Ive just been to see the nurse at my GP's to have my pregnancy confirmed but she has now managed to convince me that im actually not pregnant which has rather upset me and now i dont no what to do.

I did 2 clear blue tests on friday which both came up positive in about 5 mins
which i thought meant i was pregnant etc...

But the nurse has now filled me full of doubt saying i may have bought it up positive because i still have hcg in my body from my D & C in nov ( just over 2 months ago )

But i cant see how she can be right because 4 weeks after my D & C i bought 2 clear blue and 2 first response and tested all with the first urine of the day and all 4 were negative, i then had a negative blood test and then on the 5th week after the op got my period.

So i cant seem to understand why i bought up every possible test negative and now 3 weeks after my preiod im bringing up tests as positive why she still thinks i have hcg in my system??

Im so confused and i hope someone can help because i thought nurses were there to make you feel better and not like shit!!

if your rpevious tests after your mc were negative and are now pos again then i think you are pg.

go and see someone different if you want it confirmed. or, ring NHS direct and ask them about your tests.

i bet you are pg though.

HelenCS · 28/01/2008 10:44

sorry ladies... that was mean to say 'why i still have hcg in my system from the last pregnancy and not a new one...'

Did she do a test?

Sounds very strange.

HelenCS · 28/01/2008 10:48

she did a blood test and i can get my results possibly tomorrow afternoon but she said hcg from a miscarriage can stay in your system for several months after having the op...

but if your blood test was neg after your mc, now it has risen again. there are very few other explanations for a ncg rise - either pg or fertility drugs and i think one cancer drug can make this happen.

thinkshe was just erring on the side of caution far too much

good luck.

kindersurprise · 28/01/2008 10:49

hmm, would not have thought it would go and come back again though.

Did she have any reason to doubt that you might be pregnant?

Odd

kindersurprise · 28/01/2008 10:50

I meant, her reaction is odd, not that you are odd

missvicki · 28/01/2008 10:52

That may be the case (Hcg staying in the system) but you can fall pregnant immediatly after a d/c anyway. My sister got preganant the week after hers, so you should keep pushing it.

HelenCS · 28/01/2008 10:52

thats what i couldnt understand tho...

every pregnancy test and blood test was negative a week before my period

now 3 weeks after my period the tests are coming up positive. I really dont no why she has been syaing all this to me

I would agree with scorpio1 - you tested negatives on 5 different tests (1 blood) after your d&c which was 2 months ago now. Hcg levels only go down after this, not back up again, surely? Get a second opinion or wait a while and go back, they may have 'forgotten' you have already had a neg blood test since your d&c.

HelenCS · 28/01/2008 10:54

she was only doubting it because i had a mc in nov

How unhelpful of her! And poor you - not what you needed. I agree with everyone else that the previous negative tests and now positive ones means that you are pregnant. Really don't understand what the nurse was getting at - it's so common to get pregnant after miscarriage I can't understand why she was dismissing you? Grrrrrrh. Hoping for lots of good news for you soon anyway!

HelenCS · 28/01/2008 10:59

thankyou for all your kind words..

I dont no why a nurse would say things like that to me tho, especially as pregnancy is a sensitive issue for me after my mc. She has upset me alot

When you feel able it would be an idea to write to the practice manager about this tbh. I think there's a very good chance she's wrong in your case - and that aside her patients shouldn't be leaving an appt feeling upset and confused - that's just not good care.

spugs · 28/01/2008 11:14

sounds like your nurse is talking rubbish! f you had that many neg tests including blood tests and you now getting positives then it sounds like a new pregnancy. get a second opinion

nervousal · 28/01/2008 11:57

Did you tell her about testing negative before your af? As folk said above - if you've been -ve and are now +ve it looks like you are preg -CONGRATULATIONS!!

HelenCS · 28/01/2008 14:45

i explained the whole situation about 10 times but still she was like 'well it might just be from when you had the mc' but thats IMPOSSIBLE!!!! considering how every kind of test just before my period was negative!!

God... i just want tomorrow afternoon to hurry up so i can find out for sure!

Even tho i think i am she has put alot of doubt in my mind

any more light shed on this for you?

kindersurprise · 29/01/2008 21:23

Did you get the results back yet?

B1977 · 29/01/2008 21:31

Not convinced the nurse has really listened to you TBH. I have had bad experiences with nurses and midwives I'm afraid, had an ectopic and then similar lack of understanding afterwards. Hopefully congratulations are in order. Can you get an appointment with one of the GPs? I have had better experience that way. If you are pregnant, deffo write to the practice manager! Best of luck.

HelenCS · 30/01/2008 12:51

Yey, congratulation!

nh101andhertwinbeans · 30/01/2008 14:41

That's wonderful news. Conratulations! I had a MC last March and am now 23 weeks PG with twins so I know the pain you feel trying to get PG after MC. That stupid nurse!! Good luck this time, I am sure everything will be just fine.
