Glucose test tomorrow and naturally my heartburn has been really bad this evening. Tonight is going to be bloody awful and then I don't get to eat until lunchtime!

Was having a debate with mum earlier. If I end up with preeclampsia and gestational diabetes, is the baby going to be a big baby (GD) or a small baby (preE)!?

I had bad pre eclampsia and was induced earlier due to it. 39 weeks. Was told baby would be 5lb from growth scans, I’m petite and my bump was tiny first time measured 28 weeks at full term...he came out a whopping 8lb (not huge) but huge for me and huge for a pre eclampsia baby 😂 pre eclampsia only really affects growth if it’s bad for a long time but with your gestational diabetes on the other hand the baby is getting so much extra glucose they do become huge. So my bets or on big baby but if you are induced early due to pre eclampsia will obvs be smaller if you don’t go to full term x

Finally made it to 24 weeks, been very much waiting to tick this milestone off!

You guys are so organised we really haven't got much sorted yet, pram shopping this weekend though.

We haven’t either. We are moving house in the next few weeks so just praying baby doesn’t make an early appearance 😂😳 going to panic buy in Jan for sure 😂 don’t reccomend moving house so close to due date 😂 x

Dreamingof3 · 07/12/2022 09:42

I'd go high waisted pants for after, just in case! I get a size up just for extra comfort.
My plan is to start adding wipes, nappies, formula to our weekly shops after Christmas and our parents will probably buy bits too.
@Blocklynn when I planned to breastfeed I didn't buy anything before the birth, everything can be bought so easily if it's needed and if it turned out you needed formula in hospital for whatever reason, they would provide it for you. Probably the only thing I'd recommend beforehand is a hakaa or similar as it's great for catching the let down from whatever side you aren't feeding from.

havanamama · 07/12/2022 09:55

@Blocklynn I will try breastfeeding too, and got 3 MAM bottles for free - 2 in the John Lewis consultation goodie bag and 1 at Window to the Womb goodie bag

Babynum2 · 07/12/2022 10:04

@TeddyBeans someone I know had her baby early due to diabetes last week. She was 36 weeks and baby was 9.4!

ChrisTheSheep16 · 07/12/2022 10:28

Just back from my 25 week appointment and just realised that the midwife never measured my bump..... does anybody know if she was supposed too? Or when does the bump tape measuring start from?

havanamama · 07/12/2022 10:32

@ChrisTheSheep16 I was not measured at 25week appointment either

Cats23 · 07/12/2022 10:58

Hurrah! 24 weeks today! But my big milestone has always been 27 weeks ( My 1st DD Was born at 27 weeks due to Pre-eclampsia, no issues with my last 3xDC though!)
I will start packing my maternity bag this week ( I went into hospital with DD at 25weeks) I feel nervous still though!

allthingssparkly · 07/12/2022 13:31

Mums on here expecting boys, where have you all been buying sleepsuits and outfits from? I need some ideas of places to have a nosy at 😊

GreenIsle · 07/12/2022 13:59

Hi everyone just wondering if anyone has any advice. I have noticed that the past few weeks my urine is very dark almost orange at times. I have also had 3 notifications on my fitness watch of a sudden high heart rate when resting and I have had my watch for 4 years and never had these notifications.

I have midwife appointment next week so will check with them but should I be worried, could be just be dehydration or something maybe.

Noodle20 · 07/12/2022 14:41

@allthingssparkly H&M do some lovely boy outfits as well as places like George in Asda and Tu in Sainsburys

PeonyPops · 07/12/2022 15:26

Hi all. Just looking for advice. Been for 25 week appt today (am 26+4) baby all fine but fundal height massive.
my precious babies were 8lb 6, 9lb 5, 8lb 13. I don’t remember ever measuring over though, I did have to have growth scan with my last baby. Anyone know what the deal is with big babies? Anyone been induced or offered a section for a big baby.

Mrs2022 · 07/12/2022 16:01

@allthingssparkly sainsburys tu is great and boots too. Most of the stuff I have is from sainsburys Tesco or next. I like sainsburys and Tesco because their newborn goes upto 7.5lb and all of my baby's have been smaller than that so they fit perfectly. ☺️

TeddyBeans · 07/12/2022 16:20

@Blocklynn don't get anything expensive yet, you might get on really well with breastfeeding. There are little packs of premade formula you can get that come with sterilised teats for the early days when they don't drink a huge amount in one go - saves on bottle and steriliser costs while your milk is establishing itself. You can always prime/boots bottle feeding equipment once baby's here if you feel like you're not going to be able to sustain breastfeeding

@Perexi congratulations! It's an amazing one to reach ❤️

@Blondewave wow you packed a lot of baby into a small space! DS was 8lbs 4oz but I didn't get preeclampsia until 39 weeks with him so makes sense with what you said. Will be interesting to see if I do end up with GD - I'll be interested to see what the consultant has to say at my growth scan if that does turn out to be the case. Maybe they'll balance each other out and I'll have a normal sized baby 😁

@Babynum2 oh crumbs! That's a chunky baby! Can you imagine what they would have weighed full term!?

@ChrisTheSheep16 my midwife said they don't start measuring until 28 weeks here

@allthingssparkly I was a dafty in my first pregnancy and spent a butt tonne on things from boots' baby clothes range. H&M and all the supermarkets are where I get most things from nowadays - or next during a sale

@PeonyPops I don't think they'd worry too much this early on as you could easily plateau and start following the lines. If you continue to be above they'll probably get you in for growth scans and talk to you about your options a bit later on

I wouldn’t worry. When I worked on labour ward I saw someone deliver an 11lb baby naturally 😬 they won’t induce you or do section. A big baby is not a medical emergency unless. I had shoulder dystocia previous so was advised c section. As I’m tiny but grow chubsters (8lb) which is was told is huge for my build so if you’ve delivered without shoulder dystocia before they won’t implement anything. Also fundal height isn’t accurate. Some women have huge fundal height and a tiny baby & some with small bumps (I was predicted 5lb baby based on growth scan and fundal height) have big babies x

Dreamingof3 · 07/12/2022 17:10

Just to echo above, final height can be way off. My first baby my fundal measurements were always fine but she measured big on scans. They did the usual scare tactics about shoulder distocia etc but didn't induce me until 40+6 and then I had an emergency section, she was in the wrong position, weighed 10lb5!
My gd baby in comparison was 7lb7 at 39+1, so it doesn't always mean a big baby!
Basically take it all with a pinch of salt. My friend was told her baby was measuring huge and frightened into a section...7lb3 🙈

Babynum2 · 07/12/2022 19:07

@allthingssparkly I've got mixture of tiny baby, newborn and 0-3 boys stuff from tesco, Next, matalan and asda.

Room4onemore · 07/12/2022 19:43

Next, matalan and boots mainly here, but next is where I go to first

Room4onemore · 07/12/2022 19:52

Also today is my last day of snacking, I eat so much rubbish and I have decent size babies so I’m wondering if I eat better if it makes a difference on the size of baby

Babynum2 · 07/12/2022 21:44

I really don't know what size babies I have because mine were so different 5lb at 34 weeks and 7.11 at 36 weeks so it's going to be a nice suprise if I go full term this time fingers crossed.

Perexi · 07/12/2022 22:45

So far we have a mix of vinted JoJo mama baby, m&s and next for the little one. At 20 week's looking at the scan he was average size but with really long legs, was off the scale on the chart so hopefully they slow down a bit so he actually gets to fit the clothes! 😂😂

allthingssparkly · 08/12/2022 08:15

Thanks all 😊 I have a growth scan on the 19th so it will be interesting to see how much he is currently weighing.

Is there anyone on here that'll be applying for Maternity Allowance? Not (SMP)

Pickles23 · 08/12/2022 09:33

@allthingssparkly
Hello, yes I'll be claiming MA (I started a new job soon after getting pregnant!). I gave my MATB1 to my HR department a couple of weeks go, I'm still waiting for them to send back the SMP1 form that I think I need to claim MA. I assume we just ask the payments to start at the same time we go on mat leave?

allthingssparkly · 08/12/2022 10:39

Hi @Pickles23 Ah hopefully your employer gives you a copy of your SMP1 form soon. I did have to chase mine 🙈

I'm just awaiting a decision for my MA. Your payments will basically start around the time you let your employer know when your going on ML 😊

I'm hoping for an update on mine before Christmas but not feeling hopeful with all the postal strikes 😩
