Is it okay to wear a dress for scan?

I know this sounds mental but it’s supposed to be 40 degrees tomorrow and I can’t imagine wearing anything on my lower half. This is my second baby, I’ll be 13.5 weeks and already have a pretty obvious bump, so no shorts etc fit me to be able to put on underneath.

This isn’t going to be a problem is it? 😂 Surely they’ll give me something to cover my dignity!?

I'm sure they'll have some paper roll or something.

BiscoffSundae · 17/07/2022 19:09

I don’t get why you can’t wear shorts?

Sunflowers2047 · 17/07/2022 19:10

OP has said she doesn't have shorts that fit.

Because they don't fit her...you will be fine OP they will probably cover you with some paper towel

Anotherdayanotherdollar · 17/07/2022 19:10

They'll probably give you some paper roll, you could bring a small blanket in your bag though

DogsAndGin · 17/07/2022 19:11

You'll have your knickers on. And they’ll tuck some paper into the top of them. I wore a dress to my scan and it didn’t even occur to me to ‘save my dignity’. You’ll be getting far more than just your knickers out in a few months anyway 😅

BiscoffSundae · 17/07/2022 19:11

She said no shorts fit, surely a stretchy pair would, I would just pick up a cheap pair of stretchy shorts to wear under they are a couple of quid In primark

OhRiRi · 17/07/2022 19:12

Just wear pants underneath that give you good coverage. For a 12 (give or take) week scan they will be scanning just above your mons pubis anyway so even if you wore shorts, you'd have to undo them and shimmy them down a bit.

CharlieAndTooManyCharacters · 17/07/2022 19:15

I would imagine that the midwife sonographer has scanned many women in dresses.

L0ts · 17/07/2022 19:22

@BiscoffSundae

Because it’s 7:30 on a Sunday evening and my scan is at 9am tomorrow morning? 😅

I meant that no shorts I have fit. I have stretchy cycling shorts but because I’ve suddenly developed a bit of a bump in the last week they now don’t fit me and honestly feel super uncomfortable.

Thank you everybody! I’m sure they’re expecting women to be in dresses tomorrow, I’ll wear some big underwear 😅

I was in this exact position today and they just tucked the really wide paper roll into my knickers - you won’t even think about it. Usually the lights are low too! Enjoy!

L0ts · 17/07/2022 19:26

@Ubbee Ahhh thank you so much for the reassurance! I’m honestly not too worried about the ‘dignity’ part of it, I mostly don’t want to make anybody else feel awkward 😂

I’ve got mine on Tuesday, nothing on earth could induce me to wear a waistband in this heat so I’ll be right there with you in a dress OP!

Mally100 · 17/07/2022 19:31

I used the maternity tights under a dress so when I lifted it, I didn't feel so exposed sitting in my underwear. I mean the knee length tights.

Flederjo · 17/07/2022 19:32

It wouldn't occur to me to not wear something comfortable....they don't care! 😜
Depending on the images with the abdominal scanner, they might have to do a vaginal/internal scan anyway.

No2incoming · 17/07/2022 19:33

I had a scan Friday and wore a dress, just tucked the paper roll into my pants and all was fine Grin

HarryTheLass · 17/07/2022 19:34

You won’t! After all, some of the scans they do will be transvaginal so you in your pants really won’t bother them at all 😁

Trinxsy · 17/07/2022 19:34

I only wear dresses in pregnancy. They've always given some paper towel to use as a makeshift blanket. Just whack your big knickers on!

CharlieAndTooManyCharacters · 17/07/2022 19:38

You’re in the maternity unit. No one is going to feel awkward about you wearing a dress!

SarahAndQuack · 17/07/2022 19:45

It'll be totally fine. I never wear anything except dresses and have had various scans, smear tests, etc. in a dress - it always feels totally practical as you just whip it up and you're ready to go, and medics won't care in the slightest.

Okeydoky · 17/07/2022 20:07

I don't do trousers so wore a dress to every scan. Didn't even occur to me that was a problem tbh. Noone batted an eyelid. It's only a pair of legs and some knickers.

Plus they quite often have to do transvaginal scans so they're used to seeing it all.

EV117 · 17/07/2022 20:14

I would imagine that the sonographers are also trained to do transvaginal scans - I doubt they’ll bat an eyelid at you in your pants.

easyday · 17/07/2022 20:17

If you think having a scan in a dress is going to make anyone feel awkward, well hey just wait til you get to the birthing stage! There will be an impressive amount of people looking at the business end - they've seen it all.

HelloViroids · 17/07/2022 20:20

my son has just had his second birthday so I was pregnant at the same time of year (and had scans right up to the end due to complications) - I wore a dress and huge knickers to all of them!
