Can I eat a Big Mac?

I know junk food isn't ideal and I've been really healthy so far so just want to treat myself. Do you know if we can have Big Macs? 🤔 craving it SOOO bad but worried the sauce or cheese won't be pasteurised! Thank you

Have a word with yourself and stop being ridiculous.

Bloody hell! How exactly is OP supposed to 'have a word' with herself? And why should she? There are any amount of inane questions and statements on this site and you've muscled in on the pregnancy board to give the OP a slap and nothing else?

AIBU is that-a-way >>>

Hahaha this thread made me laugh.

I live in France. The cheese that isn't pasteurised is the good stuff. The stuff that came out of the cow and was then left to go green for a while until it was good and smelly.

The kind of cheese you get in McDonald's burgers is barely even cheese. It has probably never even met the cow.

Enjoy your big mac, OP.

I ate sushi and medium rare steak Shock

She was born at 36 weeks and 4 days - very healthy and happy baby.

Obviously there's some NONOs like alcohol and anything dangerous but enjoy what you like within reason.

Congratulations 🥳

There's a reason they recommend against these things though. You're lucky your LO was healthy but it's an unnecessary risk for lots of people.

PennyDeadful · 24/11/2022 18:37

@girlmom21 the reason against them is due to the bacteria I believe which is already a small risk, they just want to make that small risk to 0 risk which is understandable - it's my understanding that Sushi in the uk is frozen and safe to eat as it kills the bacteria and I think I had medium rare steak once or twice - neither was an everyday occurrence.

If you are being this daft sometimes it's worth saying it bluntly!

I hope the OP enjoys her pregnancy because I do think some people are determined to make it miserable as sin.

BigFatLiar · 24/11/2022 19:01

I suspect the cheese is the sort you get in processed slices which only bares a passing resemblance to cheese.

Enjoy your big mac, much better than some of my cravings.

Actually if @PennyDeadful is in England they don’t even recommend against sushi…

girlmom21 · 24/11/2022 19:13

Depends on the fish @Sleepygrumpyandnothappy

dementedpixie · 24/11/2022 19:18

Currently nhs advice is that sushi should be cooked. Think it's to do with a listeria outbreak linked to smoked fish

Prior to that smoked fish and (previously frozen) sushi was ok

mondaytosunday · 24/11/2022 22:17

You cannot obsess like this! The fact you are worried about a highly processed cheese (have you seen that stuff?) is a little over the top. Rest assured you might get indigestion but it won't harm you.
I hosted some French women at a conference and I was six months pregnant so to make conversation asked them what food restrictions did they adhere to in France. To say they thought I had lost the plot was an understatement! They said they ate (and drank) whatever they wanted in moderation. I felt more than a bit foolish trying to explain the advise here. Boff!

dementedpixie · 24/11/2022 16:23

Yes you can have a big mac. You could even have a mcflurry! Everything will be pasteurised

Actually they advise not to get ice creams or milkshakes from the machines due to listeria risk.

Actually no they don't.
Nhs does not warn against soft serve ice cream and the McDonald's machines have self cleaning cycles to make sure the machines are clean and the products are safe

HairyMcLarie · 25/11/2022 02:23

Lol at the very concept that McDonalds would use anything that wasn't pasteurised. It's designed to last for several millennia in unrefrigerated lorries and mall storage rooms.

terryschocolateorangee · 25/11/2022 03:28

There's some stupid advice on this thread. Follow the guidelines, which exist for a reason. Don't listen to anecdotal shite.

MrsTerryPratchett · 25/11/2022 03:34

Gimme Big Mac gimme fries to go. Great song.

MrsMorrisey · 25/11/2022 03:35

Eat it. You'll love it. Then you'll regret it but who cares.
Being pregnant is great for eating stuff you wouldn't normally want.
1st pregnancy loads of sticky date pudding
2nd vanilla malt milk
3rd Burger King onion rings.
Just eat!!

MrsTerryPratchett · 25/11/2022 03:37

In Iceland a Big Mac meal was placed in a hostel in 2009 when McDOnalds closed there and showed no signs of decay for several years. Now THAT'S what I call pasturisation!

RambamThankyouMam · 25/11/2022 13:20

What do you honestly think will happen?

Your baby isn't going to turn into the Hamburglar or something

We honestly need better education around pregnancy in this country.

Sleepygrumpyandnothappy · 25/11/2022 15:06

It’s not just education around pregnancy. Anyone with a vague awareness of pasteurisation would realise it’s absurd. And they do teach that in schools!

DillDanding · 25/11/2022 15:07

Such fuss budgetary.

Eat it. Stop being ridiculous.

PointyMcguire · 25/11/2022 15:43

Please tell me I wasn’t the only one that ordered a Big Mac for lunch after reading this? 😁

littlepeanuthopes · 25/11/2022 16:24

Some people are not very kind but hey ho!

I got the message......I CAN EAT A BLOODY BIG MAC. Please be kind to people or stop replying to this thread. That's what's ridiculous.

Feef83 · 25/11/2022 16:33

chill out OP

a couple of posters calling you ridiculous or a bit daft is not exactly “cruel”

Just didn't even really know what pasteurised

you could have googled. You could have gone on NHS which lists everything very clearly. Instead you asked a chat forum and 🤷‍♀️ don’t like it that some have pretty forthrightly right but absolutely no venom - buck up OP!

littlepeanuthopes · 25/11/2022 16:37

@Feef83 again - let it go.
