27 weeks and acid reflux is killing me

Anyone else ? I’ve actually had an endoscopy in past and this morning woke to the same sensation in chest throat and stomach . So painful couldn’t get comfortable and pain was so much worse breathing in or lying down . Anyone else had anything similar . Finally gave in and took the omeprazole the doctor prescribed weeks ago ? Just wondering if anyone else has had similar I was actually worried it was my heart but the fact when sitting up I kept burping throughout day and also the fact was worse on bending and lying down and taking deep breaths made me relax a little . The pain is so sharp ! I’ve just got over a vomiting bug so I think a few days of not eating and only taking meds has aggravated it to this extent !

Omeprazole is the only thing that worked for me.
GP prescribed it and I was able to stop drinking bottles of gaviscon.
You can get it over the counter too but easier to have it prescribed.
Good luck x

@OgdensGoneNutFlake I’ve just started taking it today ! Did you have similar symptoms honestly when I lay down or bend it’s like being winded by a football ! Hopefully this kicks in soon ! How long does it take to help ? X

I had a herbal tea on a morning that really helped. I’ll have a look for it now as it was really good and helped me loads with acid reflux.

Lkakpk · 03/08/2022 23:18

@Italianmamami Thankyou that would be really helpful ! It’s so uncomfortable x

This was a godsend for my acid reflux. My dad also suffers with it and told me about this as he only drinks this

The omeprazole takes a while to work. Then it is amazing.Try gaviscon. Love heart sweets are good too.

OgdensGoneNutFlake · 03/08/2022 23:24

From memory it took a couple of days, but once it kicked in it relieved it 100%.
And yes honestly I couldn't remember feeling iller- it was like being winded!

Mummatobefeb2022 · 03/08/2022 23:36

Omeprazole was the only thing that helped for me too, was an absolute godsend. My doctors would only perscribe a month at a time so make sure if yours is the same, that you leave plenty of time to order as you'll really notice when you stop taking (it was instant for me!). On the upside, the heartburn literally stopped the moment I gave birth.

Best wishes for the rest of your pregnancy.

Hi, I had crippling reflux throughout first trimester. I couldn't walk anywhere without onset of massive chest pain... it was horrible and I am sure my manager thought I was making it up.

Omeprazole was what helped, it takes a while to work so do take as prescribed. Gaviscon, peppermint tea etc did nothing for me.

Personally I found that fatty foods definitely made it worse, so cut out anything too heavy, and eating in the evening more than 3 hours before bed made it worse. I was hardly drinking tea or coffee anyway but coffee made it worse.

It settled a bit in second trimester then returned in third!

O my silver lining is that I certainly haven't put on lots of weight in pregnancy!!!

Lkakpk · 04/08/2022 13:49

@LaddieCthulu it’s awful isn’t it ! Did you have that god awful winded feeling ? It’s like the sharpest most uncomfortable feeling ever . Was so bad yesterday was hard to pinpoint where it was even coming from as pain was in my back too awful ! Settled a bit today thankfully but still there !

LaddieCthulu · 04/08/2022 14:14

That's it! The winded feeling. I found it hard to describe, as it was almost like I couldn't breathe, this incredible, searing pressure between my chest and my back.

CurbsideProphet · 04/08/2022 14:30

I'm 29 weeks and have had heartburn / reflux since 7 weeks. I can barely remember not having it tbh. I slept sitting up on pillows until 22 weeks as lying down made me vomit acid in the mornings even after I had shaken off my sickness at 18 weeks😭

2 Omeprazole per day on their own aren't quite enough for me so I also have gaviscon. I try to avoid food that is too rich or fatty. I prefer to eat early anyway but I do find eating my main meal by 6.30pm is better for me in the evening.

It's really tough so I hope you get some relief!

Tinadecember · 04/08/2022 14:34

I have gaviscon on prescription, I get 4 off litre bottles at a time haha! I was wary about taking omeprozole as I don't like the thought of taking any medications in pregnancy, just my personal opinion, I am weird like that!

Had heartburn terribly right the way through my pregnancy with my daughter and the same this time around. Pretty much 24/7 since around 12 weeks. I find that sleeping with my head propped up helps

20viona · 04/08/2022 15:58

Omeprazole is a game changer give it a few days you'll see.

Lkakpk · 04/08/2022 16:07

@LaddieCthulu I honestly thought it might be my heart but then I started burping constantly so reassured me !
