So I will be 18 weeks pregnant with our first on Monday! Midwife has told me that I should start to feel flutters soon (I'm not too concerned if I don't yet as I know that it could be another few weeks)

But could someone please tell me what kind of feelings I should expect and what to feel for when the time comes? What was your experience? 🥰❤️ Thank you in advance!

I remember the first time I felt DS, I was sitting at a PC at work concentrating on a report and I had tiny, gentle little flutters low down in my belly. It was faint but there was no doubt it was him. I had an anterior placenta though and that can mask some movements.

Like small bubbles popping

lemonyfox · 19/08/2022 19:02

Congrats also!!

Congratulations OP! I first felt my son while I was relaxing in a bath. It sounds creepy but wasn't - felt like a very gentle scratching or rubbing sensation.

This is my first pregnancy so for the first couple of weeks I wasn't really sure if what I was feeling was baby moving. I now know it was as they progressed and got stronger, but those early ones felt like tiny little light finger taps. As they got stronger they began to feel like light flicks until they became full on noticeable kicks.

HippeePrincess · 19/08/2022 19:11

I’ve had like bubbles popping really early on, never had “flutters”, but have had what feels like a ball rolling round inside my belly from 14 weeks (16 with my first)

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 19/08/2022 19:15

Like lemonade in your veins

Margo34 · 19/08/2022 20:37

Like gently popping corn!

Bella9992 · 19/08/2022 21:46

I've had flutters first with both of mine, then it changes to feeling like gentle poking. Like a PP, generally felt when sat at my desk!

stayinghometoday · 19/08/2022 22:13

Like wind moving around. Later on (at 20 weeks) I felt tapping from the inside. It was so nice to feel, like a little hello.

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 19/08/2022 22:19

Felt like a bubble rolling up my insides!

Mossstitch · 19/08/2022 22:21

Like a gentle bubble rising in a bottle of fizzy drink.

elQuintoConyo · 19/08/2022 22:24

Like Heathcliff's Cathy tapping at the window to get in 😆

It started as butterflies, then popping, then tapping - ended up with knees, elbows and heels poking out at all angles, and bouncing on my pelvic floor fanny daggers' as they're often referred to.

Mamitobe2023 · 19/08/2022 22:30

Wow so many different descriptions 😍 thank you all so much.

For the last week I've been having a gentle tickling feeling in my lower tummy. It's brief and lasts for like a second and then it's gone. Not sure if that could be movement or not??

Have you ever held a tiny frog in your cupped hands and had it jump against your hands trying to escape?

It feels like that!

Blossomandbee · 19/08/2022 22:38

Mine was like if you imagine holding a butterfly in your cupped hands. Short bursts of flutters.
Then it progressed to faint 'pops' that eventually turn into kicks

TokenGinger · 19/08/2022 22:45

I had an anterior placenta so I didn't feel any of those early movements. The first movement I felt was at 24 weeks which was a swift kick against my steering wheel when my tummy was pushed up against it.

They didn't discover my anterior placenta until my 20 week scan. I had been worried at first I wasn't feeling movements as early as everybody else, but that discovery explained why.

Bella9992 · 20/08/2022 20:48

@Mamitobe2023 it sounds like it, that's what mine started like both times and I kept wondering what it was, then it go more noticeable over time.

RichardOsmansXraySpecs · 20/08/2022 20:52

Mine was like if you imagine holding a butterfly in your cupped hands. Short bursts of flutters.

Exactly like this ^

Greentomatoes21 · 20/08/2022 20:55

Mine was like one gentle tap, like a little pop. Sounds like what you had was the real deal 😄

Watto1 · 20/08/2022 20:59

You know how sometimes you notice what feels like food/air moving around just before you fart? (Hopefully it’s not just me!). It’s like that but without the fart!

SpaceJamtart · 20/08/2022 21:06

Mine felt like if you hold a goldfish in the plastic bag that you buy them in, and they sort of 'flutter' at the edges

EllieRosesMammy · 20/08/2022 21:07

Like someone is tickling your tummy from the inside 😂 I've never had the "flutters" I'd describe it more as being very lightly tickled

CornishTiger · 20/08/2022 21:11

Tickling and popping.

Mamitobe2023 · 22/08/2022 11:58

Thank you again for all of the replies everyone 🙂❤️

The last few days I'm definitely feeling baby! 18 weeks today! 😃💞
