I am currently 9 weeks pregnant with my second child at 40. I was hoping to connect with some other mums who are also 40+, whether FTM or not - everyone is welcome! I have name changed as it's too early to tell anyone in real life but it would be great to have a supportive thread going 🙂

Hi 👋 I'm 42 with my second. There's a 4 1/2 year age gap between my DC and I'm 32 weeks pregnant this time. Differences this time round are having to have the gestational diabetes test and I have an appointment with an Obstetrician this week to discuss birth plans.

Whentwobecomesthree · 24/10/2022 13:21

Hi, also 40 and I'm 7 weeks with my second pregnancy. I have a DS20 months. Wanted him to have a sibling. Just found out there's two. Think I'm still in shock

My first is 5 but will turn 6 a few weeks before DC2 arrives. It seems like a big gap to me. Ideally it wouldn't have been so big but health, COVID and life got in the way!

Hi - omg twins! I am honestly a bit terrified about this possibility and am waiting for the first scan to see what's in store for us. Can't blame you for being in shock!

@TwiceTwiceBaby
Hello! Congratulations! I am 8w pregnant (naturally) with no. 3 and I’ll be 41 in Feb 😳 I’m also overweight with a BMI of circa 36. I couldn’t find a thread discussing both of these so I may have to create one! Just to say had a scan a week ago - saw the little heartbeat and everything was fine. We’ve really been brainwashed around the problems of being older and pregnant.
More so when overweight. I reckon older overweight women don’t even try for this very reason 😡 but I have zero health issues and my body is capable of naturally making a baby, as is yours.
enjoy your pregnancy!

EL8888 · 05/11/2022 14:51

@TwiceTwiceBaby afternoon! I’m 42 and expecting twins. I will be 43 when they’re born. Ivf pregnancy after over 4 years of trying

Im 15 weeks but can’t shake the morning sickness. Consequently l weigh 1.5 pounds less than when l got pregnant. Hopefully l won’t get told off at my week 16 appointment. Feeling tired but l reckon that’s the twin part rather than my age 🤷‍♀️

SwordToFlamethrower · 05/11/2022 14:53

I'm 45 with my ivf pregnancy, I'm 41 weeks gone. Got a beautiful round bump, uneventful 9 months. Just waiting for the big day now!

MrJi · 05/11/2022 14:56

I had both mine in my forties, I was lucky and got pregnant quickly, as I hadn’t tried until then. Just in case anyone in worrying about how it might be having teens in your late fifties, I want to say it is great ! I am surprised by how much fun it is actually. So good luck everyone.

TwiceTwiceBaby · 05/11/2022 15:00

Hi everyone! Welcome to the post.

@CKBM I'm overweight too and also conceived naturally. I've had really severe morning sickness this time round though - one doctor referred to it as HG but haven't had an official diagnosis. It sucks though! I have list 10kg since I became pregnant.

Hi I'm 40 and I have just found out I'm pregnant with my second. (about 5 weeks). My dd will be 5 when baba arrives and she has just recently started talking about wanting a brother/sister. We had been trying for about 2 years and had given up cos we thought it was never going to happen. Hope everyone is doing well.

Perexi · 05/11/2022 17:58

Hey! Im 40 and 19 weeks pregnant with my first eeek. I also have a higher BMI but fit and healthy and got pregnant much quicker than we thought it would happen!

Fluffydiamond · 05/11/2022 18:27

I'm 41 and nearly 9 weeks pregnant with my 2nd x

Coffeeforlife · 05/11/2022 22:11

So glad I found this thread, some of the other ones were making me feel pretty elderly! I'm 40 and about 5+3, we've got two boys and the younger one would be 5 when I'm due. We'd stopped trying after a loss and complications so this was a surprise, I'm feeling very anxious but keeping everything crossed for a good outcome x

Bluebonnet3 · 05/11/2022 22:18

Hi, I'm 43 and pregnant with my first, currently 33w + 3 days. Took a few rounds of ivf to get here, but so far so good.

CKBM · 07/11/2022 21:08

@Coffeeforlife
i think I’m a in a similar boat to you. I’m 40 with a 9yo DD and 7yo DS.
Started trying again at 39 after persuading OH. Had 2 early losses earlier this year then just as we gave up in Sept, fell pregnant. Currently 7w6d or thereabouts. Seen a heartbeat twice but the scans were 10 days apart and slightly contradicted each other - first one said 6w4d, second one said 7w0d!!. Everyone’s telling me it’s normal for early scans to be up to 5 days out but my experiences have caused me to feel so anxious that I will keep saying ‘if’ until the end, whenever the end is. Trying to prepare myself for every possible outcome.

Coffeeforlife · 07/11/2022 22:08

@CKBM Congratulations! That's a bit odd with the scans but they really aren't that precise early on so I'm sure you've nothing to worry about (though you will sorry I'm sure, it's human nature!) I've got one booked next Monday which I'm dreading, it's where I got the bad news last time and they were so lovely at least I know if the worst has happened I'm in safe hands.

Do you remember the first time you were pregnant how excited you felt with none of this baggage? Wish I felt like that now!x

OooohAhhhh · 07/11/2022 22:21

Hi, I'm 41 with my second (12 weeks old)

Phrenologistsfinger · 07/11/2022 22:24

I’m 40, overweight bmi 36, conceived naturally 12 times and lost them all before 6 weeks. Last one I lost just last week. It doesn’t work for everyone. You are the lucky ones!

Starry77 · 07/11/2022 22:36

Hello I am 40 and 26 weeks pregnant with our 2nd baby. I got pregnant with DD at 38 and she was born when I was 39. Conceived naturally and within 2 months, my BMI was 35 when I got pregnant second time. I am fit and well and have felt well during both pregnancies as an older Mum.

CKBM · 07/11/2022 23:15

@Phrenologistsfinger
thabk you for your message and for right-sizing me. So sorry for what you’ve been through. I didn’t think it’d happen due to age/weight but I tried a few different things:

  • started taking 5mg folic acid per day 6 months ago
  • started taking coq10 400mg pd
  • omega 3 fish oil 1250mg pd
  • got put on cyclogest when I got pregnant this time
Read the books ‘impatient woman’s guide to getting pregnant’ and ‘it starts with the egg’ - or read the summaries.

you’ve probs already tried all of this :(

CKBM · 07/11/2022 23:17

@Coffeeforlife
oh bless you.
yup I miss that first time pregnant feeling when a positive test = baby. Long gone are those carefree days!
ahh I’m wishing you all the best for your scan next Monday. I also have a scan next Monday so will keep everything crossed for us both.
does this one feel different for you? How are your Symptoms etc.?

TwiceTwiceBaby · 08/11/2022 05:12

Really sorry for your losses @Phrenologistsfinger 💐

I have my 12w scan next Tuesday and whereas the first time round I was excited, this time I'm more worried in case they find anything wrong. I've kind of been putting the pregnancy on hold in my mind until I know whether it's likely to be successful, which might sound odd but it does seem quite different from last time when I had just turned 34.

TwiceTwiceBaby · 15/11/2022 14:15

Had my 12w scan and all looks good, fingers crossed for trisomy results now. Then as long as all looks good, how to tell DS5 that he's going to be a big brother (which I think he'll be happy about). Does anyone have any advice on telling children about a new sibling?

thejadefish · 15/11/2022 14:35

Hi, I am 45 and am mum to a 4 month old (natural conception). Good luck to all those expecting/wishing you a smooth journey. Had my first age 40 (met partner in my mid 30's). My eldest had been asking for a sibling and we really wanted another but didn't have any luck, thought it wouldn't happen. We told her by asking her if she still wanted to be a big sister & when she said yes showed her the scan picture. I'm the oldest mum by at least 5 years at DD's school I reckon so it's nice to see others having babies in their 40's.

@MrJi this was worrying me thank you for the reassurance!

CKBM · 15/11/2022 17:54

@TwiceTwiceBaby
Amazing! Glad scan went well. My 12w scan isn’t for another 3ish weeks as I’m 9 weeks. Had one at 7w5d early last week and everything seemed normal. Am definitely less anxious though it still crops up and catches me off guard.

@thejadefish
what a beautiful and inspiring story - thank you for sharing 🙏🏽
