@Wisher88 I think @Margo34 summed it up perfectly as that's exactly how I feel on the many points she described. I know after I have one scan I'll want to keep checking and it will just add to the anxiety. But at same time I know there are pros to having it done early. When I had my DS during covid time, I only had a private scan done around 24 weeks as DH wasn't allowed in for my anomaly scan and he was absolutely gutted. So I gifted the private scan as a birthday gift. I did definitely contemplate getting an early scan after reading everyone's responses today but I think I'll wait until 12w :)

KilledAnotherPlant · 20/08/2022 00:32

Congrats @Ginmonkey84 thats great news! Worth the drive!

So sorry @ANiceBigCupOfTea that’s what happened to me last time and so many people said give yourself a month and get back on it and it will happen again, I was tired of hearing it lol but it’s absolutely true. Look after yourself for the next bit & give yourself some time. And then hopefully back to bfps and joining another mn cohort x x

@Skylark1990we love Margot too! Just hope no one I know uses it in the meantime 😂

@1stimer16 that’s actually the one that we didn’t have a great experience at. Was all a bit hectic and then the water not working, but also probably heightened because neither scans had a good outcome. It is the best priced around though!

AliceinSlumberland · 20/08/2022 06:21

I went to bed at 9pm last night and had an absolutely brilliant sleep, just wanted to share that information after moaning about not being able to sleep tbe last few days 😂

xttcbabyno1x · 20/08/2022 06:27

Morning ladies! I can finally stop testing 😂

3 weeks today since I ovulated, I'm 5+5 today and got my clear blue 3+! Xxx

@AliceinSlumberland me too! slept much better last night but still woke at 1am and then 5am to wee 😂 xxx

Morning ladies (and gents?!),

RE private early scans, I'm really undecided. We had an early scan with DS then another to find out the gender at 15/16 weeks. I found that, for me personally, I loved seeing bub but as soon as the scan was over, I was right back to worrying and it didn't actually reassure me for long.

Saying that, I've had a bit of a wobble this morning and am left wondering if the pregancy is progressing as it should. I took another FRER this morning (14DPO) but if doesn't seem to have got much darker than 10DPO when I put the tests side by side. I'm not sure if I'm other thinking it?! I'll include strip tests I took from the same days, too.

Would anyone mind taking a look and giving me their honest opinion as to if I should be worrying?

@xttcbabyno1x Congrats on the 3+! 😍

@B1993 thank you!! And goood morning!! I wouldn't worry I think that's great progression honestly 😘 it's hard not to worry I know, I am too xxx

B1993 · 20/08/2022 07:30

Thanks @xttcbabyno1x!

It seems to have got darker now so the progression seems more obvious... I don't know if that counts, but it's making me feel better so I'm taking it as a win! 😍

Wisher88 · 20/08/2022 08:02

@B1993 I can definitely see a big difference between the two! Even if it's not super dark. I think from now you'll see a difference every 3 days but if it's making you worry you could leave it a week and see??

Wisher88 · 20/08/2022 08:18

@Margo34 oh yeah I can definitely see how if you have an early scan you'd get more attached. I guess my rationale would be if you have a heartbeat at 7 weeks it's far more likely to be a healthy pregnancy, whereas lots of women find out at 12 wk scan that it's a missed miscarriage and often it's from a few weeks before so they could have known sooner. £100 is a lot of money! Ours are a little cheaper here, less than £80, and I'd see it as we'd probably spend that on alcohol between us over the course of a couple of months usually. For example I would typically go on a boozy brunch once a month with my best friends and they're probably £40! Thankfully not going on one in September, but 1st of October so I'll have to start making my excuses now for not drinking 😂. I'll be just over ten weeks then and they'll be suspicious if I'm not drinking, so hoping to have a scan before that so I can tell them! My last pregnancy was a very early MC and I'd only told DH I was pregnant, but ended up telling those close friends when I had the MC because I needed the extra support (and some have had MCs themselves).

AliceinSlumberland · 20/08/2022 09:03

Wow I feel like my early scan is a bargain now seeing these prices, ours is only £50!

38startingagain · 20/08/2022 09:59

I’ve had an awful week , a bite probably from a mosquito got badly infected and turned into cellulitis I was trying to avoid taking anything because there’s no evidence to what is safe or not but I’ve ended up having to have all sorts and now in a complete panic I’ve done harm to the baby. Ended up in hospital weds evening and needed a X-ray on my knee to check the infection hadn’t spread to the bone , they assured me the dose was so low but google has scared the life out of me , also they’ve had to double my dose of erythromycin because it wasn’t clearing up and put me on 500 mg of fucidin as well . All my concerns were falling on death ears basically because the doctors were saying I’m number 1 and if it turns to sepsis I could die but I feel like I’ve had no support or reassurance about the baby and I’m just a worried mess now Googling all sorts , has anyone else ever had to have an X-ray during early pregnancy ? Btw the antibiotics I need are because I’m allergic to anything penicillin which is the usual given drug for infections.

simplythequest · 20/08/2022 11:33

@38startingagain you poor thing, that sounds utterly dreadful!!

I haven't any experience of any of these things, so I can't tell you anything specific, but I would say that you should stop googling. Concentrate on getting better and resting - good for the baby as well as you!

Also, when my mum had my oldest sisters, they used to actually use x-rays on pregnant women as a matter of course - no ultrasounds, apparently. No ill effects have been noticed in my sisters at all, and if your x-rays weren't directed at your abdomen then you should be fine.

Wouldloveanother · 20/08/2022 11:41

38 I really feel for you, I worry a lot too and it all makes you feel so guilty/scared.

i would have a look or contact the drug company for the ‘official’ guidance on pregnant women and just listen to that - Google will tell you ANYTHING is harmful to a growing baby if you search long enough. Over the last week I’ve got myself into a panic about the amount of folic acid I’m taking, fake tan I’ve been using, whether stress is harmful as ive been very stressed, panicking as I accidentally splashed myself with bleach… I could go on. When you consider how many chemicals or interferences we encounter on a daily basis, it’s basically endless! And the vast majority of babies are perfectly fine. I’m also on a low dose of sertraline and have been worrying about that.

I would focus on looking after yourself in the here and now - it’s really all we can do. I tell myself I don’t smoke, don’t drink, I eat reasonably well and I’ve been taking my prenatal vitamins etc. Unless I am exposed to something like a nuclear fall out I am going to try really hard not to worry from now on because the only people it damages is us!

GlobetrottingPercy · 20/08/2022 11:41

I don’t have any experience with that unfortunately but didn’t want to just ignore your question, hopefully someone will be along soon who can help you. Sounds awful for you and I know it is easier said that done but also echo stepping away from Google, my GP told me that in my last pregnancy and said it makes you feel even more anxious than before. Could you ring your GP back or the community midwives to ask some specific questions?

@Skylark1990 @Wouldloveanother @AliceinSlumberland your posts are making me laugh, I can’t stay away from the sweets and fizzy drinks either! I’ve was desperate for one all morning and finally caved in at 11am because I felt it was more acceptable but I’ve had to go out and get some caffeine free Pepsi max. It’s quite nice actually, would recommend! With DS I couldn’t stomach fizzy drinks and chocolate and this time I can’t get enough of it, good job I didn’t bother packing the maternity jeans away as I’ll be in them before too long if this keeps up. God help my blood sugar levels at the booking in appointment!

Re: early scans

I was offered early scans at EPU this time round due to recurrent miscarriage. I was really surprised when they recommended 6 weeks as I would have gone for 7 weeks if private.

Its absolutely true that it doesn’t ease anxiety for long. The next day I was anxious again and convinced the heart had stopped since the scan!

For me, even if the outcome is ultimately bad I like to know how far I got and to see my baby on a screen with a heart beat. I had the horrible situation last time where I saw a heartbeat at 7 weeks and it was gone at 9. I don’t regret the earlier scan though as I’m happy it got to the heartbeat stage and I got to see it. Equally im
happy I found out again at 9 weeks it was over instead of waiting til 12!

It’s a really individual thing. I think you always have to think how you would feel in worst case scenario. Ultimately a scan isn’t going to change the final outcome and only fleetingly helps with the anxiety for most!

PuddingBear · 20/08/2022 13:49

Hello! Just got a positive test saying 2-3 weeks, putting me at about 4 weeks pregnant and due around the 22nd April.

At least, I think… I’m not so good at tracking my period or cycles or anything like that 😅

This will be our second baby 😊 Been feeling quite sick and very hot lately.

Congratulations all!

Catkinder · 20/08/2022 15:57

Has anybody else got fluctuating symptoms?

I had nausea for about 2 days but I think it was late night and the heat. Since then I've just felt really tired, tiny bit of cramping and gone off sweet things (but now I'm wondering if that was in my head)

I had a scan on Thurs at 6 wks, I thought I was a bit farther along but I was happy to see a heartbeat, but bit frustrated as I was looking forward to 8 weeks for some reason.

B1993 · 20/08/2022 16:16

@Wisher88 Thanks for replying 😊 I told myself I wouldn't test again after today. With my first, I tested on 14DPO and that was it! I don't know how I did it - I've become quite a POAS addict! 😬

@38startingagain Its do easy to get sucked into 'Dr Google' but in truth, it doesn't do us any good, does it?!

@PuddingBear Welcome! 😊 I used the NHS due date calculator but you do need to know the day of your last period. If you don't have exact dates, they'll figure it out at the dating scan, I'm sure.

Longbin · 20/08/2022 17:10

@Catkinder mine seem to change quite a bit. I feel much less sick in the last few days but my tiredness I still there. I can barely stay awake. I have had stages when I can't eat for days, and then my appetite returns

Wisher88 · 20/08/2022 17:55

How long is everyone waiting before self-referring to their midwifery team?
I did it as soon as I found out last time but then was horrible when they called me a month later and I had to tell them I was no longer pregnant. I want to wait long enough that it feels I'm in a safer zone. Think I might wait until 6 weeks.

ncbn1 · 20/08/2022 18:06

@Wisher88 I found out at 3 and a half weeks and waited til 5 and a half before I phoned the doctors. They just booked my booking in appointment for when I will be 9 weeks.

OP posts:
Longbin · 20/08/2022 18:16

I self referred at 4 weeks as I wanted it to be recorded as a miscarriage if I had one. I phoned them at 6 1/2 weeks as I still hadnt heard, and they booked me in for 8 weeks

OttilieKnackered · 20/08/2022 18:41

Nausea is starting to really come for me now at 6+1. Sadly Pepsi raspberry seems to be the thing that helps me manage it atm. And bread-based savoury foods.

I can’t wait for the stage where I can eat like a normal person again.

Squareroundabout · 20/08/2022 18:58

@B1993 Thanks, this is really calming to read! I had several days of nausea and achey boobs that then diminished to nothing. I was so worried (esp as the on and off cramping I'd had came back, plus potentially very slight spotting) that I booked a same day early scan. Thought it was textbook loss of symptoms, early mc. Went in crying assuming it would be bad news, only to be told there was a hearbeart and it looked fine. I swore a lot out of shock....

I know it doesn't mean I'm out of the woods, but to know that I could be symptomless and fine, and to know that others are symptomsless too and to read your very thoughtful post, is such a huge help.

Marshmallowmountain · 20/08/2022 19:29

I just self referred today at 4w4d for the same reason as @Longbin
