I breastfed my first for a week and then switched as she just didn't seem happy and tbh I didn't get much support. My second I breastfed for a year, but combined fed and we had so many issues, that's why this time I'll be formula feeding. I know that if I start breastfeeding and run into issues again, I'll find it difficult to 'give up' and it was really mentally hard on me before...so just going to avoid it all!

No one shpuldjusge anyone on their feeding choice...unless you just aren't feeding them at all...then I'd probably judge 🤣

Is weight loss ok in the first trimester? I'm 11+1, 13lb down on start weight but still have an obese bmi.
On anti sickness and no longer vomiting, feel ill if I don't eat every couple of hours but can't manage full portions.

TeddyBeans · 05/09/2022 12:16

@AGirlsNameIsAryaStark I very explicitly told my midwife I won't be breastfeeding at my booking appointment. She said she has to talk about it at random appointments and to just tell her I'm not breastfeeding at those appointments. She seems to listen to me so just tell yours firmly that you're not breastfeeding and you don't want to talk about it at this time thank you very much

@dmb91 there's a thread going at the moment that I'll grab a link to in a minute. The OP is a plus size specialist midwife. I remember her saying they don't advocate losing weight but that's because there's no ethical way of testing whether it's safe or not.

My mum said she lost weight with me in the first trimester and always joked that I lived off her fat reserves. I haven't lost weight but have only gained 1kg so far. Pretty proud of that 😂

@dmb91 I'm down about 11lbs thanks to the sickness. Same as you now, need to eat frequently or i feel really ill but the vomiting has stopped...i hope. 11+3 now. I am still obese i think 🤣 my last pregnancy I managed to only gain 13lbs in total and once she was born I actually weighed less so I'm hoping to do that again!
I think if you have a 'high bmi'🙄 they want you to limit your weight gain, but won't tell you to lose weight

Perexi · 05/09/2022 13:15

If all goes well I want to try and breastfeed I think, mainly for the initial benefits but so many friends struggled with it if it doesn't work for us I won't worry about switching. (Famous last words)

My nausea has eased off a lot the last few days which is nice am only 10+4 so still nervously waiting on my first scan....

alotoftutus · 05/09/2022 13:30

😭😭😭 I need some hand holding!
I've just had a message to call the antenatal screening department regarding my tests last week!!!

This means something is wrong with my baby. I can't even bring myself to call them back. My husbands at work and I'm alone with the kids.

I feel completely sick. All along I've thought something was wrong, then when everything looked fine at my scan on Wednesday I could finally relax but clearly all isn't ok after all.

We planned to tell the kids tonight but I won't now.
I wish I wasn't on my own right now 😭

firstlittleone · 05/09/2022 13:34

@hol92 my sickness when at around 9 weeks and I went into pure panic mode but had a private scan and was all ok!! Noticed that from 10w3d(ish) my sickness has started again mainly on the evenings from what I’ve been told/read it’s normal for it to come and go!

hol92 · 05/09/2022 13:36

@firstlittleone me too!!! I proper panicked and also had a private scan and all was okay :) but it’s definitely back now, more when I don’t eat just like that horrible hangover feeling x

Dreamingof3 · 05/09/2022 13:41

@alotoftutus offering a virtual hand hold...I know how frightening that must be but first of all, you don't know there's something wrong, it could be something simple like needing information, or even needing to re do the test! You won't know until you call. And knowledge is power, if there is an issue, knowing about it can only help.

Call them. We'll be here for you whatever xx

Exactly this, it could be something little but until you know what the call was for specifically its easy to panic. I know that's easy for us to say, but once you know you can then process the information and deal with anything or hopefully nothing.

Also here for hand holding, crossing my fingers for you.

Eastybaby19 · 05/09/2022 14:02

@alotoftutus definitely give them a phone! I had the same with my son and I seen the voicemail was terrified to phone back & it was just to tell me I had RH negative blood so would be needing an Anti D if any bleeding or if I hit my tummy etc! Thinking of you!

I will Not be breastfeeding either I tried it last time for a couple of days 🤣 absolutely hated it!! Just wasn't for me 🤷‍♀️

havanamama · 05/09/2022 15:56

@alotoftutus definitely ring, knowing is better than not!
fingers crossed it’s nothing to worry about

Room4onemore · 05/09/2022 16:19

@alotoftutus, give them a ring, at least then you will know what’s going on x

LaForza101 · 05/09/2022 16:56

Best of luck @alotoftutus, I will be thinking of you. Fingers crossed it is nothing to worry about

Babynum2 · 05/09/2022 17:02

@AGirlsNameIsAryaStark I am 1 stone down from start of pregnancy i was more but gained a little bit back. I lost weight in my last pregnancies also and me and babies were fine.

TeddyBeans · 05/09/2022 17:12

@alotoftutus another virtual handhold from me 💐 even if you've come back as high risk, it's still 1 in 150 chance (according to my paperwork). They'll offer you more tests and confirm with more certainty if there's something you need to worry about. It might still be nothing

Hi ladies! Coming from thread 2. Had my 12 week scan today! Oh my god, baby would not stop wiggling! After laying on either side several times, lots of wiggling, emptying partially then full bladder, and a 20 minute walk with a fizzy drink, baby would still not cooperate😂. Got measurements but unfortunately couldn't do the screening, so I will be having some bloods done at 16 weeks for it. But baby is healthy! Due the 15th March, a day ahead of what we thought. Very long legs, longer than my daughters at this stage.

Hope everyone is ok and things are going well!!

Due March 2023 - thread 3
TTC24 · 05/09/2022 17:26

@alotoftutus virtual hug. Please ring them, we're all here for you x

havanamama · 05/09/2022 17:57

Can’t wait for my next scan! So keen to find out the sex!

ChristmasJumpers · 05/09/2022 18:25

Hi all, glad to see so many beautiful scans! I had my booking apt on Saturday and 13 week scan is booked for 15th September. I can't wait. I've been feeling really detached from the pregnancy, probably because of the relentless nausea, I am just not a good patient and feeling so useless around the house 😕
Hopefully things ease off in the second trimester 🤞

I am 9 lbs down so far through barely being able to eat. Midwife not happy as I had ketones in my urine sample which she says is likely from my body eating my fat stores. She prescribed cyclizine but its done nothing for the nausea and just gives me huge hits of fatigue so I don't think I'll keep taking it. Has anyone found it helps with nausea or is it more for actual sickness?

Dreamingof3 · 05/09/2022 18:42

@ChristmasJumpers I have felt like this too, like the sickness has stopped me getting excited. I had cyclizine and it mostly helped with the actual sickness, I still had the awful nausea, but could at least eat something. It also made me really tired at first but I found that got better after a few days

Franklin321 · 05/09/2022 18:45

NHS dating scan today which bumped me forward to bang on 13 weeks and new due date 13th March! Having an elective section so guess baby will arrive the week before 😍

Eastybaby19 · 05/09/2022 18:59
