Biggest shock of my life

I've joined this group specifically because I need to talk about what I've just discovered - 44 years old, unprotected s$x with my husband for well over 20 years (had a miscarriage with him when I was 21) - resigned myself to never having a baby of my own. Every time a friend or colleague got pregnant I became more comfortable with it just being me and him for the rest of our lives....
I thought my period was due, sore boobs etc. Had some very light spotting yesterday which I assumed was the start of my period, then nothing. Realised period was late (usually 28 days like clockwork), funny taste in my mouth, super sensitive sense of smell. Thought it was in my head but went to get a test anyway (part of me kind of 'knew') - got a very strong positive - didn't believe it so did another. Then went back to get a digital one which says 3+ weeks. I daren't be happy yet, I'm just stunned.

Massive congrats!! Really hope you have a happy and healthy full term pregnancy!
Very similar story here with the surprise shock pregnancy. Only difference is we already had 2 older DC and actually too scared to try for anymore so called it quits. (Previous history of still births) I turned 41, missed a period, thought was start of menopause only to find out was 6 weeks pregnant! Massive shock, but have a beautiful heathy baby girl now. I never would’ve tried for another, but so glad it happened.

Oysterbabe · 23/08/2022 19:24

How wonderful. Huge congratulations.

Pegasushaswings · 23/08/2022 19:26

Lovely news! I’m an older Mum too, although I needed help but I had a really easy pregnancy and although I ended up having an EMCS my DD is fine and just perfect. Don’t let them boss you around once you get into the system and enjoy your pregnancy.

CactusBlossom · 23/08/2022 19:26

Congratulations!
