Me and my fiancé would like to start TTC (ideally we would like to get married before)

Curious to know how old people were when they had their first baby?

currently 25, will be 26 early next year

28 with my first and 29 with my second.
I'm glad I had them when I did!

I’m 32 and pregnant and will be 32 when I have DS all being well 🤞🏻
Wouldn’t personally have done it any earlier.
Had an amazing time in my 20’s travelling and then progressing my career.
Never wanted to be a stay at home mum personally and so wanted to be settled in my career before having my first.
My mum was 30 when she had me and now we party together so I knew I wanted to be in my 30’s and that I’d feel that was still a great age to parent for me.
Also will not be marrying my partner before the baby. I don’t want to rush into marriage without seeing how we parent together. Children cause huge changes in a relationship and I’m sure they will be for the best but I’d personally rather navigate that ship prior to marriage.

I guess I just need to do it when the time feels right for me and my fiancé, I was intrigued to know if people were married before having their first baby and if that should be a priority first

Nope. And we have been together for 14 years and still have no plans on getting married.

I was 26, and wish I’d waited until my 30’s.

babyjellyfish · 12/12/2022 09:45

I had just turned 35 when I had my first, and will be 36, almost 37, when I have my second.

Who was married before they had their first?

Yep, married more than five years before we had our first. We wanted the stability and to have our own home before having a family. Also protection financially for maternity leave and then with one of us dropping down hours at work.

Also to add, agree with others, very glad I didn't in my 20s, spent those years traveling, getting a lovely house and we have more disposable income.

Trollolol · 12/12/2022 14:17

20 & 22. Never wanted children past 25!

allfurcoatnoknickers · 12/12/2022 14:33

32 and that made me a young mum around these parts. I actually know more people who've had first babies over 40 than under 30.

I'd been married about 5 years and we owned a 1 bed flat. Currently pregnant with #2 at 36.

First at 26, second at 28. Slightly younger than is average around here I’d say but not wildly young. It’s worked out really well for us.

Iguanainanigloo · 12/12/2022 14:55

27 almost 28, and second at 29 almost 30. Wish I'd had them slightly earlier, as would have loved a third, but couldn't imagine going through it again once I was in my thirties.

MsGrumpytrousers · 12/12/2022 21:59
  1. Didn't want children at all until I was 37.
ArmyofMunn · 13/12/2022 01:03

I was actually 39, and had my second at 42!

HildasLostSock · 25/01/2023 18:05
  1. Didn't meet DP until my mid 30's if l'd met him sooner we would have started sooner/given the choice I'd have been younger.
