Biggest shock of my life

I've joined this group specifically because I need to talk about what I've just discovered - 44 years old, unprotected s$x with my husband for well over 20 years (had a miscarriage with him when I was 21) - resigned myself to never having a baby of my own. Every time a friend or colleague got pregnant I became more comfortable with it just being me and him for the rest of our lives....
I thought my period was due, sore boobs etc. Had some very light spotting yesterday which I assumed was the start of my period, then nothing. Realised period was late (usually 28 days like clockwork), funny taste in my mouth, super sensitive sense of smell. Thought it was in my head but went to get a test anyway (part of me kind of 'knew') - got a very strong positive - didn't believe it so did another. Then went back to get a digital one which says 3+ weeks. I daren't be happy yet, I'm just stunned.

Congratulations. This was me last year! I was about to celebrate my 39th birthday and the notion came over me to test. Seeing the positive was the biggest shock of my life! We'd unsuccessfully tried to have a baby for 8 years so we thought it could never happen.

Even I'd read these miracle stories and would never in a million years think it could happen to me. Miracles were for other people. But I'm cuddling my 9 month old miracle right now.

Huge congratulations to you and your DH. I'm excited to follow your journey like I did with @Omgwhatthehell

Blossomhoney · 23/08/2022 20:36

Congratulations 🎉

Aria2015 · 23/08/2022 20:42

Congratulation! This might sound underhand, but generally if you say you have no clue when your last period was, they'll usually give you an early scan to date your pregnancy... You can of course pay for an early scan also. Best of luck!

Oh wow, how amazing!

That's so funny you said that because I've researched and some say older mums and strong line can be indictive of twins too! My mum said same. That would be an even bigger blessing - right now just staying positive and thanking everyone for all the positive vibes!

Ah when I get pregnant at 44 my Hungary friend called it my late harvest. Only one baby.

Went with my DIL to her first scan when i saw the second little prawn type wriggler on the scan I was over the moon for her

Twins are a very high chance for you.

Congratulations mummy

Congratulations!!

@Shocked44 As this is such a precious pregnancy, may I suggest you get in touch with the private wing of your local nhs maternity hospital?

There are blood tests they can do to check if you need any help increasing the chances of a healthy pregnancy.

For instance, thresholds for thyroid are much lower in pregnancy, if they’re slightly out then that can prevent the pregnancy continuing. Also progesterone, if levels are slightly too low.

I am thinking of thyroid particularly, as the closer we edge to menopause the more likely we are to have problems with thyroid.

Going private means you’re likely to be seen this week and by someone more senior.

VeronicaFranklin · 23/08/2022 21:03

Oh wow, congratulations!
