@Melusina123 Mine sounds in a similar position to yours. At my growth scan a couple of weeks ago the sonographer said he was head down, but then his back was sort of curled over on my left side, with his bum at the top then his legs over to my left, sort of like a ? she said. Which made sense as to whereabouts I feel kicks (under my ribs and on the right side). I had to lie on my side for her to see everything she needed. Also read in my app today as I’m 30 weeks today and now is when the baby should start getting into it’s birthing position (head down).

Irishgirl55 · 06/03/2023 16:32

@Janch13 Sorry meant to update around weight gain - Midwife said it was fine - I might find I put on more in the coming weeks.

She measured me and plotted that I was having a big baby - 97th percentile - much bigger than my 1st.

Had a growth scan today - Baby is measuring right on the 50th percentile mark and estimated to be slightly smaller than my 1st!

Janch13 · 06/03/2023 18:10

@Irishgirl55 they are notoriously inaccurate! My first was a big baby, 91st centile. This one tracking 32nd centile but who knows what he’ll actually come out as. Consultant even said they can be up
to 15% out either way so 30% in total!

Janch13 · 06/03/2023 20:19

Anyone else got pregnancy insomnia? I’m awake most nights from 1-4am, which is really annoying as I’m knackered in the day time!

Awkwardusername · 06/03/2023 21:24

@TheBeesKnee dont know much about GD but just wanted to say I hope you’re okay ❤

MissNat13 · 06/03/2023 21:51

@TheBeesKnee Ive got GD for the 2nd time. My first was induced at 38+2 as he was growing big and the risks of complications upon delivery. Plus I found it hard to manage with diet alone, was nearly on insulin. Luckily managed to stay on the tablets.
I was happy to have him early, he was born 8lb 15oz and I didn’t need too much intervention upon delivery. Which I was happy with. He was growing bigger from quite early, maybe from 20 week scan they were suspicious of it.

This time I was screened earlier but only came up on the 28 week test.
however this little one appears to be growing within normal range, but I also have Low PAPP-A so I have risk of small baby and big baby, may just average out.

I find the diet difficult though, I’m really good with adapting but I get bored of the meals and there’s not that much I like in terms of GD recipes.

you’ll be fine though as you’ll be on a pathway, more checks to ensure growth is fine and if all is well you may go full term.

I'm finding myself getting loads of tummy bugs this pregnancy. Sorry tmi but 4th sickness bug today, I'm in so much pain with my tummy.

The last one was 3 weeks ago where I was in bed all day and got really unwell and dehydrated.

Anyone else catching loads of bugs?

buuuka86 · 08/03/2023 07:44

@Irishgirl55 , like @Janch13 says, I wouldn't worry about the size as they have no idea. My friend had pregnancy diabetes, was told her baby was big and she was recommended a c section. She went with it. It turned out the baby was of a standard size and there was no need for a c section at all. Obviously they said that after the surgery.

Myotherusernameisaferrari · 08/03/2023 08:52

Just to reassure everyone about movements, if you have any concerns phone your hospital. You won't be judged and they're so reassuring. Mine are being huge amounts of trouble and I've been admitted twice so far and the staff are so lovely even when there are no concerns. Better safe than sorry. Everyone I've spoken to says active babies are good but if they're quiet and you're worried, go.

RugbyGirl1 · 10/03/2023 07:26

Morning all! Just so you're aware, Boots are running a 10% off when you spend over £30 baby event at the moment - I just got the bedside crib I've been eyeing up for £157 instead of £215 (tutti bambini have further offers on top of the 10%) and some other bits and pieces. I think there is 15% off everything online between 11am - 1pm today but I wasn't going to risk stuff selling out 😂

harriethb · 10/03/2023 09:23

@RugbyGirl1 Thanks for the heads up! I’m going to get some hospital bag stuff at 11am :)

Awkwardusername · 10/03/2023 12:18

Sorry to keep banging on about this but my local maternity unit shares statistics about births each month and for the last few months the C section rate has been almost 50%… I’m going to ask my midwife about this next time I see her but should I be worried? Any reasons for this? I’ve attached the info! Worried about induction rates too?

I’m right on the border so can easily pick between two units…would this make you think about picking the other or am I being over sensitive?

TheBeesKnee · 10/03/2023 12:41

@Awkwardusername probably worth asking in case she has some inside knowledge! Very different if people are opting for a CS vs emergency. It doesn't say how many inductions went to plan; cynical me wonders if this was withheld deliberately?

I have seen that inductions seem to be either fine or fail and end up in a CS days later, with not much in between. This makes me incredibly reluctant to be induced. I'd rather just skip over to a CS and avoid that whole stress, pain, and exhaustion.

Awkwardusername · 10/03/2023 13:10

@TheBeesKnee I had the exact same thought!
In my head I think I’m reading it as “all these women had inductions ending in c sections” which makes me even more adamant I don’t want an induction and would rather just have a section if I’m going to end up having one anyway!
obviously when the time comes I’ll do whatever is best for baby and me, and I know I can’t control it all, but the rates don’t fill me with confidence! A lot of women I’ve been speaking to seem to have been told they basically have to have an elective section, one had her 31 week appointment and baby was breech so they tried to book her in?!

IWillBeWaxingAnOwl · 10/03/2023 17:14

@Awkwardusername I'm not sure what trust you are in, but some (mine included) have changed their offered induction timeline to 40+10, which will increase these numbers.

Thanks for prompt - will need to see if my healthboard publishes theirs!

tiantian1005 · 10/03/2023 17:28

I feel I must be the only one who has not bought any of the big items? I am still so anxious about anything going wrong at 32 weeks today... although I do have a massive excel with everything we want and plan to click the button in April. I keep telling myself a lot of it is next day delivery so dont need to rush. Our house is ready though. anyone leaving it this late as well?

buuuka86 · 10/03/2023 18:37

@tiantian1005 I'm the other way round - the room isn't quite ready but I have all the big items (except baby monitor), plus probably about half of the clothes I need.

I think we will be fine, we still have time, especially if you've already done your research and are clicks away from ordering. But baby survival rates after w28 are super high so he/she is coming, no need to worry about something going wrong! 😀

It's funny how people look at it in different ways.. Personally I'm really on it right now but my HB says it's too early and he says I should chill (I'm due on 31 May).

We painted the nursery last weekend and am now looking at replacing the carpet.. We're also picking up a furniture set tomorrow, which is gonna have to clutter our living room for a few weeks until the floor is ready.. (one of the reasons my HB isn't happy but I found this beautiful, barely used set on Fb and didn't want to miss out!).

After that I will focus on the room decor and picking a bigger car.

Then in the last month I'm going to buy small cleaning & bathing products, any missing clothes, etc. But I think these things can be bought whenever, it's not like we live in the middle of nowhere.

Full on nesting mode! 💪

MissNat13 · 10/03/2023 20:55

@Awkwardusername i had an induction with my first and it went okay for me, I managed to avoid CS and hope to again. I was open to CS last time but I didn’t say to my midwife I hope to avoid it again, I’m nervous about having surgery and the recovery time.
mom likely to be induced again due to diabetes and I’m okay with this.

I’m more worried about the gas and air situation, my midwife said that it’s due to the situation in Ukraine and the filters are made there. So there has been limited or no stock.
currently my hospital hasn’t stopped it yet, but they may do.

RugbyGirl1 · 10/03/2023 21:42

@tiantian1005 I'm with you! The bedside crib I bought today was my first purchase and that was only because it was something on my list that was on a very good offer! Other than that, I've bought nothing at all, and not decorated a nursery etc as it's still my office 🤷

TheBeesKnee · 11/03/2023 21:08

Small rant: does anyone else have a dramatic/anxious mother?

I have only just told her about my GD diagnosis and that it's under control because I couldn't deal with my own feelings about it on top of hers. I was diagnosed a week ago and put on monitoring 2 weeks ago.

And of course she has gone into hysterics begging me to follow the diet and look after the baby 🙄 the response is on par to what I'd expect to hear if I told anyone else that I was taking up a light crack habit to get though this pregnancy.

Jaymar · 12/03/2023 09:22

@Awkwardusername these stats are really interesting. This is my 2nd pregnancy. There were 7 of us in my NCT group last time and all of us ended up in theatre. Between us we had 5 c-sections and 2 forceps. Only one c-section was planned. From memory I don’t think any were induced. I think it’s great that there’s lots of literature about positive birthing and what we can do to aid an unassisted birth. But I’d have liked some stats to give me a reality check that for lots of women it doesn’t go that way. For example my daughter was back to back and her head never got into the right position for an unassisted birth so I needed forceps. I’m going in with a much more open mind this time.

raffika · 12/03/2023 21:18

@Awkwardusername @Jaymar it’s interesting reading other people’s thoughts, and statistics for different centres. 50% for CS does seem high, and it feels deliberate that they’ve not broken it down into emergency and elective. I know some people take comfort from statistics, but I’m always wary, as you can manipulate numbers to suit a particular agenda.

I live in a very rural area and I have one option for where I have my baby. That option has had some publicised cases of either natural or induced labour where they’ve failed to intervene and there have been adverse outcomes. They’re also well known (if you speak to other women in the community) for inducing as many women as possible, to try and manage numbers, although they often don’t check baby’s position - a couple of friends were induced and their babies were in positions where they’d never have found the birth canal, so they had to have an EmCS after pushing for long periods.

My baby was measuring 1-2 weeks ahead at 29 weeks, and the writing was on the wall for me that they’d probably try and induce me early, which made me sick with worry. I’ve asked for an ElCS - I know it’s not an easy option, and it’s not for everyone, but I feel so much less anxious since hubby and I made that decision.

Jaymar · 13/03/2023 20:04

@raffika I totally understand why you’ve made that decision. I think I would I do the same. I was so slow to dilate in my first labour I’m not convinced my body would even respond to induction. It must feel really good having certainty (or as much certainty as we can) about what the lead up and actually delivery day will be like. I hope it’s lovely and calm for you.

IWillBeWaxingAnOwl · 13/03/2023 20:34

@TheBeesKnee that is completely unreasonable. Maybe tell her stress is bad for the baby so perhaps she should avoid stressing you out!!!

buuuka86 · 14/03/2023 06:08

Has anyone tried the Peanut app to meet local mums? I've just registered and it's like a dating app for mamas 😆I've already connected with a few local mums at a similar stage of pregnancy and am even meeting one this weekend so I'd recommend it. But they force you to pay for it in order to make a proper use of the app, which is really annoying. Then again, how much is a friend worth. lol.
