Ladies, how would you describe a kick?

not a fluttering, but a kick. Is it painful? How long does it last?

Cats23 · 29/09/2022 16:28

@havanamama -
At this stage its like someone has 'flicked' their finger against your stomach, lasts a second and you question if it was a klittle kick or ypur imagination!
I'm only 14weeks but have felt a few flicks and some movement- Like someone rolling an egg over my stomach in a tiny area.

When bigger, feels like a little punch.

Shouldnt be painful in the early stages of movement.

havanamama · 29/09/2022 17:05

Thank you @Cats23 , must be round ligament pain then

I’d second this. At the moment it’s all quite “hmmm, was that something?!”
There will be no doubt later on though!

hellosunshineagainxxx · 29/09/2022 17:29

Been told I have low papp-a and terrified, has anyone else had this? I'm almost 16 weeks

iratepirate · 29/09/2022 17:36

@hellosunshineagainxxx not this time around but I have had this in the past.

Have they suggested you take aspirin?

Room4onemore · 29/09/2022 19:39

Just taking a bath, I think I felt movement earlier, I just want to feel movement so I know everything is ok

TeddyBeans · 29/09/2022 19:43

@Room4onemore it's unnerving isn't it? I got my first kick in days this afternoon and the instant relief is a little bit overwhelming

Same, the feeling something / not knowing what it is , it’s so anxiety inducing!
I’m honestly relying on discharge, sore boobs and growing belly for some mental reassurance!
less than 3 weeks until the scan so can’t wait to see baby and also hope that in these weeks the movements will become undeniable

Bobduncan · 29/09/2022 12:22

In terms of getting jabs done, does anyone know if we can get the covid booster, flu and whooping cough jab done at the same time? Purely asking for my own convenience so I can limit my trip to the GP! 😀

I'm booked in to get all 3 of my jags just before my 20 week scan. They said if it's too much on the day I can tell them and only get 1 or 2 but to 100% get whooping cough

TeddyBeans · 29/09/2022 19:59

@havanamama I found the 12-20 week gap the worst last time round and the same this time. It just feels like no man's land waiting for appointments to make sure everything's okay. DS started moving regularly enough to be felt from 21-22 weeks an anterior placenta this time does make me worry it'll take longer to get regular movements from DD

@TeddyBeans ☹️ It’s our first, so I’m just not sure what feeling is what at this point at 17weeks
Got to keep patient :/

TeddyBeans · 29/09/2022 20:29

@havanamama I got what I can only think to be a headbutt at 17+3ish last time. It was this huge bump in my left hip, I'll never forget it. It's very odd trying to describe how it feels to be used as a punch bag from the inside... I'm sure it won't be long now until you feel regular movements

Hello yes they have. I just have been unhelpfully googling and the risks are terrifying. From what I can gather smokers usually get it but I haven't smoked a day in my life!

@hellosunshineagainxxx I've not experienced it but from what I read quickly just now it looks like you'll get extra monitoring to make sure all is well with baby. Try not to worry, as hard as that may be. Risks are risks, not certainties

I’ve never smoked either so unsure what had caused it.

As TeddyBeans says, hopefully just extra monitoring so that they can keep an eye on things.

Katlouise24 · 29/09/2022 23:36

Hi everyone! Do they take any blood tests at 16 week appointments? I fainted during my 12 week ones so nervous for my appointment tomorrow haha!

I had one, but that's because I am Rhesus Negative so they wanted to test for the babies blood type.
This was the only test I had and the only result I received, so I don't believe there are any 'usual' blood tests at this appointment.

There is contradicting advice about its safety in pregnancy. They keep changing their minds. On the government website it states two different things. One says safe and one says not enough evidence to conclude its safety in pregnancy. So I doubt they will give it unless you ask for it x

Sorry very late to the Covid vaccine chat but personally I have asked to have a booster this winter.

@Blondewave It’s not true that they keep changing their minds. The guidance is very very clear:

  • hundreds of thousands of pregnant women have had the vaccine around the world without adverse effects
  • miscarriage and still birth rates are consistently higher in unvaccinated women
  • pregnant women are much more vulnerable to the effects of Covid than non pregnant women (hence why we saw so many unvaccinated pregnant women in ICU last winter)
Good luck to everyone making their own decision, please read from reputable sources online.
botleybump · 30/09/2022 06:20

@Ubbee thanks for sharing. Could you reference your sources please so others may read them?

Ubbee · 30/09/2022 06:22

@Katlouise24 I’m also rhesus negative but no blood for me at 16 weeks. Just pee in a pot, blood pressure and the thing you have to breathe into.

iratepirate · 30/09/2022 06:37

I’m 17wks but still waiting for my booking apt. All I’ve had so far is the “12wk” scan. I think I got lost between two different hospitals as I live closer to one but my GP surgery would usually be covered by the other.

Ubbee · 30/09/2022 06:57

@botleybump of course 🙂here are some useful reads:

fullfact.org/health/pregnancy-advice-covid-vaccine-change/

Viki Male is an immunologists who specialises in pregnancy and has summarised and linked all the data here: drive.google.com/file/d/1_wHIYX-tGkGBPwuax7N8BxZPR4PTTCDm/view
I’ve included some screenshots too.

BMJ article: “The most frequently reported adverse pregnancy outcome was a combined outcome of miscarriage and stillbirth, reported by 1.4% of the vaccinated and 2.1% of the unvaccinated pregnant women.” www.bmj.com/content/378/bmj.o2013
