Morning all

Dex did another stupendous sleep... had to wake him up to feed him and take DC to school. Fingers crossed this is a pattern he is going to stick to.

Fettle- hope Toby is ok with the jabs... Dex has got his 2nd lot next week. What is the third injection for? Did they do the polio one in his mouth yet? Dex only had 2 jabs first time around. That Messiah was a bit gruesome!

mrs- any action overnight?

Seaside and Iampg- a lot of the lovely ladies on here were early- Bodders you were 38 wks, i think??

Sorry- so excited about the pending births that I cant remember what I was going to say to anyone else!

Mrs M you really are keeping us in suspense

Chooster · 09/02/2008 19:52

Have fun Greedy and welcome back Bodders!!!!

Thats a tricky on fettle - a couple of years ago I would have said go for the more challenging on as your kids will soon be in school and you'll still be able to progress your career in the field you've already made good progress in. But now my views have totally changed. I think the other job sounds ace and if you can manage on the reduced wage then I would definately go for that. Just think of all the great times you'll have with our kids during the holidays. I think the lack of childcare hassle is worth it alone. I just need to think of something similar, although I'm still hopeful I get to work part-time. Actually I met a lady today who also works for the same bank as me and she said they now have a job share register so you can register your desire to work in a share. It may mean a move to a different area - am in Corporate banking at the mo - but thats fine.

Better dash!!! Am f**ing knackered - Theo still has croup and yesterday was up coughing from 9pm and never really settled for long through the night - even made himself sick again with coughing poor bugger. I can't wait for it to pass but doc and chemist say there's nothing I can give him . Needless to say I cancelled my trip to see MrsMc on Thursday as Theo is too ill but hopefully I'll see her next week.

Take care all

fettleandbabyfettle · 10/02/2008 19:06

Hi All

Bodders - glad you had a good time! Poor Isla with her sore bottom, teething and no sleep. Must arrange meeting up - it is DD's half-term not this coming week, but one after, so could do something one day that week if you wanted? Just have to decide if I'm up to such a long journey with both DCs on my own, when I'm so tired - let's ponder it!

If it makes you feel any better Toby's sleeping is completely gone at the moment - none during the day or night now!! (well about 2-3 hrly bursts during the night and 20-40 min power naps during the day!). Sign of intelligence my Mum tells me, so just keep repeating it to yourself and thinking smugly of poor Greedy's DCs struggling with too much sleep!!. Only joking Greedy, it is obviously a total fallacy!! But it makes me a feel a little better sometimes, but at 2am last night, I can really see how people lose it with their babies/cups of tea!!!

I've started on the baby-rice - following she who must not be named's method of weaning as it worked really well with DD, so we've had 3 days of rice now, so onto pear tomorrow!! He smiles his way through it all, so i think he finds it a pleasant experience! Just hope I see some improvement on the sleep soon!

CHooster - poor Theo and poor you - it must be awful seeing him so unhappy and being unable to do anything about it - have they given you any idea of how long it might last for? think he can be excused his sleeplessness, but it doesn't make it any easier for you! Your job share thing
sounds hopeful -I have a good school friend who works for a big scottish bank in Edinburgh, who works part-time (would be strange to think that you knew her!). Can't remember exactly which bank it is though!

City - the bath sling that Chooster linked to, is the same that I have too (and you can remove the towelling bit and wash it, so it does remain white - well that's what I've done with mine! (or else my children are just super clean compared with Greedy's!!)

Greeds - hope you have a fantastic time on Anglesay! hope the weather is good for and your DC are angels all week - we will miss you lots!

Honey - how you and Dex doing?

Iampg - hope no news is good news from you.

Seaside/Mrs - hope you are both doing well with your little ones - hope you come back soon to visit us!!

thanks for your thoughts on the job front - I think I've probably left it a bit late for school job, should have moved on it last week, but I was too tired from sleepless nights - think I'm going to stick with my old job, but stick to my guns to working part-time, but then it is 32 miles away - oh so tricky - why didn't I win the lottery on Saturday night?!.

Hope you all sleep well!
xxx

honeyapple · 11/02/2008 10:24

morning all

Well I reckon Iampg must have had Oscar by now... let's hope she comes on MN soon with the details.

Can't believe Mrs has not been on yet! How old is Xavier now??

Fettle- how is the baby rice going? Cant wait to start Dex on some food, he's started the staring intently at anyone eating anything- I had to resist giving him a taste of DD's yoghurt yesterday!

Greedy- my kids arent on half term till next week- are you away this week?

Chooster- how is theo? Have you made another plan to see Mrs?

dex complaining- better go and give him a cuddle
bye for now xx

I am feeling rotten, I have had a cough and cold for two weeks now and still feel awful. Yesterday spent the afternoon in bed asleep, but did not seem to do much for me. I feel so horrible, if it were not for me being sole bread-winner in the family at the moment and in-eligable for sick pay, I would be at home in bed. But I know if I take time off I will feel worse due to feeling guilty about not earning the money we need to pay the mortgage. Arggggg. Sorry just wanted to blurt to someone, hope you don't mind.

fettleandbabyfettle · 11/02/2008 13:30

poor you, rainbowy! hope you better soon - tis miserable being ill, especially on your own and having to work too - not too long now until you are home and back with your loved-ones!

big warm-cup-o-soup hug!!!

fettleandbabyfettle · 11/02/2008 13:32

ps My mum arrived an hour ago - she's amusing DD, Toby is miraculously still asleep from the car drive and I'm drinking before-said warm cup of soup!!! Oh bliss for a week!!! (just need some proper night's sleep now, Toby-tots!!).

He seemed to like pear this morning, but made some interesting faces while eating it! Taking it very slowly still!

take care all

honeyapple · 11/02/2008 17:59

rainbowdays- big cyber hug going your way . Really hope you start feeling better- eat lots of fruit and veg... or cup-a-soup

Fettle- how many weeks is Toby? I cant remember how many weeks dex is... I know he was three months on the 5th... Did you puree the pear yourself? Or was it from a jar? Going to really try hard this time around to make more of my own babyfood. Better dust of Annabel Karmel book .

Bodders- meant to say 'welcome home' grin. Poor Isla with her sore bottie again- she is a sensitive wee girlie.

Just given Dex a bath and he has now fallen asleep in his chair- looks so cosy and sweet in clean jim jams. .

got to go and try to get DD to practise her ballet dance...

OP posts:
fettleandbabyfettle · 11/02/2008 19:38

Hi Honey - think toby was 20 weeks last Wednesday, so 21 weeks this wednesday! He'll be 5 calendar months on the 19th, so a week today!). Bit early to be weaning, but it was 20 weeks when we weaned DD and I need to try something to get some more sleep - although I know I'm not going to get immediate results on that front. We weren't so successful with baby rice this evening, as he was pushing more out and down his neck than swallowing I think. He also started grabbing the spoon! But it's his first supper-time food, so was probably not as hungry as he is at lunchtime. See how tomorrow goes!

But it was home-cooked pear and pureed - didn't realise it is still quite grainy though once cooked. But he seemed to like it. She who must not be named, suggests 3 days of one food before moving onto the next, so he has another 2 days of pear before moving onto probably sweet potato (bought some today - haven't eaten them in ages, so going to try roasting them for us to eat - I assume that's a good way to eat them?!). Got our Karmel book out the other week, can't believe I read it today to find out how to cook pear, but I did!!!

Right, hoping for another early night tonight - hope some of the new mummies pop by soon, as I'm missing newborn baby heads to virtually sniff!!!

Hi all

First of all, Rainbow - poor you, you sound really miserable, its crap being poorly and preggers and having to work. Hope you can rest up soon.

Yup, I reckon Oscar has landed! Hope all is well with Iamamumatlast!

Fettle - sorry to hear Toby's sleep has gone up the spout too. It's so funny how all these babies are following the same pattern - I see Toby is doing exactly the same as Isla did.... the 4 month growth spurt they call it apparently...

Well, I don't want to speak too soon, but I have decided to get tough with Isla and cut out the night feed. Night 3 tonight, so we'll see how we get on...
Night 1 went well, she woke at 12.20 and I ignored her, and she went back to sleep after 5 mins. Then she woke again at 2.45 and I ignored her again and she cried intermittantly for about 30 mins, then back to sleep until 7.15am!!!!!
Night 2 (last night) she woke at 2.10 and cried intermittantly until about 2.30 when she started really howling, so I sent DP into check on her, and she had flipped herself onto her back, so he turned her back over and she went straight to sleep, until 7.10am, and only woke then cos DD1 wanted to go and see her.

So that just goes to show that the night feeds were actually making her sleep worse, because she was waking at 2.30 ish, I'd feed her and then she'd be up at 5.30/6ish and up for the day, but knackered and grumpy all day. The last 2 days she has been absolutely delightful! And her bum is better now too, so what with the sun shining as well I feel like we've turned a massive corner (until the next tooth comes through )

I've got to recommend this baby-led weaning. She's really got the hang of it now and sits in her highchair gnashing on broccoli, rice, carrot, small pieces of chicken, anything that comes her way off our plates really... it is quite incredible to see her manoevering the grub into her mouth!

Anyway, it's lovely to come on feeling positive and enjoying my baby, after the last few months of grimness! I have had absolultely no urges to throw teacups the last 2 days at all

greedygreedyguzzler · 11/02/2008 21:50

hello all! still in anglesey at the inlaws and a bit bored so i am on the pc!!! they watch some crap TV........or more like, they don't watch crap TV which is the type i like best!

firsty - what are you having done then? how long will you be in hospital? will you be ok lifting ty? hope you are ok

yes honey - my kids are on half term this week, i know its early, but i think its good cos dh is away in Malaysia next week and we would miss him more if it was half term and he was away. i still hate him going though..........bastard!

bodders - welcome back. sorry about islas bot and i am sure her sleeping will settle soon. its hard when they start teething though isnt it? i reckon i might get a few weeks of good sleep then marcy will start sprouting teeth and get all messed up with her sleep again.

fettle - i agree with you, marcy is probably very simple! she still grins stupidly all the time......................but!!!.............yesterday we had our first proper giggle!!! and more today! its been a while coming but was worth it. she also had a real proper cry yesterday. she was with my M-i-l and started getting upset and my intsinct was to grab her off her, but i resisted and tried to let her calm her down, but she got more and more worked up. i kept saying "if you want me to take her just let me know" but mil was determined to try and placate her. in the end i got dh to grab marcy off mil, but she was in such a state by then that she took a while to calm down poor little thing. ironically it was almost as soon as she calmed down that she did her giggle! so she obviously found the whole experience hysterical rather than traumatic!!!

chooster - i really hope poor little theo gets better soon, it must be so tiring for all of you. i hate it when they are ill. get better soon theo for mummy and you!

fettle - i DID wash the toweling bit, but then some friends came to stay and they had a much newer one and i realised that our one wasn't white at all anymore! my kids aren't really scummy, if anything the older two have OCD and are a bit obsessed with being clean.....actually thats just dd1 really..............is that just a girl thing??

ok.......iampg.......how did it go? cant wait to hear your news.

byeeeeeeeeeeeeeee everyone! off to bed and then for another crap nights sleep in the tiniest double bed in the world!!!

greedygreedyguzzler · 11/02/2008 21:56

crossed with you bodders..................lovely to hear you sounding so chirpy! thats what a good nights sleep does for you! glad isla is being a good girl at night...............and whats all this about a 4 month growth spurt??? marcy was 4 months yesterday!!!!! dont tell her!!

sorry rainbowdays - i missed your post....get better soon. you are the next to pop arent you??!

my sis hasnt had any more bleeding whoever asked, but she doesnt have any symptoms either. i know she is only 6 1/2 wks and lots of people dont get symptoms, but her boobs are massive normally and i would have tthought they would be a bit sore cos i remember mine were agony every night once i took my bra off. i told her to lie and say she had bled again cos they said they would scan her if she had more bleeding.............do you think that is naughty? i would definately do that if it was me cos otherwise she has to wait till 13 wks for a scan

seaside72 · 11/02/2008 22:50

Hi all - just wanted to say I am here and trying to catch up - I promise to post properly soon.

All is going well - Cassius is a angel so far - although have to say I am soooo of greedy having a 7-7.30 sleep - It feels like I will never have more than 3 consecutive hours sleep ever again!!

He is feeding well and guzzling it down - I am expressing still and it is OK but much more tiring than I imagined - pumping for around three hours a day - I have tried to be on laptop while pumping but one handed typing gets too frustrating - might get out some duck tape soon and tape the thing on me! We have managed one successful BF with help of my cranial osteopath but not on our own. Although have to say I am getting a bit fed up of every local BF councillor under the sun calling me and telling me what I should be doing - TBH the more they call/visit the more I just want to say - he's on formula go away!!

Have been inundated with visitors, family and friends - looking forward to a breather next week when it will just be DH and I for the first time (if only for week!)

Unfortunately have been having a testing time with our old dog - he is on deaths door (again) and has us up in the night as much as Cassius - arghhh

Greedy - big hugs for your sis - hope news is good
Bodkin - hope baboon bum is better soon. Is tere a good book on baby led weaning?
Chooster - Hope Theo is better soon too
fettle - go for the easier job option!! Then again I am now devoid of all ambition so slightly biased
firsty - Well done Ty of for sleeping through- I am Hope your ticker is doing OK and the op went well and you are home soon hon - take care
rainbow - poor you hon - hope you are feeling better soon - take it easy on yourself - big hugs
honey - When will you start weaning Dex -soon? I need some serious tutorials in all these things that I have to come!!
City - I ahve the bath support too - in fact we gave Cass his first bath last week and he liked it (well he did not cry just went "eh eh eh eh eh" !

I promise to be a better poster next week when we have no guests etc - am also composing a list of questions for al you lovely ladies as you are my gurus!

Right off to prepare for bed and feed and pump - yawn!

Love to all

God, sorry, I just realised how me me me my last post was! Firsty - I didn't even mention you and there you are all laid up in hospital! So sorry, that's totally rubbish of me! Hope the op goes well today. Don't worry, you are not redundant. My DP always tells me things are going great when I'm not around, I think they do it to put our minds at rest - but really they are struggling as much as we do. also, there's the novelty factor. Sounds like Ty is going great guns with his sleeping now - well done! I knew I spoke too soon last night.... things not brilliant with Isla last night - she kept dropping off then waking herself up again - between 3 and 5am. Then DD1 comes charging in at 6.30 waking us all up again grrrr. Still, 2 steps forward, 1 step back - she seems very chirpy today even though she didn't sleep that well, so not all bad.

Chooster - I forgot you as well, with your poor Croupy little lad. Hope he's on the mend and you can catch up on some sleep soon.

Seaside - wow, sounds like you have been very busy what with visitors and all that pumping! Sounds like you are being harrassed by the BF brigade! Your poor doggie - not what you need at the moment with the broken nights as well. Not sure if there is a book on it, but if you look at the weaning threads on here, there's loads of advice about it. I think Isla has really only taken to it now she can sit up a bit better (7 months), so the key thing is not to stress about it and let baby do it in their own time - if they're not ready, chill out, give 'em plenty of milk and try again in a couple of weeks. They're not going to just fade away if you don't start weaning at 6 months on the dot - some babies are ready earlier than 6 months, some later.

Greedy - can't believe Marcy has got to 4 months and has only just done her first proper cry... definitely simple Nah, not really, she has obviously inherited your cheerful disposition Giggles are great - Isla's been a slow starter, but she is doing them now - mainly at DD1, she doesn't find my jokes funny in the least
I think if your sister has not had anymore bleeding then I wouldn't worry too much about the lack of symptoms - some people just don't get any. Has she done any more tests to reassure herself - are they still +++?

OK gotta go - the baby bouncer is no longer holding it's appeal for Isla....

iampgatlast · 12/02/2008 14:24

iampg! Congratulations! Wow- 8lb 13 is pretty impressive for number 1! So happy for you, and also cant wait to hear all the details. Take each day as it comes.

Minxi- hiya- of course you will all be over here soon . I'll have to pop by the temp thread to say hi to Lottie.

Bodders- lovely to hear you sounding chirpy. Dex has just decided to start waking up at night ... thought it was too good to last! He woke up at 2.30am and then was up and down with him until the morning. I guess it must be this 4 mth thing ... Think I might be weaning him before 6mths!

Greedy- how's anglesey?

Seaside- lovely to hear from you. Dont get stressed out with the BF brigade- tell em to sod off! I told the MW who was trying to help me to feed my DS1 to go away! I had enough of strangers fiddling with my boobs. I would keep having a go yourself if you feel like it- You must be so tired with the expressing- poor you - but top marks for effort.

Mrs- are you still on this planet???? Sorry- just really missing you!

Firsty- hope op goes well- and dont worry about Ty- and you are SO totally needed! I bet DH is tearing his hair out- whilst pretending to be cool .

hi to all the other lovely ladies (or fat, bald, bored truckers from Bolton...)

iampg - big CONGRATULATIONS on the birth of Oscar, enjoy being a new mummy, come and tell us all about it when you are ready, I hope you get a swift recovery.

Mrs - I miss you too.

Firststar - I hope you have a rapid recovery too. Take care of yourself.

Greedy - hope that no more bleeding is a good sign with your sis, hope that all progresses well even without symptoms.

Seaside - wow I am so impressed with your continuing expressing, it is such hard work, but I can also understand you wanting to tell all those bf do-gooders to go away too. Hope you find a way to pump and type , I did manage to hold a double pump in place with one hand and type hap-hazardly with the other after a while, but it is not easy!

Minxi - hi! sure you will be here soon permanently.

hi to everyone else, will try to catch up again soon when I have stopped coughing.

Chooster · 12/02/2008 22:12

Just a very quick one to say congratulations Iampg!! Have been checking but am too tired to post properly. Hope little Oscar is settling in well - He was a good size .

Hello everyone else - I promise I'll catch up soon, but pureed pear calls!!!! He is loving his food - so excited whenever he sees a spoon coming towards him and sleep is getting better - need to stop him pooing at 5am though - any suggestions?

Also so pleased to hear happy Bodkin family and that Theo is improving Chooster!!!!!!

back later.

honeyapple · 13/02/2008 11:31

morning

Well! What a difference a night makes! I ended up giving Dex a bottle of formula last night cos he had been sucking on me all evening and was still unsettled- anyway, I put him to bed at 9.30pm and apart from a couple of times when he woke up- but then went back to sleep after a pat and a dummy rescue- he woke up at 7.30am! That is the longest ever... needless to say my boobs were so uncomfortable in the morning I couldnt get out of bed to get him (well of course I could- but much better to stay in bed and get DP to get him for me and then for him to sort out the others whilst I was feeding!) I have just put him back to bed- new routine plan to get him into specific 'nap' times- rather than just dozing. Just got a load of Hipp weaning stuff delivered- offer from their website... not planning to start yet, dont worry bodders!

Very excited to hear more from Iampg- def have to change your name now!

Chooster- v glad to hear that Theo is getting better- he's been ill for a long time .

My SIL has got a date for her c-section- 11th march... so I am really looking forward to sniffing a real life newborn!

Rainbow- when are you due?? Sorry- cant remember .

cityangel- you soon will have loads of experience .

The baby monitor has gone quiet!

ANyone got any summer holiday plans yet? I have been looking into booking a villa somewhere- but finding it very hard to find somewhere close enough to walk to a nice kid friendly beach... most seem to be car drives away which I would rather avoid- any suggestions? Or companies you have booked with? ta

OP posts:
honeyapple · 13/02/2008 11:35

hi fettle- no suggestions for the poo thing- is he awake at 5am when he is pooing? Do you hear him pooing? I can really tell when Dex is about to poo- he tenses up and you can feel him tummy muscles clenching and pushing! Maybe I should be doing that no nappy thing!! Ha ha ha!! whats it called?? Bodders you'd know...
