@OceanbreezeSun excited to hear from you, as I know you had an eventful weekend... ❤❤

STom2 · 23/01/2023 14:46

@ChangeHtotheP Have you tried writing a birth plan? As you can cover explicitly what you want to happen in a multitude of different scenarios. For example, I'm having an elective C Section so I outlined everything I want to happen before, during and after the birth (moreseo as I learned from my experience last time). But some of what I covered was also what I want to happen should I need to have a general anaesthetic - ie still wanting baby to be placed on my chest as quickly as possible.

Writing something up, and talking it through with your partner helps as well. As they can advocate for you in any situation where you are unable to. My DH equally learned about the pitfalls of my last C section so knows exactly what I want to happen this time around.

drV · 23/01/2023 15:20

@ChangeHtotheP aww that's not nice isn't it! You need more support and all of it they can offer.. sad that they aren't keeping up with it!

It's kind of similar with me, I am 36+1 , just stopped aspirin yesterday and quite a few other medical issues as well; but I haven't been given a date yet.. my midwife is lovely and very supportive, said she would've booked a date for me if I had gone with vaginal delivery.

Hope things get settled soon for us! It's not long to go now😬

RedElleJ · 23/01/2023 16:09

Hey everyone,

Exciting to hear everyone getting close to the finish line. I know it probably still feels like a long stretch but it will come round soon enough. I am counting down the days to Mat leave...wish I stopped this week but still have two to go!

Just wondering if anyone has any experience with a breech baby? My little one seems to have changed from head down to breech...this hasn't been confirmed yet but the midwife had some strong suspicions, as do I to be honest. Presentation scan is this Friday.

I've been quite down about it all really and after researching how to turn a breech baby, I kept stumbling across worrying sentences that suggest breech can be caused by birth defects.

Anyway, if anyone has any experience/recommendations I would greatly appreciate it. Also, if anyone has some words of wisdom from having a c-section when you really wanted a vaginal birth that would be fab too.

🙋‍♀️🙋‍♀️ My son was breech the entire way through my pregnancy, he didn't turn once! Omg the rib pain as his head grew I will never forget. My consultant realllly pushed for an ECV where they manually turn the baby pushing on your bump, I can't comment on this as I refused. I've had a friend who had one and it worked! But I just had a bad feeling because he hadn't turned once that their was a reason for that, so I didn't want to force him. I did try a lot at home from the spinning babies website so take a look at that. We also went to some strange Chinese place for moxibustion, they burnt these weird stick things by my feet? Blush It didn't work but was amusing Grin In the end he didn't want to budge for love nor money so I was booked in for an elective caesarean at 39 weeks, I went into early labour at 37+5 so my section was done that day as an 'emergency' but wasn't really that urgent, just pushed up unexpectedly. They said I'd feel some mild tugging during it, and I felt like they were bodyslamming me against the bed. My husband looked traumatised. My sons head was proper lodged in my ribs! He came out looking absolutely perfect regardless. I joked to my midwife "he doesn't look all squished and weird" and she said yes section babies do come out looking perfect Grin He had to have a scan when he was a bit bigger, I can't remember when, maybe at 12 weeks, to check his hips due to being breech but all was clear and he was fine! Just awkward!

Skylark1990 · 23/01/2023 17:21

@RedElleJ Definitely don't worry about birth defects, I don't think that's really a thing at all! Never heard it before! Some babies just like to sit breech. I would echo @doingitalllagain and try all the spinning babies website techniques, as well as putting frozen peas where her head currently is and a hot water bottle where you want the head to do. Also acupuncture/moxibustion can help - worth a try! My LO also seems to be breech/ transverse a lot at the moment, I'm trying not to worry as I am obviously much further behind, only 29 weeks but it does make me nervous. I'm already doing the spinning babies stuff haha.
You can also have a breech vaginal birth if you wish - if you want to consider this, speak to the people at your hospital about it to ascertain their skill - sadly it is no longer commonly taught because people default to sections BUT it really is just a variation of normal, and beech babies are still delivered vaginally safely all over the world. I've heard the term 'hands off the breech' thrown around to guide breech vaginal birth, i.e. let the mother move and do it herself as much as poss, rather than trying to get involved with instruments.

STom2 · 23/01/2023 19:31

@RedElleJ My DS was oblique breach and would not move no matter what I tried!! I even tried the ECV and to be quite honest, I don't recommend it at all. Very painful and he didn't budge. I was booked in for an elective CS at 39+3 and he didn't come any sooner so that all went to plan. My recovery after was very smooth and I had no issues with breastfeeding immediately. When he was 6 weeks old we had a scan of his hips to make sure he didn't have hip dysplasia (which can sometimes happen if they have been in breach position for a long period). He didn't, but even if this had been the case I understand it would simply mean wearing a leg/hip brace for a few weeks. Millie McIntoshs first baby had this.

I'm booked in for another CS at 39 weeks with this LO. As I felt on the whole my experience with DS was positive and I like the planned element. We also noted that this baby is parked in exact same oblique breach position on the same side (so it's clearly down to the shape of my uterus and they just get comfy over there). I was surprised to be told at my final scan today that this baby is head down. But he is still technically in an oblique breach position. Regardless I'm still planning on going ahead with the planned C section date so I'm crossing my fingers he doesn't come before then.

RedElleJ · 23/01/2023 19:48

Thanks for all the info and stories guys - super glad to hear that the sections were a positive experience too! I have been feeling really upset about possibly not having the choice for a natural birth. Think I will need to surround myself with positive c-section stories to help me out. Maybe I will get them prepped for my husband too @doingitalllagain haha!

@doingitalllagain my midwife mentioned moxibustion and acupuncture - I am all for holistic practises but when mat leave is coming up it's a pricey endeavour for a, 'it might work.' I decided a while ago that I wouldn't want an ECV, the risk to reward ratio just isn't worth it for me personally. I've heard a lot of ECV comments similar to you @STom2 so, yeah I am confident that I won't be going down that route.

Interesting how you felt baby at your ribs @doingitalllagain - baby girl feels high but I can't feel her near my ribs...maybe that is to come haha! I am still secretly hoping she is head down - she was head down at my growth scan so i really do have my fingers crossed.

Glad that breastfeeding went well @STom2 - my friend has just had a c-section and the same seems to be ringing true for her so staying positive about that element for sure.

I have had a nosey at spinning babies @Skylark1990 - just don't want to do the movements without my husband home as a safety net. However, I know that bridging and child's pose can be beneficial too so could try those. Yeah, I did read it is possible to have a natural breech birth and that it depends on the experience of those at the hospital. I think it will just depend on my anxiety levels around the whole situation. Ideally, I would like to go into spontaneous labour and then have the c-section that day; however, I don't know if they would let me. Lots of questions and lots of what ifs for now but I suppose I can start making more concrete decisions after the scan on Friday.

doingitalllagain · 23/01/2023 20:13

@redellej Honestly my c-section ended up suddenly happening nearly 3 weeks early, I had driven myself to the hospital and my husband was frantically trying to find a way to me on time as we share a car, I felt so overwhelmed how quick it all happened going in, it was slightly rough at parts and baby came out not crying and there was a 2 min panic until he was sorted - and I still remember it as an overall positive experience! I healed really easily and once he was passed to me I was just on cloud 9. I mean this as a positive not a negative, I genuinely look back fondly now on it and the care I had! I'm quite looking forward to having another on Thursday Grin

OceanbreezeSun · 24/01/2023 22:00

Hi all!

I hope you and your babies are all doing ok?

I’ve been abit quiet - as we welcomed our beautiful baby boy not long ago💙😄
We are all doing well and just enjoying all the newborn cuddles.

I’m so happy to say I had a very positive labour and birth. I thought I’d share it with you, as I know reading positive stories helped me - sorry it’s long😳

I was quite anxious about my induction (after my experience with dd & both of us having to stay in hospital for a week)
but I tried to go in with a positive outlook and made sure I was more informed about my choices then last time.

The consultant and I had discussed a ‘gentle’ induction - so I was given the 24 hr pessary, after 24 hrs, I was checked to see if I had dilated/cervix softened. I was having regular tightenings all day but they were not painful. The mw could see these on the monitor and feel them pulsate, so a very good sign something was happening.

Baby boy monitored regularly - all good, so we could continue the gentler approach ( I wanted to avoid ‘the drip’) The mw did a sweep , waited 4 or 5 hours, then inserted the 6hr tablet to help soften cervix more. I settled down for the night & was just about to go to sleep, when I felt suddenly felt a loud pop… waters broke and there was ALOT of water

I rang dh, who had left hospital about 2 hours prior.
Luckily, he had already put dd to bed, who was fast asleep, my mum was already at our house, so he was able to get to the hospital in half an hour.

The delivery room was lovely & calm with a starlight projector & I had two lovely mw, one of whom had helped look after me the day before on the induction ward.

Baby boy was born safely less than 4 hours later, weighing 8lbs! Gas & air were my best friends, pushing for about 15 mins. I got a small tear, that just needed a few stitches, healing nicely. I was able to move around, most labouring done stood up leaning over the bed, Dh was a great support & he got to cut the cord.
Skin to skin straight away ( I didn’t get to do this till almost 2 hours later with dd) and they left us alone for a good few hours, just checking in every so often. I honestly felt on cloud 9 the whole time, it was so calm & very surreal, it already feels like it happened along time ago, not less than 5 days ago!
We were all back home 8 hours later❤️

Dd loves her little brother (she’s not keen on the crying though🤣) & we are enjoying these lazy days as a family of four.

I really look forward to hearing from you all as you get nearer to meeting your lovely babies. Not long now! X

Lmcc88 · 24/01/2023 22:56

@OceanbreezeSun oh congratulations and welcome to the world baby boy!

Sounds like you had a really positive experience! Glad it went well and that you guys are having a lovely time as a family of
four!

drV · 24/01/2023 23:09

Oh @OceanbreezeSun such an incredible birth story 💙 congratulations to you and the family! Welcome new baby🥰

Take care both of you xx

MooBugz · 24/01/2023 23:32

Congratulations @OceanbreezeSun and well done mama!! 🥳

Lovely birth story and so pleased it went nicely. Now that's the first baby here won't be long till the others pop up can't wait!

I'm going to try for VBAC but will have a date for a CSec if baby is not here naturally by due date so here's hoping for next week or week after where I will be 39 weeks (prev naturals born at 38 + 39 wks) and hoping for minor or no tears 🙈

All the best to everyone we're almost there 🥰 x

Congratulations @OceanbreezeSun ! The first baba! Sounds like you were really in control and had a good experience.

Have you got name yet? Enjoy the snuggles 😘

Congratulations @OceanbreezeSun!!! Enjoy all the snuggles. I can’t believe we’re now at a stage where the babies are starting to arrive, it’s scary but so exciting!!

Good luck @doingitalllagain. 😁

RedElleJ · 25/01/2023 19:15

Congrats @OceanbreezeSun So happy to hear about your positive experience and that you are home safe and well x

OceanbreezeSun · 25/01/2023 19:35

Thank you everyone💓

I hope the next coming weeks are as relaxing as possible for you all x

@doingitalllagain So exciting! How are you feeling?
I felt ok the night before the induction but on the day (we went into hospital in the morning) I felt nervous, once I was there though, I was very matter of fact, it was more like ‘well, there’s no turning back now!’ 😄

doingitalllagain · 25/01/2023 19:44

Thanks all! I'm a bit of a wreck @OceanbreezeSun BlushGrin I'm nervous and excited, I'm due in the hospital at 7am with surgery booked for 9am Shock I can't believe he'll be here in the morning. I'm just hoping it's all straightforward and he comes out healthy with no breathing difficulties as I know there are higher chances of those with sections before 39 weeks. Just hoping for the best. My stomach is doing somersaults!

madeinthe80z · 25/01/2023 19:54
