How long to conceive #4 at 35 years old?

Good morning!

Curious to know how long it took people to conceive baby number 4 at 35(+) years old? Our other children are 12, 10 and 6 so it's been a while, and my body certainly feels it.

I am 35 now and I understand that there is a sharp decline in fertility from this age, but I'd like to know some real life experiences on this.

My other children were conceived fairly quickly and I suppose I am just a little anxious that it won't happen as easily this time.

Thanks

I had a dc at 37.4 after ttc 1 cycle.

Was a shocker I admit!.

The idea of a sharp decline in fertility at 35 is actually outdated. Whilst the rate of miscarriage goes up every year (not just from 35, literally every year you’re alive until menopause), so you’re more likely to have a loss but there is no 35 year cliff as previously thought. Your fertility levels are more set than that, and it’s a slow decline rather than a big drop. Someone struggling to conceive for the first time at 37 likely would have struggled at 30, they just didn’t know.

If you’ve not struggled previously, you’re not likely to struggle now. It may take a bit longer, you are slightly more likely to miscarry than last year, but no you haven’t dropped off a cliff

Not my 4th, my 2nd, but it took me 10 months.I’m 35 and currently 15 weeks pregnant!

Conceived first try at 39...

Started ttc at 37, now 40 and still childless (10 losses)

Second month age 35 and first month aged 38. Early days on this one. I think it's a myth that your fertility falls off a cliff at 35, it's more like a gradual decline. Perhaps if you have problems at 35, you would be likely to have had problems at 25 anyway.

Ds, age 34, was on the pill but had a course of antibiotics. I knew this might lead to a pill failure but we both said if it happens then that'd be ok... and it did, lol. I guess we could say that was month 1.

Dd, age 38, month 2.

Thanks all, good to know

I conceived my first at 36 and my youngest at 38.

BoudiccaVibes · 11/10/2022 12:03

Thanks again

Do you feel like pregnancy was more difficult as you got older? I am generally quite a busy person, but don't know if this will be a blessing or if I am kidding myself thinking I can do it all again.

Two months aged almost 39. Although I tried earlier in my thirties with no luck. Left it a few years and then decided to try again.

MadamLibrarian · 12/10/2022 04:30

I conceived my 5th at 37 and 6th at 39, 5th took two months and 6th took one month (we only DTD once too). I only have one Fallopian tube. Good luck.

RebeccaCloud9 · 12/10/2022 04:42

Conceived #1(31), 2(33) and 3(38) all straight away.

Pregnancy and birth much harder the last time, but was also less fit and heavier so I think that made more of a difference. Plus was 3rd section so that was the difficulty with birth, rather than age.

lickenchugget · 12/10/2022 05:42

First try… good luck

I’m a busy person too, I always like to be doing things and on the move all the time.. first pregnancy was very easy to be honest, and I think deep down I thought this one would be too, but this pregnancy has knocked me sideways. I don’t know if it’s because I’m older (6 years on) or slightly less fit, but I’ve struggled more with sickness and just feeling exhausted constantly. It’s worth it, but, for me, not the easy ride the last one was so far!

3 months aged 37

TheHumanSatsuma · 12/10/2022 11:18

It took me 14 months for my 2nd at 35. A year for my first at 31
My sister less than a month at 35 (her first- twins)

Beefilm · 12/10/2022 11:22

I was 36 when I conceived no. 4. It took a few months, maybe 5 or 6, but not really going for it each month.

My older children took one month, hit the jackpot first try, and 3 months respectively.

CristinaNov182 · 12/10/2022 11:25

First child at 38. Was 37 and it happened the 2nd month we tried.
42 now, took 10 months.

There are lots of mums over 40 and you’re just 35, if your fertility has been good so far I wouldn’t worry. Just get a pro-conceive multi vitamin with folate and vit D. I gave the men’s ones to my husband too, both times, and we started the vitamins 1-2 months in advance of TTC.

That’s terrible I’m so sorry for your losses.

I suppose you might already know about this, but in case you don’t, have you talked to your GP about taking a baby aspirin, or an antioxidant like NAC?

There’s been lots of studies like this one showing NAC is good for recurring miscarriages and I know women who have been helped by it.

https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/18983759/

CoQ10 is another antioxidant, both are over the counter supplements, but your doctor can advise better.

Hope you get your rainbow baby, wish you luck and strength.

Think everyone is different and also your partners health plays a huge roles as well I'm 36 and pregnant with my 1st took us 2 years

Sunriseandcoffee · 31/12/2023 08:35

2 cycles for baby #2 @ 36.

Littlegoth · 31/12/2023 08:48

Conception after 35 wasn’t an issue, conceived 5 times on the first month trying between 36 and 41, and once on the second month during the same period. 2 successful pregnancies along with several miscarriages due to undiagnosed clotting condition.
