Biggest shock of my life

I've joined this group specifically because I need to talk about what I've just discovered - 44 years old, unprotected s$x with my husband for well over 20 years (had a miscarriage with him when I was 21) - resigned myself to never having a baby of my own. Every time a friend or colleague got pregnant I became more comfortable with it just being me and him for the rest of our lives....
I thought my period was due, sore boobs etc. Had some very light spotting yesterday which I assumed was the start of my period, then nothing. Realised period was late (usually 28 days like clockwork), funny taste in my mouth, super sensitive sense of smell. Thought it was in my head but went to get a test anyway (part of me kind of 'knew') - got a very strong positive - didn't believe it so did another. Then went back to get a digital one which says 3+ weeks. I daren't be happy yet, I'm just stunned.

Amazing and wonderful.

A friend of mine just had a baby at 45 after an unexpected pregnancy at 44 after many years of infertility. She's loving motherhood as I know you will @Shocked44 Good luck with it all.

SashaMannDeservedBetter · 23/08/2022 19:32

Congratulations! My Mother had me at 41, and my sister and brother (twins) at 45. It was her second marriage and she wasn’t blessed with children during her first.

This is amazing and I will be following your progress.

Not sure if this is at all relevant but I’ve spent a bit of time in EPUs recently and have found them to be incredibly supportive and kind places so I think things have changed somewhat. Please don’t be scared to use them.

Mrssophie · 23/08/2022 19:56

Can’t wait to hear how it went telling your DH your lovely news! So so happy for you.

TheCutter · 23/08/2022 20:02

Aw, huge congratulations, op!

To be honest, if something bad were to happen, you'd be devastated no matter what you feel now. So I'd actually just say enjoy the moment and repeat to yourself that today you are pregnant. This is coming from someone who had lots of issues to conceive (male factor), a missed miscarriage from a natural pregnancy, a son from icsi and a natural pregnancy (which should never have happened according to doctors) right now at 17 weeks, all good so far.

Wishing you all the best!

So pleased for you

ivykaty44 · 23/08/2022 20:14

you can book yourself in for a private scan, obviously you'd need to pay but it may give you some reassurance before 19th September.

Shocked44 · 23/08/2022 20:15

Thanks again for all the lovely supportive messages. Hubby seemingly knows my body better than I do and knew I was late and was wondering himself if it might be possible! He’s over the moon, stunned and shocked, but really happy!

This is such good advice. I can’t change whatever the future has in store for me so I’m taking each day at a time and, like you say, enjoying it too :-) xx
