Did I have a miscarriage or not or what?

Long story short,

I got a positive pregnancy test on Monday, well 4 actually 2 Asda tests, one clear blue with a very obvious line and a digital saying 1-2 weeks later that night I got some light bleeding and yesterday I bled too, bright pink/ red blood. I went to the doctors who carried out observations and concluded I was having a miscarriage however bleeding has stopped and I took another digital test this morning and it says "pregnant 1-2 weeks" no idea what to think or feel. Is it a miscarriage or threatened miscarriage? If anyone has had a similar experience I would be so appreciated if you could share with me, I'm
A bit lost to be honest x

How did the GP determine you were having a miscarriage? Did they do blood tests? I’m not sure they can confirm that on the basis of bleeding as many women have that in early pregnancy, but maybe they confirmed it via something else they observed?

BuffaloCauliflower · 14/09/2022 10:18

Implantation bleeding in the early weeks is pretty normal, I think 20-25% of pregnancies? Did the GP test your blood for HCG levels?

Daisychainsx · 14/09/2022 10:19

Sorry this is happening 😔 I'm no expert but from what I know, bleeding can be a sign of a miscarriage or a sign of nothing at all. Pregnancy tests can continue to show pregnant even after a pregnancy ends as it takes a while for the hormones to leave your system. It's so early that there's probably not a lot can be seen at a scan. I guess the best way of knowing would be some blood tests a few days apart to measure your hormone levels?
Hoping that everything goes OK for you 🤞🤎

She just basically said if I'm bleeding it will be a miscarriage and left it as that. They didn't want to do bloods or anything. So I took it upon myself to just do the other digital test this morning to see and it said positive. This is my second pregnancy and we have been trying for a while for baby no2. So I'm finding it all really tricky to come to terms with if I have miscarried but yeah head in a total tail spin tbh. The bleeding/ mild cramping has stopped now and I slept fine so not sure what to do

Well not to give you false hope but I experienced bleeding early in my current pregnancy and touch wood everything seems to be ok (19 weeks). However as a PP said, sometimes pregnancy tests show positive even if there has been a miscarriage. I think the only way to tell is getting blood tests on a few consecutive days to see if your HCG is rising. Maybe speak to your doctor again? (Although they don’t sound great!) Sending positive vibes your way 🤞🏼

I've just taken another test because I had one in my bag and line appeared straight away 😭 this is killing me tbh! Yeah might call them

Only time will tell. Either the pregnancy will continue to progress or the tests will turn negative. It's really impossible to tell at this stage; what matters is the change over time.

You could arrange HCG blood testing to give you specific numbers but you're so early on that you might as well just keep doing urine tests at home. If the pregnancy didn't "take" the tests will probably turn negative within days.

Yep I bleed often in early pregnancy. Especially either after sex or after a poo.

It was bright when I wiped. Not enough to wear a pad but enough to wear a liner which I did. Scared me shitless each time but it stopped after 7-8 weeks I think.

I didn't realise just how common bleeding in pregnancy is.

This is good to hear (in the sense I'm not alone) I just felt so dismissed by the GP who said yup it's a miscarriage crack on see you soon. I'm just holding up hope that all will be okay. Totally I (physically) feel great, mentally no idea what to think! Bleeding has stopped a light tiny tiny bit when I wipe but I mean like a tint, time will tell I guess, just going to keep testing and see what happens might pay for a private scan to see what's up but it's still so early

Definitely go for a private scan if you can.
I had one done at 6 weeks which is when I first found the bleeding. I was genuinely in disbelief when I saw a tiny flicker. I kept asking her if she was sure. Each time I bled it scared me Every time but when they said how normal bleeding us (as long as no clots or super heavy) it's really normal. And it helped ease my worries. A bit.

I had a couple scans private up until about 10-11 weeks and then the bleeding stops fully and the anxiety continues until the next scan and the next one. It never really goes away as you find something new to worry about but I promise it eases. I really hope this is the case for you and it's just implantation bleeding. As long as your tests aren't getting lighter try and keep positive I know it's so hard.

Best of luck OP and keep us posted xx

GP sounds a bit useless! If it is an early MC, then tests will get fainter over time. If it's not, they'll get stronger. Bleeding alone doesn't mean a MC. Your best bet is to get the cheap ones that give you 10 in a bag on Amazon, then test every 2 days. The other option is bloods every few days but unfortunately in my healthboard GPs don't offer this as too many pregnancies end in MC.

If you stay pregnant until 7 weeks (you're currently 3-4) then the EPU/EPAS will scan if you are bleeding

I hope it's good news for you OP. X

I've just taken a sainburys test now, look how clear the line is, itsmore clear then my Monday tests which leaves me even more confused. I've had a bit of brown blood when wiping after taking the test .... :/

Thank you!

I did this test just now so 5.30pm ish and it is SO obviously positive but when I wiped I had blood on the paper (not much and brown :/) Literally have no idea what to think when the test is so obviously positive and line so much clearer then when I even found out I was pregnant with my first

So sorry this is happening, i hope you are ok.
This happened to me in March, I started to bleed at 6 weeks ish and I wasn’t going to do anything but my sister convinced me to call the GP, they asked me to do a pregnancy test whilst on the phone and if it was still pregnant they referred me to EPAU where they did an internal scan.
Depending on how far gone you are may be why they haven’t referred you, unfortunately the hcg levels still show which maybe why you have a positive test. Recommend calling GP and trying to push for a referral to scan you, or wait and test again and see if it’s still positive. Hoping for the best for you xxx

ThNk you!!! I've just done a test this eve which is way more obvious then the test I did on Monday when I initially found out so I am so confused 😭 gp seemed useless annoyingly

Cant really advise but have my fingers crossed for you. Sometimes can be implantation bleeding, also I had a pool of blood develop on the outside of the sac (which can be normal) and the sonographer told me not to worry if there is brown or pink blood as it could be the blood from that but if it literally continues to go back.

My local hospital has a early pregnancy unit you can actually just ring and say your bleeding and they scan you normally straight away. It can be a wait , like 40 mins but puts your mind at rest.

I had an experience of a miscarriage and it was extremelly heavy, clotty and uncomfortable. The midwife was really rude to me and basically said i had made my pregnancy up.

Fell preg the month after, now have a 5 year old sat next to me refusing to eat her beans.... and currently preg with second at 19+3 , which i also had a pink little bleed with.

Your doctor sounds a giant ...... maybe request to see a different doctor.

x

Itsnevertheend · 14/09/2022 17:58

The only other thing i would say is, usually you can test for weeks after a miscarriage as its the level of hcg in the urine. a scan is really the only way to know for sure x

AnuSTart · 14/09/2022 18:08

Stop testing! You'll drive yourself crazy and then won't tell you if you've miscarried. It can take weeks even to show a negative after a MC.
The only way to know is by waiting a week or so and having a scan, if the doc is unwilling to do blood tests.

Loulou1712 · 14/09/2022 18:11

Sorry you've not got a proper response from a Dr
Honestly I wouldn't keep testing yourself, even if you've miscarried you'll test positive on a home test, the HCG hormone won't disappear overnight.
Your options really are to wait and see, have a look if your hospital has an early pregnancy unit and at what gestation they'll scan, or to book a private scan x

Laurakiaora · 14/09/2022 18:18

I had a suspected ectopic pregnancy last year. Days after the bleeding started, my HCG was still rising (was having blood tests every other day to monitor), albeit slowly, but still meant that lines were appearing consistently darker on pregnancy tests. It took over a week after the bleeding had started for the hormone level to plateau and start dropping.

I don't say this to worry you, but to gently explain that tests can still get darker for a few days even if a miscarriage has started.

That being said, as others have already mentioned, lots of people bleed in early pregnancy and go on to have perfectly healthy pregnancies. Unfortunately it's just a waiting game and I know how difficult that is.

Please stop testing multiple times a day. It won't tell you anything and the darkening lines may provide false reassurance.

I wish you the best.

I’m a bit surprised your gp assumed a mc straight away? Especially since it wasn’t even enough blood for a pad? That doesn’t sound like a mc to me. I’ve had a few and it was A LOT of blood and pain. How far along would you be?

Exactly what I thought.

Can you book a private scan OP? It'll drive you crazy to keep testing. It's so hard.

If you can do book a private scan to see if they can reassure you x

SH998 · 14/09/2022 21:05

I went for an 8 week scan and was told the heartbeat had stopped the week before. The pregnancy test remained a strong positive until it had passed which was almost 3 weeks later.
I have heard that bleeding during early pregnancy can happen and might not be anything to worry about.
Ill keep my fingers crossed that all is well for you xx
