I am currently 9 weeks pregnant with my second child at 40. I was hoping to connect with some other mums who are also 40+, whether FTM or not - everyone is welcome! I have name changed as it's too early to tell anyone in real life but it would be great to have a supportive thread going 🙂

I am 42 and expecting my second. We have had a loooong IVF journey and spent the last 11 years TTC. My son is 6 and has been asking for a sibling since he could, so he is very excited to have a sister arriving in 2 weeks 🙂

@CKBM they have also re-dated me to 13+1 and therefore brought my due date forward a week 😁 Eek!

I've just turned 42 and my baby is 3 months old. We had IVF so he's our little miracle.

@CKBM Sorry totally missed the mention. Scan was Monday, all looked normal and they put me at about 7 weeks. I feel pretty awful - tired, nauseous and sometimes being sick, which is normal for me at this point.

I kind of recognise your name, I think we may have been on a ttc thread quite a while back together, I used to be @sleeeeeeepy before I increased my caffeine intake. This is now almost zero so maybe I should go back to the old name...x

@Coffeeforlife
thats great news about the scan!! Congrats 🥳 Ah yes I feel very very tired atm, nausea
starts setting in around 3pm and peaks early evening. Also, after 3pm, I feel like I could go back to bed for 10 hours 🥱 Got 9 hours last night and was still knackered after a few hours at my desk - keep fantasising about chucking myself on my bed every 10 mins (but can’t do it!)

I’ve only actually physically been sick twice but the nausea is quite debilitating. Have gone from craving spicy chicken to despising it.

I welcome all the symptoms, seriously!

constantly worry about boobs not being painful enough. They’re more heavy but I really have to prod them hard to feel any tenderness. It’s annoying.

last scan was at 7w5d - all was well. Currently 9 weeks, dating scan not until 12 Dec 😡 which is past 13 weeks! I’m hoping I can hold out until then but I have a feeling I’ll start wobbling by early next week. Won’t go for a private scan though as I had a bad experience a few weeks ago.

I thought I recognised your name but the only thread I’ve been on are ‘positive FRER but negative digital test’ threads some months ago.

ps I still have 1 coffee, 1 tea and a small glass of coke every day. Only half teaspoon coffee but still I’m well within the range. Without caffeine I’d probs not get out of bed at all!!

@CKBM I'm sorry you had a bad experience with your private scan, I usually go to a nice but expensive place but branching out next week to a cheap and (hopefully) cheerful one. Because of the MMC I know I can't trust my symptoms as a guide so will be checking regularly until 12 weeks if I make it that far.

I'm with you on the wanting a nap, I'm dreading Xmas party season so much, I've actually gone off tea and coffee so have one tea in the morning (or I can't function) then don't want any more. I usually drink giant mugs full of it in between large coffees.

I'm expecting quite a late dating scan due to Xmas but haven't heard a date yet....x

Hi,

So nice to see that there are lots of mums over 40.
I'm 40 and had my second baby. He is 3 months old. My first is 17 years old, so it's a massive age gap. Im aware about it and it wasn't my plan. However, life sometimes doesn't turn out how we planned it.
Both of my children were planned and wanted. The gap didn't bother me at the start. My eldest loves her baby brother. However, lately I feel judged that I had a second baby. I get comments like ' are you mad?' or 'are you not worried about your health and age?' and so on.
It's makes me annoyed. Also, it makes me think was I selfish for wanting another baby?
Any of you lovely mums getting judged because of your age?

CKBM · 05/07/2023 14:37

@Mummy256
I wonder if it is people who wish that they had been able to do it too. I have had some family members say “why would you do this to yourself aren’t you meant to be relaxing now? “I have a 10-year-old eight-year-old a newborn and I am in my early 40s. I think most people think it’s not doable, they project their own worries, and regrets on to us, I think we are lucky as a chosen few who have embarked on this exciting adventure. to ignore others and enjoy my new baby –. something I really didn’t think would happen.

@CKBM
Thank you for your lovely words. It's definitely an exiting adventure. It's nice to look forward to baby milestones again 😊
