😂💙
Sending you all the baby dust ✨🤞🏻🌈

CityKity · 21/12/2022 20:20

@firsttimelondonmummy what a great scan pic!

I’m another one for this list. I have bang on 28 days cycles, have never tracked ovulation but typically get ovulation pain on CD14.
DTD on CD8 and CD21 only that particular month, and am currently 7 weeks pregnant. Like @overwork I’m still utterly baffled, and I guess won’t really figure out what happened until a dating scan.

overthinkersanonnymus · 21/12/2022 20:30

Well hopefully I'll be back here in two weeks to add my own story!!

Thank you for all your stories xx

Just bumping this thread in case we get any more stories!

I got pregnant without having a period in between, had a chemical then got pregnant the month after without a period so don't have a clue when I ovulated. But if it happened that soon for me I'm sure sperm can live for days as I didn't have sex much that month lol. Wishing you baby dust 🤞

SuperGinger · 23/12/2022 12:44

My DD was apparently conceived when DH and I were on different continents. He is definitely her father, she looks just like him but when I went for the 12 week scan they said I was only 10 weeks pregnant.

PortiasBiscuit · 23/12/2022 12:45

My impossible 17yo was conceived the day my period started..

FTMworrier · 23/12/2022 13:55

So I’ve just had a scan and it’s dates me at 6 weeks …. Which means I ovulated when I thought and my husbands little swimmers survived for 4-5 days 😱
🤞🏻 for you OP!

overthinkersanonnymus · 23/12/2022 19:39

@FTMworrier congratulations!! He's made of strong stuff obviously 😂😂

DH and I had decided that it was the last month to TTC #2. It had been 2.5 years of trying. Managed to dtd a few days before prime ovulation wondow. Come ovulation time I got a raging yeast infection, the ultra buring sort. I was devastated. Went and got a capsule from the doctor to insert.......allergic reaction to that ....more burning.
Some how weeks later we got a positive.
So that sperm managed a long stay and some dodgy conditions.

FTMworrier · 23/12/2022 20:36

I also remember clearly when we DTD because I had a sickness bug Tues-Thurs and my husband started with it on the Thursday and I thought I was ovulating on the Thursday …we DTD on the Sunday 🤯 so I 100% thought we had missed the boat that month!

Nimbostratus100 · 23/12/2022 20:57

I am a science teacher, and I spent years teaching that sperm last an average of 2-3 days and a maximum of 5 days inside a woman.

In the last few years, the info in educational resources has changed, and the modern videos I have from the exam board show sperm entering a period of dormancy and "idling" for up to 10-12 days. I am not clear where this new information is coming from, but the video's show sperm literally implanting themselves into the walls of the female reproductive tract, and waiting there until the egg is released, then coming back to life.

I guess its probably only a very small number that do that. And I guess it hasn't been realised in the past, because no swabs would show any moving sperm in that time frame.

But it isn't as straight forward as was thought when I went to school, or even when I started teaching

overthinkersanonnymus · 28/12/2022 21:42

6dpo for me and obviously a bfn ( I'm a serial tester and I don't care who knows it 🤣)

Still keeping my fingers crossed for a strong swimmer to have survived 4 days!

Yes, me.

Had sex on day 9, then DH went away with work. I was so upset he was missing my fertile days. Ovulated day 14. A week later DH came back and we had sex on day 22. By day 28 I was testing positive for 2 weeks pregnant.

🤷‍♀️ Bodies are weird. And baby was a boy, despite me reading that male sperm can’t live that long. Guess the books don’t know everything.

LuluBlakey1 · 28/12/2022 23:18

We think DS1 was from these super sperm that hang around for a long time. We couldn't work out the dates to match the scan and knew exactly when we'd DTD last. DH read an article that said sperm have different jobs. Some just shoot off looking for an egg straight away, some go with them but are just in the pack of swimmers and are not fertilisers, some just swim in circles and never go anywhere and others find 'pockets' to hide in and wait in a latent state conserving energy and when they, somehow, sense an egg then come out- by which time the first lot who shot off are dead of exhaustion. It said they could live 10-14 days.

overthinkersanonnymus · 31/12/2022 16:49

BFN at 9dpo (not even a sniff) so doesn't look like I'll be having any super sperm baby from this month 😂

On to next month and good luck with all you're pregnancies! Xx
