Hi, I am all new to this and my dilemma is i am 6 days overdue and really hoping things will start happening soon...I've had a bit of leaking since yesterday morning 4am and my belly seems to harden up for 30 minutes at a time - is this BH as it's painless? How can I tell whether these are contractions? I'm confused cos they last so long...

Same happened last night, belly hard for hours, then fell asleep at 5am and nothing since all day. Started again about an hour ago, though...

hmm it sounds to me like v early stages - just sleep if you can, go for a walk in the morning, it'll happen when it's ready! i think you'll know when it's proper contractions. good luck.

Eat something spicy do some light housework, like previous post go for a walk in the morning. Have you had a show yet, is there any sign of backache i had that terrible when i was in labour. I was 11 days overdue with my first so it could be while yet..hang on in there..good luck

gibberish · 20/01/2008 00:54

ooh does sound like things are happening. But may still be a day or two yet. Exciting though

If your leaking what you think may be your waters you just need to inform your local maternity unit.

shabster · 20/01/2008 01:11

i was 20 days late with my 4th son, and 41!! He was warm and happy in there! Be calm, enjoy your last minutes on freedom! Good luck and very best wishes

gibberish · 20/01/2008 01:14

Are you ok sarah?

Perhaps you have gone to bed until things kick off. Good idea.

BITCAT · 20/01/2008 01:17

sorry didn't read thread properly, if you are leaking and have been since yesterday morning, then i think you need to be checked out, they don't generally leave people for more than 24hrs if waters gone. do you know what colour you leaking is, is it clear!! At least you would know 1 way or the other if you got checked out, they can only send you home if not they won't tell you off, now please go and ring your local maternity unit, and get some advice from them..

sarahmsqt · 20/01/2008 01:18

Thanks for all that, am okay, tried to research some stuff via google... Cleaned the kitchen last night, scrubbing floors etc, similar thing then, am apprehensive about going to lie down, would much rather encourage things by moving

Yes, as bitcat says, ring the hosp or unit if you haven't already.

BITCAT · 20/01/2008 01:20

don't over do things though hun, your going to need some energy

gibberish · 20/01/2008 01:21

Bitcat keeps getting there first If you have phoned, try to get some rest. Sleep if you can, honestly.

sarahmsqt · 20/01/2008 01:21

Okay, will do, water was clear and sweet smelling! Happened after i was sick at 4am last night, had been for a wee, too, so NOT urine...have been to hospital twice already before as I thought waters were leaking but was told on both occassions they weren't and sent home again - feel a bit foolish to do that again!

OP posts:
sarahmsqt · 20/01/2008 01:22

Ok, will go and ring them now...

OP posts:
gibberish · 20/01/2008 01:22

Goodness don't feel foolish. Is hard to tell - even after you have had four Let us know what they say!

BITCAT · 20/01/2008 01:28

Sounds normal, it does sound like something may be happening, your not foolish at all always best to check, i had the midwifes out to me 4/5 times with my last baby, and she was my 4th. Hope it goes ok and take care hun

sarahmsqt · 20/01/2008 01:28

Just rang the birth centre, they reckon that it's the position of the baby that makes the uterus hard for so long (been over 1 hour now!) told me to go to sleep and ring them in morning or when it's painful...maybe it's going to be painless?
