Biggest shock of my life

I've joined this group specifically because I need to talk about what I've just discovered - 44 years old, unprotected s$x with my husband for well over 20 years (had a miscarriage with him when I was 21) - resigned myself to never having a baby of my own. Every time a friend or colleague got pregnant I became more comfortable with it just being me and him for the rest of our lives....
I thought my period was due, sore boobs etc. Had some very light spotting yesterday which I assumed was the start of my period, then nothing. Realised period was late (usually 28 days like clockwork), funny taste in my mouth, super sensitive sense of smell. Thought it was in my head but went to get a test anyway (part of me kind of 'knew') - got a very strong positive - didn't believe it so did another. Then went back to get a digital one which says 3+ weeks. I daren't be happy yet, I'm just stunned.

Wonderful news - congratulations! I too had resigned myself to never having children after several miscarriages (in my 30s) and also at the age of 44 unexpectedly became pregnant! My baby is now two… miracles do happen! 😊

I had a surprise pregnancy after 10 years of not using protection, and 2 IVF babies in between.

It was a massive, massive shock and took a long time to get my head around. Although it was happy news I was absolutely floored by it and combined with hormones, lockdown, etc, I found my emotional state to be very fragile during pregnancy and shortly afterwards.

My baby is an absolute delight and I love her to bits, but it was a rough ride.

We had early scans with all our pregnancies and they were incredible - if you can get to 9-10 weeks they will look like a little snowman with head, bodies and limbs sticking out. Super cute!

Oh op what lovely news. Congratulations! My sil who is currently 24 weeks pregnant after a horrible experience was told by the nurse to be cautiously optimistic. I thought that was a lovely way too look at it! Only disappointment I have is coming across this thread before 6pm I can’t wait to hear how your DH takes it! A colleague had her child at 46. They have a fantastic life and he’s just passed his 11+ with flying colours and off to a fantastic school.

My sonography today said he has scanned someone with a pregnancy at 54! He was trying to reassure me I wasn't the oldest pregnant person ever!

That's so funny you said that because I've researched and some say older mums and strong line can be indictive of twins too! My mum said same. That would be an even bigger blessing - right now just staying positive and thanking everyone for all the positive vibes!

Just goes to show weird stuff happens all the time!

Congratulations. As someone with fertility issues & have made my peace with it, I still love hearing about these miracles. It's very uplifting.

My daughter in law left the positive pregnant test in the bathroom for my son to find. He pretended he didn't notice it was positive and went into the kitchen and told her to not leave a mess in the bathroom. They joke about a lot. He was over the moon! Baby due in 4 weeks.
